Gingrich Spox Responds to Jay Carney on Gas Prices
Atlanta, GA Newt Gingrich Communications Director Joe DeSantis released the following statement responding to Jay Carneys assertion that saying we can return to $2.50 gas is lying.
On the issue of gasoline prices, Newt Gingrich has the White House running scared and running on empty. Thats a truth the White House cannot deny. Polls show the American people reject President Obamas excuses and fantasy solutions like algae. They want Newts $2.50 gas plan to dramatically increase domestic oil production so we can get lower prices at the pump.

Newt going on Hannity at the top of the hour.
The problem I see is, who is going to drill for oil in this country for only $2.50/gallon?
The spokesperson is right on about the Obama regime being afraid of Newt's message. Obama is so out of touch with his failed logic.
Remove barriers to entry into the oil drilling market and diminish the regulatory largesse, and suppliers will leap in a heartbeat to commence drilling.
Also it wasn’t that long ago when you could still buy $2.50/gal gasoline at the pump.
Jay Carney and Obama need to be reminded that most Americans are not the dufusses they think we are.
Under Bush 2, when Gas was going up to $4/gal, the libs said there was no way to lower it, that we would not see oil prices drop bvelow $100/barrel ever again.
Then Bush simply announced that he was opening up drilling all over, the gulf, off shore, the ANWR, Dakota.
The Saudis and others couldn’t lower their prices quick enough to try and get out in front of that. They knew what it would mean, even if it did take 3-5 years. They wanted to undercut it and make it economically not feasable.
Prices dropped like a rock and soon we had $1.89/gal gas again...within about six months.
We could do the same thing any time.
IMHO, Newt should be shooting for under #2.00/gal, because 4 years ago that’s exactly what happened.
I believe the next GOP President simply needs to open up all those areas and go for it...even if the Saudis and others lower prices. Take their lower prices now, and then when our oil does kick in, even if it then means $2.25 per gallon, we take it and cut the Saudis and all the others off...tariff the heck out of their products and let them drown in the stuff.
We would then be able to be the largest exporter in the world and we would set the price.
That will never happen under an Obama.
The Man who Despises America
America at the Crossroads of History
If I were President, here’s what I would do
people need to wake up-the more we drill here, we save so much money, create jobs, supply and demand will lower the price. We would be such a strong country—Oh, I forgot, the leftists want us in being a weaker nation. ( as Hillary says, the USA is too powerful compared to other nations-power back to the common sense thinkers away from the leftists/socialist mindset)
I think I’ve got it streaming live on WABC radio, not totally sure they’re on the news break now:
You think like me! When I saw the $2.50 I thought - why not lower. I think he’s being very conservative with that figure, which is good.
Well just a few weeks ago I paid $2.99
But then Im in SE TN 130 miles north of Atlanta as the crow flies..
Maybe Iz speshall
Bachmann liked to remind us that gas was under $2 when Obama took office, and the main thing holding us back from $2 gas is Obama.
Newt already said $2.50 was considered by his experts the price at which the suppliers would find it profitable to drill the new areas. Otherwise he would have targetted a lower price.
Newt’s on Hannity now, listen live here:
There is an equilibrium to economics. Whatever the market price is, it should be set by competition or supply and demand. That is essentially the essence of Newt Gingrich’s message. You don’t let government get in the way by blocking production of oil or let them determine the competition. Communist in government always say yeah but we have to ‘wait ten years’ before we realize a boost in production - that’s BS. Those clowns have been saying that poop for over 30 years and then go about blocking free enterprise. And Obama will promote the fantasy of ‘green’ algae will solve the country’s energy problems. You got to be some kind of stupid to believe that.
You have to understand the left’s hidden agenda, which really isn’t so hidden.
There is a “fighting words” exception to assault prosecution in many jurisdictions.
Calling someone a “liar” is one of those “fighting words.”
Too bad Newt is too much of a gentleman.
Leave it to you to come up with the answer!! Time and time again, I’ve seen that. Thanks.
★ ✰ ✯ GINGRICH/SANTORUM 2012 ✯ ✰ ★
Nope, it was $2.99 at the cheapest stations here in Houston at the beginning of the year.
Go get em Newt!
I agree Gingrich/Santorum would be a much better ticket than any ticket with Romney. That guy needs to be sent packing or we have 4 more years of O.
