The Iron Dome system has intercepted 90 percent of missile attacks on urban centers during the latest rocket bombardment from Gaza.
The expensive systems were inaugurated last year amid controversy over its worth. A primitive Kassam rocket costs terrorists only a few hundred dollars while each Iron Dome anti-missile missile costs $50,000.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu stated Saturday night, We will continue to improve home front defense including by means of additional Iron Dome systems, the effectiveness of which was shown again over the weekend."
The Iron Dome system intercepted about 90 percent of the rockets fired at Beer Sheva, Ashdod and Ashkelon, including three on Sunday morning.
Despite the rocket barrage, Israel kept open the Erez Crossing for passengers and employees of international organizations operating in Gaza. Kerem Shalom was open for the delivery of 200 truckloads to Gaza residents.

Mighty fine shooting.
“The Iron Dome system...”
LOL. I was thinking about the roof of the Astrodome, until I read the article. God Bless & Save Israel.
Yep, agree. It’s just one of those things where the bad guys can do a lot of damage if they’re only successful 10% of the time, but still good work.
Agreed. They need a system that detonates them at launch...
Fine shooting but it’s like raiding the ATM at $50K per pop.
One wonders how many they can handle simultaneously?
When there are too many missles flying simultaneously, the Israelis will have to put a stop to the flights at the launch sites. There will not be time for surgical strikes. Israel will use a limited version of its Samson Option (nuclear weapons) to destroy launch sites in Damascus and Jordan. However, with Jerusalem potentially being downwind from Gaza, it is more likely that they will carpet bomb Gaza with conventional weapons.
I expect the war to begin before summer.
Final testing before the war with Iran.
If it was up to our liberals they would be shouting, “See we told you! It doesn’t work! It only stopped 90%. It let 10% through! It makes no sense to waste all that money on a system that doesn’t stop all the missiles! You war-mongers have wasted a huge amount of money on a system that does not work - money we could have spent on useful things like infrastructure, social programs and health care programs for womyn, children, gays and lesbians! Stupid conservatives!”
On the South days Gaza is down wind from Askelon the target they were firing at, the primary oil refinery and chemical manufacturing city of Israel. It is also where they make all the liquid Chlorine Gas to sanitize the National water supply.
Would be a real shoot in the foot moment if the Paleo-stein savages were to hit that chlorine storage facility when the wind was in their face. Every Oxygen breathing thing due south of Askelon will die.
“Howl, O gate! cry, O city! thou, Philistia, art wholly dissolved; for there cometh from the north a smoke, and none remaineth apart in his gatherings [of troops].”
Isaiah 14:31
Demsuk, they just do.
Wow!
Thank you for that piece of information. It fits with with the Zephaniah 2:4-7 prophecy I have studied.
4 Gaza will be abandoned
and Ashkelon left in ruins.
At midday Ashdod will be emptied
and Ekron uprooted.
5 Woe to you who live by the sea,
you Kerethite people;
the word of the LORD is against you,
Canaan, land of the Philistines.
He says, I will destroy you,
and none will be left.
6 The land by the sea will become pastures
having wells for shepherds
and pens for flocks.
7 That land will belong
to the remnant of the people of Judah;
there they will find pasture.
In the evening they will lie down
in the houses of Ashkelon.
The LORD their God will care for them;
he will restore their fortunes.
Chlorine's a nasty death - stalls out cars - sitting close to the ground - - replacing oxygen... there's no escape.
