March 13, 2012 Gingrich Is in No Hurry to Bow Out Even After Falling Short of Double Wins in Deep South, Former Speaker Still Sees a Way to Push Fight to the Convention

BILOXI, Miss.—Even as pressure mounts on Newt Gingrich to drop out of the Republican presidential contest, the former House speaker is preparing to stick it out—with a new short-term goal of keeping Mitt Romney from securing the nomination.
Mr. Gingrich faced crucial primary tests Tuesday in Alabama and Mississippi, states where he campaigned hard to jump-start his flagging campaign. He lost both to former Sen. Rick Santorum, though he appeared on track to finish a respectable second in both. Even if he had realized his dream of winning both, though, some Republican officials doubt that would have generated enough momentum to win the nomination.
Still, Mr. Gingrich and his advisers say he isn't going anywhere. In a concession speech, Mr. Gingrich was gracious to Mr. Santorum, while calling the results an indictment of Mr. Romney, widely seen as the front-runner. "I believe that after the primaries are over it will be obvious the so-called front-runner in fact didn't get there, and from that point we will be in a whole different conversation," Mr. Gingrich said.
As those remarks suggest, Mr. Gingrich and his campaign have embraced a new goal, which is to block Mr. Romney. "He believes the long haul is to get enough delegates to stop Romney from getting the nomination before the convention," said campaign chairman Bob Walker, a former congressman. "If Romney is stopped, I don't think he gets the nomination at the convention."

Romney offering Newt something to stay in & keep Romney alive?? It’s the only thing that makes sense. If Gingrich endorsed Santorum it would be a Santorum landslide.

PS - I agree with you (and NO, I don’t support Mittens - it’s just a fact that he’d have a better chance against BHO than Santorum, which isn’t saying much). Neither MR nor RS can beat BHO - Newt could.
I listened again to my hero Breitbart’s speech at CPAC and he was right as usual. He said we really need to vote for whoever ends up running against BHO because he’s that frightening for our country (I’m paraphrasing somewhat), and I will. Maybe if more of us had voted against b. hussein in ‘08, he would’ve lost, but SO many decided to “sit it out” on principle.
I’m just saying that (IMO) neither MR nor RS can beat the Wan, but he has to be stopped. If there weren’t a massive media/establishment shut-out of Newt, and millions more could hear him, he’d defeat Obama and save the Republic with our support.

The key is looking at his a) key big name endorsers, and b) key big name donors.
Game Plan: As they are way more accessible than the Candidate (or advisors) himself, the necessary and appropriate pleas and pressure can and should be put on THEM to put an end to this nightmarish Conservative Split Dilemma (CSD) the Party is currently suffering that is playing right into Mitt Romney's hands every day that it is allowed to continue. Email, phone, fax, telephone call, online SNS, etc.. Starting with beloved Sarah Palin, though she did not endorse openly, time to read the grassroots riot act to her loud and clear in Wasila that we need a solid united Conservative Front behind one candidate to stop Romney, the RINO, and not a moment too soon. I KNOW for sure she does not want Romney to have the nomination. I believe she could be somewhat of a factor in that outcome at this critical and sensitive time.
I and a few others will try putting in some e-mails tomorrow on this topic, I suggest Santorum supporters do this in addition to pro-actively fundraising, remote canvass phone calls to the states in play and additional work FOR Santorum, in Wisconsin, and Illinois, etc. Engaging in direct combat on this forum or otherwise with those who are very solid and unwavering in their support of the Speaker and do not want him to suspend, and particularly those who spout they would vote for Romney or Obama over Santorum, well, is quite a d*mned waste of time. I wouldn't spend as much time on arguing with one of them as I would going down the hall to pass a bit of water in the latrine. Eagles Up folks. Fasten seatbelts, the MSM and the Romney Camp hits are really, really going to get fierce now. I believe I can already smell the hand of Karl Rove at work. But I guess they dug up all the past dirt on "Big Ricky" (sic) as they could and have have exhausted their opppos ammo, poor babies.

Well, gotta say that the women’s vote has been (and is) often disturbing. They went for JFK, Clinton, Obama and now Romney. They’re also the major stumbling block for Newt, who is just what our country needs at this time.
I think we conservative females on FR are awesome, but sadly, we don’t represent the majority of women voters, obviously.
Most probable outcome, he doesn't win the nomination. Second most probable, he wins the nomination and effectively re-elects Obama. Rosiest pie in the sky scenario, he wins the presidency. In his first term we will lose the entire Congress. If he gets re-elected the subsequent democrat will make Barack Obama look like Barry Goldwater. He can not define nor defend conservative principles. GWB is the posterchild for what happens to conservatives when we elect someone who cannot or will not define and defend our position.
If Newt drops out I will support Romney.
Unfortunately, there is no way to put the universal suffrage horses back in the barn.

There should be requirements to be allowed to vote.
A landowner (land valued at least 25% of the average)
or
A military veteran
No person who receives public assistance should be allowed to vote. That eventually leads to bums voting for bigger handouts.
To be president you should be required to have served in the military.
The idea that someone could rise to commander in chief and not be a veteran is repugnant to me!
So, you agree with the vast majority of his positions on the issues yet believe he can't beat Obama and his policies would resort in Republicans losing Congress?

I certainly agree with you on veterans and property owners/taxpayers. The founders were big on property ownership as a measure of skin in the game. If voting were limited to the Makers rather than the Takers, elections would turn out very differently and BHO wouldn’t be in power.
That's all going to be true of Romney.
I'd rather take my chances with a conservative and risk all that than with a liberal like Romney who will push the party to the left and sell conservatives out on issue after issue.
