UN rights council delves into US voter I.D. laws
Fox News ^ | 3/19/2011 | Eric Shawn

The controversy over requiring voters to provide photo IDs has reached the world stage.

The United Nations Human Rights Council is investigating the issue of American election laws at its gathering on minority rights in Geneva, Switzerland.. This, despite the fact that some members of the council have only in the past several years allowed women to vote, and one member, Saudi Arabia, still bars women from the voting booth completely.

Officials from the NAACP are presenting their case against U.S. voter ID laws, arguing to the international diplomats that the requirements disenfranchise voters and suppress the minority vote.

Eight states have passed voter ID laws in the past year, voter ID proposals are pending in 32 states and the Obama administration has recently moved to block South Carolina and Texas from enacting their voter ID measures.

"This really is a tactic that undercuts the growth of your democracy," said Hillary Shelton, the NAACP's senior vice president for advocacy, about voter photo ID requirements.

In a Fox News interview prior to his trip, Shelton said the message from the NAACP delegation to the Human Rights Council is that the photo ID law "undercuts the integrity of our government, if you allow it to happen. It's trickery, it's a sleight-of-hand. We're seeing it happen here and we don't want it to happen to you, and we are utilizing the U.N. as a tool to make sure that we are able to share that with those countries all over the world."

Yeah yeah the purple ink doesn’t stop illegals from voting but they’ll vote anyway so might as well minimize the damage with purple ink.

Like a bunch of communists and muslims have the right to tell anyone else how to run elections!
The UN needs to be sent packing! I suggest Saudi Arabia.

Odds are it will pass with flying colors, and be instituted immediately here.

Obama 2.0, here we come.

I have my doubts about the former (perhaps he was a CAD), but given that leftists have been foisting gobble grub-a-mint since before Versailles, it is appropriate, n'est ce pas?

Why doesn’t the UN move to Europe or someplace like that. Then NYC can make some money off the building after they turn it into condos.

Its amazing of the hubris of the UN. Many other countries require Voter ID in order to vote.

0bama has recruited groups such as the NAACP to enlist the services of the United Nations to help him STEAL our election. This is dirty-rotten Chicago politics, with '0bama' written all over it.

0bama is behind this, HAVE NO DOUBT. He is desperate now and is turning up the heat on CHANGE to ensure his re-election. 0bama puppet Panetta also stated last week the the U.N. decides whether the United States goes to war or not. This was done to placate the U.N. in advance of their Voter I.D. 'ruling'. The voter ID issue is no coincidence. This is 0bama-in-overdrive with a U.N.-led end result that keeps his Marxist regime in place. How nice of the Marxists at the U.N. to help get 0bama re-elected. THIS CANNOT STAND. PERIOD. THIS IS AN ATTACK ON AMERICA. I wonder what OTHER STUNTS we’ll see from 0bama and his Czars between now and November?

IMPEACH 0BAMA AND HIS GESTAPO-CZARS!

They would not be the National Association of Always Complaining People, if they were not griping about something.

Here’s a compromise I offer the Democrats. No voter ID laws in exchange for making vote fraud a capital offense.

You know what we should do? We should all show up at the United Nations building the next time they are in session and demand to vote on U.N. resolutions. If they ask for our IDs we'll fall on the ground and cry that we're being oppressed.

Well need about a thousand people armed with video/iphones to make this work.

Would the left like to be on the receiving end of the election policies used by nations on the “UN Human Rights Council?”

Since FR has an abuse policy I will not comment on what the UN can do with their opinion on our election law.

"... So you can imagine the US crew standing there....and almost everyone listening at the meeting...requires an ID by age eighteen...to do anything, from voting to buying booze."

Similar thing happened between the European and American anti-war protests during the Bush years where the American protesters were railing against the US Patriot Act, listing all of the intrusive and sinister new government powers that the act bestowed... and the European protesters were puzzled by the American outrage since their governments have long been able to pretty much do every sinister thing on the list, and plenty more.

In Germany for instance, if the police get a search warrant for your premises, it just says 'SEARCH WARRANT' with little else. They can just start opening up your mail out in your mailbox if they want. No judge is going to dismiss the case because the address was incorrect; the cops knew who they were focusing on, and that's good enough for the court. When you go to court, the judge learns for the first time that the police had been tapping your telephone all along to prove evidence of your crimes. In France, if they think you're a terrorist, they just swoop you up and you sit in jail until they decide what they're charging you with. THEN you see your lawyer. They've been doing that to pesky Algerian activists since George Bush was a baby, if not longer. In the Latin Euro nations, the cops can just basically whoop your ass until you confess.

Once the American organizers of the anti-war protests realized this discrepancy, they stopped making references to showing opposition to the US Patriot Act. I have archives of the old anti-war protest posters which prove this out, having been living in San Francisco at the time.
