Fresh off his convincing Super Tuesday win in his home state of Georgia, presidential candidate Newt Gingrich might be about to score another comeback, with two new polls out Friday showing the former House speaker with slight leads in both Alabama and Mississippi.
A Rasmussen Reports poll of 750 likely Republican primary voters shows Gingrich ahead with 30 percent support, followed closely by Rick Santorum at 29 percent, and Mitt Romney with 28 percent.
Ron Paul got just 7 percent, while 6 percent were undecided.
In Mississippi, a poll by American Research Group Inc. finds Gingrich in the lead with 35 percent. Romney is in second place with 31 percent, while Santorum has 20 percent and Paul has 7 percent....

I’m for Santorum, but the most important priorty of all (aside from defeating Obama) is preventing Mittens Romney from being the nominee. I’m for Santorun, but if Gingrich can help by winning these primaries, than I wish him well.

People are beginning to realize the true depth of Rick’s rhetoric in relation to the complexity of the Nation’s woes.
I give Santorum credit for identifying the moral longing that spans this great Country. But other than quenching the demand, I’m not sure he brings much else to the table as far as intrinsic Liberty is concerned.
Yes, once Newt wins a 3rd state out of 24, he will be unstoppable.

Last couple days or so it looks like.
I live in central Alabama (in the same town as AlasBabylon! but we’ve never met) and work for a large industry near me.
I did a small poll the last couple of days at work and the results are:
12 definitely voting Newt
1 definitely voting Rick
1 wavering between Newt/Rick
0 voting Romney
0 voting Paul
and 2 of the definite Newts are Union guys at work...
That’s MY poll...lol
Anyway, the first two polls out of bama I wouldn’t put much stock into given who did the polling. The Rasmussen one carries a little more weight with me.
I’m pretty sure Newt will take Alabama. “IF” for some reason Romney won here, I would be extremely shocked...

He gave a very good address to a receptive crowd yesterday in Jackson. Had me cheering and clapping, and I am usually as demonstrative as an alligator. I liked the cross section too. 50/50 men and women, even spectrum of ages from teens to seventies, and I would guess by attire a broad range of income levels, from quite modest to moderately wealthy. While the majority were white, there was somewhere between 5 and 10% ethnic minorities, including some Choctaws, Indians and perhaps some Latins. It was a good group.
I also saw some Santorum supporters out today, looked like a couple of big families, and the kind of people you would want to have as friends and neighbors.
Doubtless there are active Romney supporters out there too, but they seem to be keeping to their whitened sepulchers, at least during the day.

Yes, he calls himself the ultimate insider, I assume he knows how to play the game, but this really isn’t a game.
We need someone who is a bit more mentally stable than Ross Perot and doesn’t fly off the handle talking about moon bases and putting children on the federal payroll. There are issues that are more down to earth and immediate to the average person. People who need a job do not relate to moonbases and other federal boondoggles.
Now, if he called for replacing the entire welfare bureaucracy with a single streamlined agency, that instead of social engineering and Orwellian control of the people -gobbling up 75% of welfare budgets - we will simply give the poor cash and send them on their way, if they can’t figure out that rent and food comes first, then that is their problem. We could double the benefits with half the budget.
If he did that, he would literally be able to walk into the White House.
He won’t. He still thinks welfare was fixed with “welfare reform”. Romney won’t, he doesn’t think about the poor at all I think.
The GOP could stomp the “party of the poor”. Imagine he spin from the MSM when the GOP promises to “double welfare benefits and all in cash”.
Democrats aren’t and never were interested in helping the poor, they would apoplectic about such a proposal and condemn it as harmful to the poor. lol. “What will they ever do without us leftists to hold their hands and control their lives??”
I can’t wait to vote for Newt on Tuesday and to make it better I get to vote for Roy Moore also. He is running for his old office on the Supreme Court again.

I know that FR is for Newt and against Mitt. I don’t understand, however, that Freepers ignore the fact that Mitt is polling #2 in deep South. Even when he’s #3, perhaps the number is not statistically different from the #2. As an anti Romney entity, shouldn’t this cause concern among Freepers, particularly since in those states, the allocations are proportional, not winner takes all?
Also ask around your church, family, town and whatever hobby you have, if you would. I’m sure many would be interested in your feedback...

