Hey Jo did you switch horses, you were supporting Romney on the other thread. The Zot mobile may show up if you continue to swap horses.

Romney is praying that Newt stays in. Newt Gingrich is the best friend he has right now. Newt is my man. I’d have loved to have seen him become President of the United States, but, it’s time for him to go.

I won’t restate the obvious that “Newt ain’t Ronald Reagan” but the demographics of the electorate has changed. We need Santorum who connects with blue-collar voters and can win some of the key Rust-Belt states.

Gingrich was expected to win these states. They are in his backyard. A week ago his campaign manager said that if he loses any one of them, he’d quit. The Gingrich camp and his campers on FR were booze dizzy with the polls showing Gingrich in the lead 24 hours ago. So close seconds don’t count here.

Try as you might, the fact remains that Newt is rising, and Santorum is dropping. Santorum should have had both states by ten points, and didn't because his support among white males and evangelicals is slipping.

But sure, go ahead and keep reacting to the last 24 hours instead of paying attention to the last 24 days. If that makes you happy, then go for it.

I've made up my choice, but Rick needs to come visit Illinois before visiting Puerto Rico. I am pretty sure we have more delegates and the right wing vote after tonight will go to Santorum.

As I said earlier I've been all over the state the last few months, no Romney signs but lots of Santorum signs.

If I get in trouble for admitting my vote, I apologize to those who still support Newt who I respect, but I am voting for Rick Santorum and hopefully my fellow IL FReepers do and the rest of the conservatives in this hell hole state come out in droves for Rick!!!

It was Newt and his “Southern Strategy” that got rolled tonight.

By hanging on Gingrich can tip the nomination to Mittens in the hopes that he would then be “entitled” to the VP slot.

“Hopefully, the N-ewt Pelosi crowd will now call it quits.”

Posts like yours make it hard to do that. I can support your guy, but I don’t like him. Make it a burden and I won’t bother.

Gingrich was expected to win these states.

That's absolutely true, even Newt will agree with you.

Still, I think Romney is not desired at all by conservatives, and Santorum will get eaten alive by Obama.

Newt is the only, remaining, non-Mitt who can take it to Obama.

“But, thank God, Romney was edged out anyway”

Yup.

Newt is on FOX now. He just made two good points for not dropping out. He pointed out:

1. Rick Santorum went head-to-head with Romney in Ohio and lost and Michigan and lost.

2. If Romney has only one opponent to pour his money and negative ads into rather than two candidates, he will clean his opponent’s clock.

Newt could be right.

Yeah, he connects with blue-collar voters so well that they tossed his rear end out of Pennsylvania's Senate seat by an 18-point margin.

Good grief, anyone who thinks Santorum could actually win the general election is nuts. Certifiably nuts. You people are wishcasting the Republican Party off a cliff.

Newt has been called a “Hindenberg ready to explode.” He’s heavy duty baggage will sink a cruise liner.

If you SantoBots had better attitudes, you may get some Newt supporters to vote for your guy.

. Santorum seriously underperformed tonight

How did he did that considering he was behind in the polls in both states going into the primaries?

You're living a fantasy world.

Santorum seriously underperformed tonight, and most of his loss over the last two weeks appear to have shifted to Newt. The trend may yet be Newt’s friend.

That makes NO sense whatsoever.

Agree - that made no sense. I hate it but tonight was a serious body blow that put Newt down on one knee. There is really no way to sugarcoat it.

Yash - I doubted Santorum. I doubted he could even place in the top 3 of any primary when this thing started. I won’t doubt him again. He does not get the media coverage and has little money but he is posting wins. Conventional wisdom has been wrong througout this race so don’t put much stock in the polls that say Santorum loses to Obama.

Bottom line for this primary has been that the polls are full of crap. I won’t doubt Santorum again although I still prefer Gingrich.

Santorum might stand a chance in Pennsylvania if he can get a reciprocating endorsement from Arlen Specter and Sonya Sotomayor?

That would probably do more good than a Newt endorsement from Nancy Pelosi in California.

C’mom. Had it not been for Gingrich, Santorum would have won MI and OH. Gingrich was tossed out of Congress by his own colleagues.
