McCain to Romney critics: 'Lighten up!'
The Hill ^ | March 9, 2012 | Josh Fatzick

Posted on 03/11/2012 9:45:37 AM PDT by bkopto

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Friday defended GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney from critics who mocked him for calling himself an "unofficial Southerner" at a campaign stop the previous day.

"Now they’re attacking Romney for joking about learning to say “y’all”? According to the left, no one can have a sense of humor - lighten up!"

In Mississippi, Romney told the crowd that his bodyguard, a Mississippi native, was turning him into an "unofficial Southerner." "I'm learning to say 'y'all' and I like grits, and strange things are happening to me!" the former Massachusetts governor added.

Critics were quick to jump on Romney's comments as just a poor attempt to connect to Southern voters, something observers have said he has struggled to do so far in his campaign.

MSNBC morning show host Joe Scarborough, who was born in Georgia, suggested Friday morning that Romney's Southern impression wasn't fooling any true Southerner.

Alas, John McCain has been senile for a decade or more; perhaps it’s time for him to retire and work on his stamp collection?

Romney ISN’T a Southern nor will he be one, ever. Even those who have been adopted as southerners at least like the culture when they live down there, and aclimate to the area. I donn’t see Romney doing that.

He’s just a panderer.

Mccain is an old geezer, Hey McQuack: Shut up!

I was unhappily resigned to Mittens being the nominee, but McLame (chief Senate RINO) has been constantly shooting his mouth off and reminding of me what happens when we run someone who's "the most electable".

Mittens had better grow a set of core convictions quick or he'll limp to the nomination only to be tied up in knots and destroyed by the Husein slime machine. He needs to face Romney care head on and say "it was wrong, it backfired and we can't repeat the mistake in a federal level. If elected with a conservative congress I will rip 0bamacare out root and branch." Waivers can be a start but it needs to be killed. A waiver won't erase the new powers the fed has assumed for itself, those federal powers will just be hidden so to speak ready for a future administration to repeal the waiver and put 0bamacare back on track where it left off.

The more you talk, the more you will alienate voters from Romney.

Nobody on the left, or the right, is “attacking” Romney for having a sense of humor. It’s all because Romney doesn’t have one!

Romney ISN’T a Southern nor will he be one, ever. Even those who have been adopted as southerners at least like the culture when they live down there, and aclimate to the area.

When my job moved from northern Illinois to Charlotte, NC, one of the reasons I declined to move with it was because I didn't think that this CT born and raised Yankee would be able to truly assimilate to the southern mode. I am a Yankee; I didn't want to become a damn Yankee.

That said, even though I am not a southerner, and don't believe I could or even want to become one in my soul, I respect the essence of southern culture. There's a lot of things that the south got right that the north has gotten very wrong. I also regret that the states as a whole did not recognize the right to secession. A mechanism should have been formalized in the Constitution, a great document, but not a perfect one.

Mitt Romney has assimilated the worst of Yankee ways all too well.

Romney reminds me of Hillary campaigning in 2008, passing herself off as black in front of black audiences and Jewish in front of Jewish audiences. I’d respect a candidate more for just being authentic rather than trying to con people into believing he/she was “one of us”.

“Now they’re attacking Romney for joking about learning to say “y’all”?”

A bus load of politicians were driving down a country road when all of a sudden the bus ran off the road and crashed into a tree in an old farmer’s field. The old farmer after seeing what happened went over to investigate. He then proceeded to dig a hole and bury the politicians.

A few days later, the local sheriff came out, saw the crashed bus, and then asked the old farmer, “Were they all dead?”

The old farmer replied, “Well, some of them said they weren’t, but you know how them politicians lie.”

UP YOURS McCain!!!

You pathetic progressive piece of RINO-sh*t, you threw the '08 election, you stab conservatives in the back every chance you have, America would have been better off if those air-to-missile operators in 'Nam had managed to snuff your ass with TWO missiles instead of one.

Yeah, c'mon and call me mean spirited but each every one of you folks know that if McCain had died in 'Nam, this Nation would be far better off today, I'm only saying out loud what everyone else is thinking. Our own Founder called McCain a 'treasonous bastard' and he was right then, and he's right today.

P*ss on you McCain! You and all your progressive-liberal RINO-butt buddies.