Yes, Newt has practically single handedly re-defined the issues of this election, but apparently won’t get credit for it. Neil Cavuto just devoted a large part of his show to the gas price issue.
She is pretty fair. Although at times, she does tend to overplay devil’s advocate.
I believe I heard Newt say this - If 2/3rds or over of the delegates are against Myth, he doesn’t get be the presidential nominee when the Repub Convention rolls around in Tampa.
I think we have a good chance of blocking Romney in August.
In the great scheme of things, it wasn't all that long ago that $2.50 was outrageously expensive gas.
“Maybe Iz speshall”
No. Youz spatial!
Newt seemed a little more bullish on his electoral prospects today than on the Sunday shows. He did downplay Hannity’s suggestion that Romney will do badly tomorrow by saying Romney has outspent Newt and Rick combined by a million dollars in AL and MS. He says he will compete in TX, CA and PA and suggested Pennsylvanians are not all that happy with Santorum. He did say his plan is to deny Romney a majority of delegates and then spend 60 days trying to work out a deal to sway delegates via phone calls, internet, etc. He made a big error IMO when he said he thinks that Ron Paul delegates might not go to Romney. My spying work suggests otherwise. Especially if Santorum is on Newt’s ticket, since they despise Santorum with every fiber of their being. My opinion remains Newt and Rick won’t be able to deny Romney enough delegates to make winning a negotiation possible unless one of them drops out to improve their prospects in the 14 out of 27 partial or total winner-take-all states coming up.
Much trickery and rabbits out of hats will become evident as we get closer to the election. Deals with his breathren muzzies could be one of them. I only hope that on election night he and she get a slapdown that his mother will feel and a picture of their two faces when the announcement is made.
Newt has said that under two dollars a gallon is possible, at least at times. He uses the 2.50 model because that’s the easy promise to make. That’s the price that wold make oil production in this country profitable enough to guarantee that our oil companies would drill it here instead of buying it over seas.
So yes, under a Newt energy policy there would be many periods under 2.50 but that would sort of be a high end price.
I think all references should be to Obama’s “crony algae” energy policy.
Yesterday at Costco gas station, I paid $4.24 /gallon (regular).
3 weeks back it was $3.54
Costco where ???
Costco - Silicon Valley (Santa Clara/Sunnyvale)
I was hoping Newt would hold a press conference on this-make it a bigger deal than merely a statement.
But,mtrott, Newt will get credit- because again, he was clever. He specified a price- Romney says the specific price is pandering, and Obama says he can’t control price. So, they’re locked in position-
Thus, the rest of them can only say that gas has to come down— but, the $2.50 gas campaign exclusively belongs to Newt.
Gasoline was only $1.87 when Bush left office and there was a lot of exploration going on then. Why would you think there would be any less at $2.50?
Newt is the master:) he is already shaking up the Whitehouse and he isnt even the nominee. They must be terrified of him! note...it is Newt and Palin the WH goes after...not much on Santorum or even Romney in comparison
He says he will compete in TX, CA and PA and suggested Pennsylvanians are not all that happy with Santorum.
If they want to increase the odds of blocking Myth to the delegates, they divvy up those 8 winner-take-all states so one of them takes on Myth one-on-one. Newt takes Texas while Santo takes New York and so on. Santo and Newt's Super Pacs could even double team Myth Romney in all winner-take-all states.
I believe he still can do just that later.

Yes and yes, it is easy for the public to understand the "$2.50/gal" price, and Newt can expand on the issue as I have in posted in #15, which blows Mitten's and Obama's simple excuses.
I said this a few days ago... I drove cross-country the other day. Paid $4.05 at my favorite California convenience store (its now at $4.25)... about $3.75 in Vegas if I remember right... $3.29 in Utah (highway price), $2.95 in Wyoming (highway price), $3.08 in Denver. Then similar prices on the return.
We pay an extra buck a gallon just for living in California.
The price drops immediatly as soon as you leave the state.
There are those within this nation who cannot abide a wealthy America. They will forever maneuver events so that our wealth is spent buying what we could provide easily from our own resources.
A wealthy and productive nation never chooses poverty and slavery. They do not desire a despotic ruler.
Communism can only be born in the midst of poverty and misery.
