Gingrich-Perry Pre-Convention Ticket in the Works
Fox News ^ | 3/11/12 | Carl Cameron

Sources close to the Gingrich campaign say preliminary "what-if" conversations are underway that could lead to a Gingrich-Perry ticket being announced prior to the Republican National Convention at the end of August.

Gingrich aides hope forming a predetermined ticket with Perry will unite the evangelical, Tea Party and very conservative voters that make up the core of the GOP.

As discussions got underway, two senior aides to Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who dropped out of the race and endorsed Gingrich, had not heard of the potential ticket and seemed dismissive. One noted that in the past, Perry has likened the Vice Presidency to a bucket of warm spit. Still, Gov. Perry volunteered his services when he endorsed Gingrich in South Carolina, so he may be on board if it's little more than a joy ride in a trial balloon.

Hope that was just a crossed wire! No way anything KERRY is anything but shite!

As far as Newt/Perry, I’m in! Like and supported Perry. Now am a hard Newtbot.

Santorum is a nice guy, but if he’s the last defense for conservatives, Romney and nobama will Draw and Quarter him in public. Newt/Perry can keep Romney from stealing the show and will run nobama out of town.

My Best Wish List was Sarah, but she had the foresight to see how nasty Romney was going to be and laid low.

I provided the analysis that led Perry to say we were "heartless". Let me assure you I understand the tuition situation PERFECTLY. People without legal residence in the USA can get Texas' in-state tuition but people who've lived in the USA all their lives with family ties back to Queen Anne's War can't!

I put it perfectly, it's pro-Mexican and anti-American.

I'm sure Perri Caliente understands exactly what that means ~ it means, in fact, he ain't runnin' for President no mo!

But illegal immigration isn’t the big problem at the moment. We have bigger fish to fry right now.

Incredible...I heard the exact same thing from the party groupies/insiders when Bush ran the first time and again in 2004.

Perry is an extremely appealing candidate. Seeing his name in connection with this election revived an interest in me that’s been missing since he dropped out.

The people who like him (and there are a lot) REALLY like him.

The people who don’t are mostly uninformed or believe the MSM picture of him.

Altura,

I was in a waiting room a few evenings ago and was thumbing through the stacks of old magazines there. I came across a TIME magazine from Sept. 28, 2011 with Perry on the cover, article title was "The Rise of Rick Perry." I read the article with longing. Oh, how I wish Perry had stayed in and was at the top of the ticket. I'd be glad to see him on a ticket with Gingrich. He'd be someone I could vote FOR. There's so much that the media has portrayed unfavorably of him and he'd make a great leader. I'd love to see him as President but even VP would be wonderful on a ticket with Gingrich.

Perry for VP would be good in terms of winning Texas for Newt in the Primes.

Correction. That cover with Rick Perry was from September 26, 2011.

“Gingrich is the most qualified man in the U.S. to be President. Kerry is the most successful governor in the U.S. This sounds like a winning ticket to me.”

I’m not sure if Kerrey was the most successful governor in the US, but he was head and shoulders better than the ILLEGAL-HUGGING airhead governor we’ve been stuck with in Texas.

It’s only a trail balloon... there’ll be quite a few more, it’s only March.........LOL

Next, the Romney - Crist ticket. And, Santorum - Paul ticket.

A Gingrich-Perry ticket? Would it be another Reagan-Schweiker pick? Reagan is the only one who ever announced a V.P. ahead of time, isn’t he?

Not Santorum-Paul, for Paul despises Santorum. Santorum backers care nothing for Paul either. But Paul backers could help Obama before it’s all over.

I really question if Perry has that much support left in the TX GOP. Maybe he does, but I wonder. I’m afraid Romney is going to be the surprise in TX, as people think of it as an athletic contest where one must pick the winner.

It’s a non-starter as a strategy. There’s no way at this point that Romney, Paul and Santorum would not have enough combined delegates to beat Newt’s at the convention. So if Santorum would prefer the V.P. slot under Mitt to a cabinet position under Newt, then he’d go with Mitt and Newt would lose. Newt/Santorum is also a more electable ticket in the general than an even more heavily Southern ticket. Of the big ideas Newt’s had lately, this one is the least practical. The only idea that works at this point is a Newt/Santorum or Santorum/Newt ticket.
