“and subtracting billions in government subsidies we have....?”

Nothing. Even those “buying” solar get about half back in tax rebates.

I notice he talks about wind capacity as built but
makes no mention of how much is actually produced.

Bingo. Nary a mention of average production.

Boy this moron has been out in the sun too long.

I would love to have an on air interview with this clown and just run the simple numbers of Watts per Sq foot, $/Watt BOTH on an AVERAGE day not bright noon time sunlight.

Then ask this ignorant stooge if he could produce a solar cell @100% efficiency (instead of the low double digit efficiency of today’s cells) could he produce electricity AND store it overnight and on an average number of cloudy days at anywhere near the levels required to make Solar a viable alternative for the AVERAGE homeowner.

Even at 100% efficiency, the storage issues eat up any possible ROI. In reality with current efficiency realistic 2 watts of electricity for every square foot of actual PV cells are about the best we can obtain and that is not enough to perform any real work.

I find all of these energy nuts to be woefully ignorant on the magnitude of our energy requirements. They rely on government officials, and the mouth droolers watching the alphabet networks also being ignorant.

Solar is about collecting energy, Oil is about compressing that energy in to a reduced time expansion in order to exponentialy scale up the power output.

These solar power people compare apple and oranges when they speak of solar vs. oil. Oil is much better at developping power, solar at collecting energy. They are two different things.

This whole debate is so stupid, but this is what you get when you let liberals in charge of the science they like to debauche in, and then act in knee jerk reaction over the “over consumption” that they themselves indulge in like lusty idiots.

I have a solar array on my roof. It’s also good at reducing my PG&E bill. A bit.

Have you run the ROI on that? It's been a while since I did one of these analysis with a customer. But, if I remember correctly, I'm 0 - 5 trying to sell "green" energy sources for private commercial companies.

Why? Because the ROI (Return on Investment) is always longer than the expected manufacturer's stated useful life. In other words...the monthly savings that your realize will finally pay for the initial investment for the technology 5 to 15 years after the technology quits working. It will never pay for itself.

Money matters in the real world.

Without subsidies all of these businesses fold overnight as opposed to oil which is at war with the gummit.

Pray for America

The U.S. solar market grew to a $6 billion industry in 2010, up 67% from $3.6 billion in 2009.

and subtracting billions in government subsidies we have....?

You beat me to it. GWB has some responsibility in getting these subsidies going. But like you say above, it is costing us $7 billion per year to keep a $6 billion a year industry afloat.

Economic brilliance at work here.

The growth in the solar industry is from federal funding, and that funding is going down a rat hole.

It’s an oil redistribution scheme. Oil is already energy paid for, and, so, now lawyers like Edwards or Obama want to extort favors in exchange for it, and, that, in the end, means abuse and distrust and drugs and no machinery. Just a one time kill for your wallet for the rest of your life type scam.

Economic brilliance at work here.

Indeed, these people do not seem to tie economy with ecology, because if something pollutes, it sure is economic moronics of the government "solar tax payer collectors", so to speak.
