Sen. Lisa Murkowski says she saw it coming, even before the public scolding last weekend at Alaska's Iditarod dog sled race. Siding with Republican leaders on a contentious contraceptives vote was a mistake.
A moderate in an era of paralyzing partisanship, Murkowski, 54, may be a natural heir to the centrist role played by retiring Maine Sen. Olympia Snowe at a time when their party is hurting for female leaders.
Murkowski voted in favor of an amendment by Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., to overturn President Barack Obama's order that health insurance cover the cost of contraceptives even if providers object on religious grounds. She was backpedaling within days.
Before the weekend was out, Murkowski told the Anchorage Daily News that she regretted her vote.
"I knew going into it that there was conflict there," Murkowski said in a telephone interview this past week. When she got home to Alaska, she knew. "I think I made a mistake."

Just another RINO idiot....I lost interest in her version of reality a long time ago
Murkowski is a horribly conflicted person ~ probably not fit to pursue public office to say nothing of holding it. Her father was a corrupt politician, and she tolerated electoral mischief to send her back to Washington.
I despise this woman.
I wish she’d go over to her side and stop pretending to be a Republican. She’s a commie. It’s got to be the cold and snow that makes women like Murkowski and Snowe ice cold human beings with no respect for human life. Murkowski gives Republicans a bad name. It’s time for her to join her comrades on the left.
No, a majority of Alaska voters made a mistake.
a few people yell at her and she cowers...what a horrible way to go through life
Hollow as a Halloween jack’o’lantern.
No core principles nor core values. Just empty.
A worthy inheritor of The Corrupt Bastards Club, which her father and his associates used to run.
Sarah flushed them all out, and some went to jail, but the GOP Establishment has now succeeded in reviving their organization.
Evidently, one of her friends must have asked her, "Why did you vote against taxpayer funding for baby killing?" Then she slapped her forehead and replied, "Of course! What was I thinking! Kill them all, and make those snotty Christians pay for it!"
The RINOs made sure she got elected. When she was defeated in the primary by a Tea Party candidate the RINOs pulled all kinds of shenanigans to get her elected.
Another MSM-loving RINO. I wish that Daddy’s Little Girl had been defeated.
Probably pretty accurate. She is an idiot.
You got that right.
But remember it was the Democrats who elected her, She hasn’t forgotten that, That is whay she stated she made a mistake.
She needs to stop Playing Republican and join the Democrat party.
Maybe she wants to run for POTUS some day and since it is working for Romney....
Kinda says it all....doesn’t it ?
This is such a stupid issue. It sets women back 50 years. Women have always had and STILL have access to birth control. What a stupid, contrived, manufactured issue this is.
I’d like to wake up one morning to read that she had perpetrated massive vote fraud to get where she is. Because the alternative is that there are enough loons out there who actually believe that she is somehow good for the party, good for Alaska, or good for the country.
She took one for the team.
Big oil dictates everything here in Alaska. All politicians are beholding to them, dem & repub alike. Just look at all the Repubs Palin sent off to the big house and all the others she sent into political obscurity.
Many ALaskans hate Murkowski, but the only recourse seems to be not voting Republican. Maybe she'll get caught up in some corruption herself and resign, the only way we will get rid of her. Or maybe we should all start voting for another party.
Funny thing is most Alaskans like Don Young, no matter how crooked he is. He's not a RINO though.