This is all part of the plan and the communist/socialist types have been working the plan for a long time. Communism can not be implemented unless the citizens are hurting bad, abject misery, therefore we must be impoverished, unemployed and with no way out.
Taxes on business and industry were implemented and then raised causing them to leave this nation with our wealth and jobs. Restrictions were placed on extracting our natural resources and more taxes were implemented and again raised. the result was spending our wealth buying oil and metals from others. This is leading us down the garden path to accepting their utopia.
When we quit taxing business and industry, the corporations will move back because WE are the most productive workers in the world. When we extract our own oil and metals, we retain our wealth instead of sending it overseas. When we do these things we will be on the road to recovery. When we do these things the communists/socialists will fight us tooth and nail and remember, to them lie, cheat, steal and murder are OK as long as it furthers their agenda.
And now you know the rest of the story!
Why this man isn’t walking away with the nomination is beyond me! Couldnt agree more!
I watched the forum intently. Someone should tell Santorum he is running for Commander in Chief, not Minister in Chief. We each have our own ministers, and we know who our Savior is. Additionally, I do not appreciate Santorum utilizing key words developed by Mr. Newt. That to me makes him a cheap copy of the one and only original...Mr. Newt. We have suffered through the last 3.5 years with an amateur, we sure as hell do not need another one.
Santorums speech was full of grammatical errors, stumbles, and stutters. Santorum was speaking as though he was very aware of who was coming up behind him, and definitely seemed off his stride. I noticed the other night after Santorum won Kansas (full of stupid people), that he started using Mr. Newt’s words to describe the difference in choice between he and Obama. That is not cool. Next he will be saying he will never bow to a Saudi King.” That to me is very tacky, and quite unprofessional as an attorney. To me, it is like plagiarism, an academic crime, but for a presidential candidate it just shows that he is not ready for prime time. Santorum also lied about Mr. Newt on several occasions. By the way, I too got several of Santorums robo calls before the Kansas caucus. They were filled with lies and innuendos about Mr. Newt, touting his marriage credentials and all those children. Any of those adult children serve in the military? I bet not. At least Ms. Sarahs son did his tour before beginning his life as an adult. By the way, I have a daughter who served in the Navy for four years (the son I always wanted) before getting married (first), settling down to give me a grandson 2 years later.
Now, Mr. Newt opened up with an immediate attack on Obama, after his mouthpiece, Carney, called Mr. Newt a liar. Very cool!! Mr. Newt can think on his feet like no one else and prepare a comeback that knocks your socks off. Mr. Newt even read the quote word for word, so he wouldn’t make a mistake as to what was said by Carney. And as if that were not enough, Mr. Newt challenged him to a debate on energy (not that the coward Obama would take him up on it). Mr. Newt can fill up 15 minutes (yes, he was cut off in the allocation of time), like no other. I could listen for hours. His depth of knowledge just amazes me. His power to capture the room is evident. His debating skills alone would be enough for me, but he is right on almost every issue of national importance.
Romney is a weasel for not showing up, and Ricky-boy should have also passed on this one. He did not do well at all, and sounded desperate to make his points. His language was poor, and he was not truthful in his attacks on Mr. Newt. Without a doubt, Mr. Newt was the defined winner of this forum, and, unless Alabama and Mississippi are as stupid as Kansas was, should take both states with decent margins. I recorded this event and will watch it again later, but thought I would give you my opinion anyone for some Pecan Pie?
Hear hear! I’m with you! Why fight when we can have both?
What could stop this from happening?
I believe the excitement that would arise from the base if that were announced out of the convention would dwarf even the excitement generated by Sarah Palin’s entry into the race.
What could stop it from happening is Romney + Paul + the uncommitted party member delegates having more total delegates by the end of the primary than Newt + Rick do. And my reading of the upcoming states with many winner-take-all contests is that the only way Newt + Rick can have more delegates than the others by the end is one of them drops out, because it would allow the other one to get over 50% in some contests, which invokes rules that give them ALL the delegates, and because it would stop Romney from winning most plurality winner-take-all contests, where even a mere 26% would give him all the delegates if the other 3 candidates split the vote.
Yes Greta is doing a fair & balanced job. She’s the ONLY one there doing so. Who would’ve thought that would be the case years ago when she arrived?
You graph does not show gas prices for 2012. I have looked everywhere and can’t find anything that shows the current numbers. Perhaps they are hiding something.
