Recommend you reply with: “So tell me.. how exactly are the Republicans holding him back, and to what degree did they hinder him for the first two years of his administration?”

Be ready with a retort about the dems having had super-majorities in both houses of Congress for those first two years.

And of course, that`ll elicit a blank stare and some incoherent babbling about “racism.”

Land values and lack of (much) local competition are a big cost driver there.

Don’t know the area. Did not write the article, but it was in The Weekly Standard with that title.

Use of block size, is a very inaccurate method to describe distance. There is no real standard between cities. Grid pattern issue make it worse.

I suspect that 15 blocks is the nearest gas station to the White House. Also bet the regulation of such installations near the White House makes it very costly.

As the price goes up, the difference between this station and neighboring stations gets more and more absurd. The station across the street is at $3.93 according to http://www.gasbuddy.com, and this Exxon is at $5.39. It isn’t for lack of competition, that’s for sure.

15 blocks is too close to that.

It’s higher at the gas station in that pic ALWAYS, because it’s IN dc and right near rock creek park, and like it says— walking distance from the WH. there are very few gas stations IN DC proper. I got gas this AM on my way in to work from surburban Fairfax and i paid $4.05, which is still way up from last week.

Location, Location, Location...

And if they purchasers of gasoline get to expense it to tax payers, they probably don?t care what it costs.

Just so. I’m in Montgomery Co. Md , the very affluent bedroom suburb of Washington DC. The stations in or on the edges of the most affluent neighborhoods have the highest prices. Both the land cost and RE taxes play significant roles in pricing. Additionally the number of Fed Gov take home cars with attendant gov credit cards would boggle the mind of the average citizen. These people just don’t give a damn. Their arrogance requires that they must ignore the costs of “mundane” items. It’s a badge of privilege.

On January 21, 2009, the price of the gallon was $1.87

The prices at this station are normally a buck more than elsewhere anyway. It’s at the Watergate! A bit more than comfortable walking distance, too.

It’s not pump your own. It’s for a very high income neighborhood. The real estate there is out of site.

No crime here, and no real comparison to almost any other station in the DC area.

Are the taxes on gas really that high in DC? The point remains the same, but we’re sitting at nearly $2 per gallon less expensive.

Across the river from DC in Bethesda, MD, gas is going for $4.79 a gallon.

That may be the gas station over by the Kennedy Center. For some reason it’s always about $2.00 higher than the national average. Guess they don’t want anyone to bother them.

I wouldn’t be suprised if they are being intentionally manipulated by “whoever”....and I don’t care.

I've been thinking the same thing, however I believe that those who are manipulating the prices will continue to raise them until about September, when they'll magically crash, and Obama the messiah will claim the credit for the newly reduced gasoline prices.

I live in Illinois too. It amazes me that, despite the horribly mismanaged state economy, massive debt and the fact that the dims have been running this place into the ground for the last 30-40 years, the ignorant voters will continue to elect the very same dim senators and congressmen that got us into this mess in the first place.

I swear this has got to be one of the dumbest states in the nation.

or maybe they are being raised now only to decrease right before the election so OB can claim credit.

Probably the only people who buy gas at this station are people who get to send the tax payers the bill for it......

You got that right!.

I'm with you on this. It may keep some voters from getting to the poll in the general, BUT NOTHING WILL STOP ME AND LIKE ME. NOTHING. I don't care if it goes to $15, I WILL VOTE.

IF WE HAVE TO RIDE OUR BIKES, WALK, CARRY PIGGYBACK,CRAWL OR CARPOOL, WE WILL GET THERE. MAKE NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT FACT, mr.zero.

You know the will be bussing their welfare dem voters in, by BIG BUSSES, so they won't be disinfranchised, doncha know?

I’ve lived in the WDC area for about 30 years. If the average taxpaying citizen saw what goes on around here, tar and feathers would be the best selling thing. Your tax money drives this area. Money and power slosh around here like there is no tomorrow. So, Citizen, shut up, get to work (if you have a job) and pay your taxes to support this monstrosity. The government is full of your betters. They believe you are stupid. Let them know how you feel on election day.