Totally disagree, but if that’s the case, then so be it. The country will get what it deserves. (If Romney wins the WH, it will be just the same as zero’s second term anyway... and we’ll deserve it then, too.)

Neither Alabama nor Mississippi are WTA states.
Delegetes are to be allocated proportionally to presidential contenders based on the primary results in each of the state’s congressional districts.
In addition, delegates are to be allocated to presidential contenders based on the primary vote statewide.
Newt has an outstanding chance to pick up many more delegates.
I know what the numbers are but still am questioning whether either or both states are winner take all, this does make a huge difference.

Re.: Mitt polling #2 in the deep South.
Anecdotal, but I’m in northern Alabama. No one I spoke to supports Romney. They never have, and this goes all the way back to early last fall when we all were hoping Sarah would jump in.
So I have no idea where these polling numbers are coming from.
While very good on business decisions, Mitt is another establishment type who seemingly has no realization that the Obama regime is daily doing away with our freedoms--Mitt's comment that Obama is ok, but just over his head gives someindication.
Barbara Bush best explained Mitt's standing with the old establishment types, when on The Five this week, she gushed about how wonderful Mitt and Ann are, how they have visited with them, etc. Then, she went on to answer a question about Bill Clinton to say what a wonderful person he is and what a good friend. A few months ago, she made a very hurtful statement about Sarah Palin.
In other words, these people all went to the same schools, are friendly, are members of the good old establishment club, have money (even the Clintons, now) went to the "right" schools, etc. Anyone who went to a state school, who does not have entre into the club is OUT; anyone who is a member is IN.
These people truly have no inkling of the destruction of our sovereignty or our loss of freedom. They cannot conceive of losing our freedoms.
To me, Mitt is ALL too willing to "work" with the Dems. Once, you coud do that, but not any more. The Dems see compromise as their way only; they see citizens as pawns necessary to support their power and eliteism.
Santorum is a good man, and was a good senator, in spite of what Romney's ads say about his votes. He voted for some bills with some items he didn't like, just to pass the main part--like say a budget or military appropriation. The fault of these votes is the habit of attaching pet bills to a "must pass" bill. That needs to stop.
As for "getting it" about our freedoms, oil, etc. Newt is the smartest man in the room. He can be a bit prone to shooting from the hip, but he has a grasp of how things can be done, is a smart planner and strategist. I am voting for Newt in AL. I hope Santorum and Paul stay in, making Mitt spend his money and taking it to convention.

Only reason I think Mitt is polling well in the South. Is people want to say they voted for the winner.
If it like GA Mitt will only get the Population centers. I think that is not because people like him better there, But the fact that people are more concentrated and it is much eaiser to GOTV.

I can’t believe how FReepers don’t seem to be AT ALL concerned about the giant elephant in the room! Folks, Rasmussen released a poll of likely voters today showing ROMNEY with an EIGHT point lead in MISSISSIPPI, for Christ’s sake! Yet everyone seems to be jumping for joy over how well Gingrich and Santorum are doing in the less reputable ARG poll, all the while ignoring the fact that Romney is only a mere TWO points out of first place in that very same poll! This greatly concerns me because Romney should have NO BUSINESS being this competitive in the deep southern states. This pains me to say it, but if Romney wins any of these states next Tuesday, then it’s game, set, match... He will be the inevitable Republican nominee.

Everytime Santorum opens his mouth about religion, birth control, JFK, and the rest of his rantings he puts more votes in Romneys box. Someone better shut him up and the best way to do that is not vote for him. Gingrich will take care of Romney.
I want to see Romney in last place, not second, and definitely not first.
If a Yankee from Massachusetts is competitive in the Deep South, something is wrong. My guess is the answer is that Romney has poured tons of money into bashing his opponents so voters think they're not conservatives, which has the effect of driving down their support rather than necessarily building up his own.
I support Santorum but as long as Romney loses in the South, having Gingrich win is fine with me. What worries me is that if we keep bashing each other as Gingrich and Santorum supporters, we're just doing Romney's work for him for free.

Many of those “wins” were straw polls that awarded him no delegates ..... plus, presidential elections are state-by-state, not county-by-county, but thanks for playing! Jay, tell him what he’s won as a consolation prize!
