Santorum gambles on shifting away from economy amid signs of recovery
The Washington Post ^ | March 10, 2012 | Felicia Sonmez

One day after a new jobs report suggested that the country’s sluggish recovery may at last be getting off the ground, former senator Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) on Saturday gave his strongest indication yet that he is pivoting away from economic issues and seeking to make inroads among voters on foreign policy and the issue of health care.

...“You hear now the media starting to say, oh well, looks like the economy is getting better,” Santorum told supporters Saturday night in Springfield, Mo., shortly after the Associated Press declared him the winner of the Kansas caucuses. “You know, the economy may be getting better and Republicans may lose their edge on that issue. Well, if that was the only issue in this race, that may or may not be the case, we don’t know.”

He added that “the point is that’s the point -- we don’t know what the big issue of the day is going to be when it comes to national security. It may be the dominant issue, national security with Iran on the precipice of getting a nuclear weapon, Israel feeling increasingly isolated by this administration.”

...“The issue may not be jobs and the economy,” he told the crowd. “It may be something more fundamentally important: Having someone who stood up for something called freedom.”

...“I may not have been a Wall Street private-equity-fund manager, but I served eight years on the Armed Services Committee,” Santorum said Saturday. “I led the charge identifying Iran’s nuclear program nine years ago, authored bills to put sanctions to stop it. We’re not electing a CEO. We’re electing a commander-in-chief, and there’s one person who has experience doing that.”.....

Even Santorum is starting to believe the propoganda spewed ad nauseum by the lame stream media.

Sad really.

He ought to stay on this and lean hard in dismissing these false claims of recovery. Recovery my a$$. Bought gas or hamburger meat lately? Obie is, as usual, lying about the “recovery” that isn’t taking place. BLS lies or misrepresented the unemployment numbers. Don’t count people who have run out of their 99 weeks or whatever the heck it is now for benefits. They are still unemployed just not carried on the rolls any longer. What a load. Shovel ready? Yeah, shoveling you know what.

Just keep in mind that this is left-wing Propaganda from the ComPost.

Contrary to the headline, if you read carefully, Santorum does not say that the economy is getting better, or that it doesn’t matter. He says that THE MEDIA say the economy is getting better. But even if—hypothetically—it does get better, that’s no reason to vote for Obama and the Dems.

Because there is a more basic issue—freedom.

Maybe he’s being a bit too subtle, but no matter what he says, the ComPost will lie about it anyway.

I’m minded of what Mark Steyn says in his recent column on middle-aged Sandra Fluke. Some Republican politicians, such as Arnold, think you can be a conservative economically, but a liberal morally. No, you can’t, because bad morals and government tyranny are not compatible with economic success. Give on one, and you will give on the other.

Actually, Santorum’s message has stayed the same.

The Media has finally “discovered” Santorum’s economic message, and they “report” this as a “change” in Santorum.

Nice contrast for Newt.

Rick + Obama “The economy is improving!”

Newt “They’re numbers are baloney.”

Paraphrased of course. Newt is still hammering the point that job growth is anemic, and Obama’s BLS is just dropping people from the calculation of unemployment. I started a thread the other day about February’s deficit being a record high.

What are these signs of recovery? Are new businesses opening? Are workers getting raises? Are high gas prices really a sign of a healthy economy as Obama and his lapdog media claim? Paying out bonuses to CEOs because they put more workers out on the streets and doubled the workload on the employees who survived THIS cut is not a recovery. Using inflation to drive up profits is not a recovery. It’s gotten so bad that even federal gummint employees are not getting pay raises! When Uncle Sugar can’t afford to give his “workers” a raise every six months or so, you know its bad!

No brains, no guts, no vision.

By his own admission.

Whichever way the wind blows...

He must be getting advice from Romney’s people. Or maybe Romney himself.

Santorum, because of his progressive income tax, better fits the “Socially-Conservative/Fiscally-Liberal” category.

THe ComPost will lie about it....

..and the anti-Santorum group at FR will use it to pile on more negative comments against him.

Sad.

This man is clearly and demonstrably stupid.

And, an apt poster child for the admonition: "It's the economy stupid"!

Wait ‘til Obama magically gets the price of gasoline down a few months before the election - I’m betting it’ll happen ‘in prime debate’ time...

Obama’s friends in the ME will ‘be there for him’ - the Chicago Way. Lower gas prices BEFORE the election.

The crash will be after the election. If Obama wins, the ‘press’ ( Democrat-Media-Complex) will give him a pass and say he’s done all he can - or that Bush is responsible - etc. If the country crashes after a Republican’s been elected - in office 5 months - the MSM will give him full responsibility and blame.

Here’s an international ‘take’ on our MSM:

Irrelevavant. Romney is going to be the GOP nominee, so it doesn’t matter what Santorum does.

Santorum is an establishment stooge, and doesn’t wish to point out that the economy is in freefall.

The media all love his kind of candidate; he helps them with their agenda. (useful idiot)
