Dozens of Iraqi teenagers stoned to death for ‘emo’ haircuts: activists

Iraqi activists sounded the bell over the killing of dozens of teenagers by religious police for having “emo” haircuts.

Activists told the Cairo-based al-Akhbar daily that at least 90 Iraqi teenagers with “emo” appearances have been stoned to death by the Moral Police in the country in the past month. The violent crackdown against “emo” Iraqi teenagers came after the Iraqi interior ministry declared them as “devil worshippers.”

“The ‘Emo phenomenon’ or devil worshiping is being probed by the Moral Police who have the approval to eliminate it as soon as possible since it’s detrimentally affecting the society and becoming a danger,” a statement by the Interior Ministry said.

“They wear strange, tight clothes that have pictures on them such as skulls and use stationery that are shaped as skulls. They also wear rings on their noses and tongues, and do other strange activities,” the statement added.

The statement said that Iraq’s Moral Police was granted approval by the Ministry of Education to enter Baghdad schools and pinpoint students with Western appearances.

The activists told the newspaper that a group of armed men dressed in civilian clothing led the teenagers to secluded areas a few days ago, stoned them to death, and then disposed their bodies in garbage dumpsters across the capital, Baghdad.

“First they throw concrete blocks at the boy’s arms, then at his legs, then the final blow is to his head, and if he is not dead by then, they start all over again,” one person who managed to escape told the daily. The exact death toll remains unclear, but Hana al-Bayaty of Brussels Tribunal, an NGO dealing with Iraqi issues, said the current figure ranges “between 90 and 100.”

Activists said that leaflets were distributed in Baghdad warning teenagers from donning the “emo” style, and in some regions, teenage homosexuals were killed by battering their heads also by concrete blocks.

Maybe all emos claim atheism (although I hate to make broad brush statements about something like “all participants in emo”) but not all atheists claim emos.

Christianity does matter due to its gospel claims. If somebody’s house is on fire, are you going to say someone with a truck and a hose is not relevant?

lj happens to be Hindu AFAIK, ma’am.

It’s like the late C. S. Lewis pointed out: the majority of humanity does believe in either a God or gods. Determined atheism is a very minority view.

Muslims slaughtered Emos like cattle.

I pointed out that many/most (not all) Emos are anti-religion/atheist.

Christianity played no part in either.

What the Bible teaches in regards to anything Emos do has no direct relevance to any of the above. Indirectly one could put forth that it does in fact teach against crime, self abuse, homosexuality and other earmarks of Emo culture and they would in fact be totally correct.

But that does not apply in our thread discussion on the topic. Now just to clarify... I ‘personally’ believe in God pretty much as Catholicism teaches, though I do not consider myself a Catholic. I don’t do mass and meet the other requirements. That said, If Emos or anyone else chooses anti-religious or atheistic behavior, that’s between them and whoever they don’t believe in.

Nowhere did I insert my choice of belief in my stated opinions as the one they ‘should’ follow. I might think it, but I do not need nor did I, fall back on my religious beliefs to demonstrate the destructive behavior that anti-religious or atheistic choices help foster in the Emo world.

So, in sum, If I didn’t bring Christianity into this, the muslim POS killers didn’t bring Christianity into this, and the now dead Emo kids didn’t bring Christianity into this, nor is it of any relevance to this conversation, can you explain to me why the Gospel, Bible as a whole, Christians, or Christianity have a place in the discussion?

Anti-religious/Atheist can mean not believing in Izanami and hating Vishnu just as easily as it can mean disbelieving in Jesus Christ and hating God. So again, what’s the point?

Being in trouble and not sold on Islam, they are a logical target for a Christian outreach. In spite of caricatures you may have thought in terms of in the past, not too many Christians succeed in “winning souls” by bullying. But they do by preaching of a divine Savior who has embraced the wrongs and woes of the world with the purpose of doing away with them.

Is Iron Maiden relavant to the discussion because the lyrics of Number of the Beast quotes Revelations? Why should a religion that Emos do not believe in or the teachings thereof matter if Iron Maiden does not?

So what if the Bible says anything at all? In this case NONE of it is relevant no matter what it says. Muslims did not rely on Levitican punishments to kill Emo kids. They quoted the Koran. Wmos didn’t rely on prayer as nowhere in the article or anywhere else does it say they were Christian.

In the case of this event The bible is of no more concern that Dr.Suess’ Lorax, Hop on Pop or One Fish Two Fish.

But Anti-religious/Atheism IS relevant as the Emos ARE atheistic/anti-religious. I do not know how much more proof you need to understand this.

But again, this is not relavant. True perhaps, but NOT relavant.

I’m sorry you are completely oblivious to a plan God set forth on earth. When the Christian God said whosoever, he said whosoever. Not just those who happened to be members of churches before they heard.

We are not discussing Christian theology.

I give up. You win. I dunno what, but you win. Have the last word.
