A clearly miffed Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) called on Newt Gingrich and other Republican presidential candidates Tuesday to temper their remarks on U.S. military involvement in Afghanistan, warning they run the risk of dividing the GOP and emboldening the Taliban.

Graham, a vocal defender of military action in Afghanistan and previous operations in Iraq, said he was “very disappointed” with the former House speaker’s recent comments that the United States no longer has “the willpower or the capacity to do the things you have to do to fundamentally change” Afghanistan.

I want to finish the job in Afghanistan but we have spent far too much in Blood and Treasure on a country stuck in the 4th century.

The critical question is, What possible "job" could we hope to "finish" in Afghanistan at this point? Our work there is done. We have nothing left to accomplish. We should call it a day and bring the troops home.

Dear Linda,

What are the objectives?

What are the strategies to obtain same?

Where is the time-line?

We should have had a full withdrawl in July 2009 when Obama said that victory wasn’t the goal.

Always thought we should get IN and then OUT of Afghanistan as quickly as possible.

The place has bad juju. No country after Alexander the Great has had much luck with the place. I’d go so far as to say it’s bad luck is contagious!

Declare victory - leave - then keep an eye on it with satellites - if camps start up again, send the gift of cruise missiles or bomb it from 40,000 ft.

Let the Afghans suffer in that creepy place.

There is No way to finish this job the way it should be done.Obama will not allow it.

We have wasted enough lives and treasure on that dump.Lets stop kidding ourselves here.As far as Linseed Graham is concerned he can take along jump off off the Grand Canyon.

This clown and His pal John McCain are insisting we get involved in that crap in Syria which would be another RINO F-UP.

Bump. You know you are in deep trouble when you find yourself trying to pacify a barbarian land that Rudyard Kipling wrote melancholy poetry about... If the British at the height of their empire couldn't do it, and the merciless Soviet war machine couldn't do it, then guaranteed our ambivalent, politically crippled efforts won't get any further.

Wasn’t Lindsey a part of Newt’s Class of 1994? I wonder what Newt knows about him, probably what Pelosi knows about Newt.

If the British at the height of their empire couldn't do it, and the merciless Soviet war machine couldn't do it

The latter tends to be forgotten by the people advocating staying there and 'trying harder'.

It's been interesting to watch the vocal majority of Freepers finally come around to Ron Paul's position on the futility of this adventure in Afghanistan (hundreds of lives and billions in debt later, of course). I guess they're all 'nuts' now too.

There’s a job that needs doing in DC
Civilian control of the military is highly overrated

There’s no nation-building boondoggle that can last too long or cost too much money to satisfy the likes of Grahamnesty and McAmnesty.

Let someone else spend hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars (borrowed against their grandchildren’s incomes) and lose thousands of brave troops to try to bring these barbarians from the 7th into the 8th century.

Newt is right—we need to get out.

Wow, what a stern thing to say from Missy.....

Newt's positives just went up in my book :) On the serious side, I trust Newt more to get in to revamp our goals/if need out, then leave. By the way, this is the very theme that Romney used when ask about the Speaker's comments of leaving that region. Memo of the talking points are out.

I am no foreign policy dove by any means, but somehow we need to get the cold clear light of reality to shine in on the policymakers in State and the Pentagon. They seem to be living in a through-the-looking-glass world.

Yep...and Linds has said that the plan to take out Newt was started in his office! It’s clear that he wants RINO Romney as President so he can be AG because he is toast(as a Senator) in 2014!

“Send Lightloafered Lindsey over to A-stan.

*************************************************************

In addition to being a corrupt CINO, Little Lindsey has always been a REMF (in case you don’t know, the RE stands for Rear Echelon—I’ll let you figure out what the MF stands for) who is always willing to expend somebody else’s blood and treasure so he can appear tough.

The latest example of this is the jihad he and McCain are waging to have us bomb Syria. Both twerps have absolutely no idea what the REAL story is there.
