If the Federal Tax on Gasoline, Jet Fuel and Diesel were removed for one year, then the price of fuel would decrease by that amount. If a gallon of gasoline costs $ 4.00, and the Federal Tax was 40 cents, then the price at the pump would be $ 3.60, a savings of 10 %.
Simple, just pass a National Fuel Tax Holiday Bill! However, there are a couple of problems.
The first problem is Senator "Bottleneck" Reid. In his senility, he has taken a personal, and very fussy interest in the US Senate, and daily makes sure that all discussions ALWAYS put political ideology above what is good for the United States of America.
Harry, (that is what his ideological friends call him), Reid knows that the Federal Government does not need money, so he has not allowed a Federal Budget to be passed in over three years. He truly is a Bottleneck to our once great Nation.
However, the main problem is that no Candidate has yet written the National Fuel Tax Holiday Bill. Seems simple enough, just dust off the recent Payroll Tax Holiday Bill, change a few nouns and PRESTO! The "pain at the pump" is reduced in an instant!
Will it be Candidate Obama? No, he is to busy opening the valves of the Petroleum Reserves set aside for only Military emergencies.
Will it be one of the Four Republican Horsemen? Maybe, if they pause long enough to think about punitive taxation.
Who will be the first Candidate to write it and challenge Ol' Harry Bottleneck?
The bragging rights would be immense to the first one to write THE NATIONAL FUEL TAX HOLIDAY BILL!
I can hear the ads now: "The cost of the loaf of bread that you bought in the store today is cheaper because working families have more money in their pockets. Your Children can now receive their pennies for doing their household chores - - - (pause while politician wipes his eyes) - - - , and all because the pain at the pump has been reduced by simply asking Sheriff of Nottingham Timmy Gee to not rob the poor and give to The Government. And I approve [of] this message, well at least until I get elected."
What say all of you?
I say, AMEN.
ALL federal, state and local taxes on energy are obscene..
Any energy not just gasoline..
Just get Ethanol out of my gas and I will be happy.
Since the gas tax goes to fund roads, would there also be a holiday on federally supported road construction?
The payroll tax holiday may have made sure that the debt ceiling debate of last summer occurs at the time of the election.
This proposal if implemented would make sure that happens.
53.7 cents per gallon tax?? In Kahleefohneeyah.
” - - - the gas tax goes to fund roads - - - “
This has never been true. All fuel tax income has always been dumped into the General Fund to be paid out, (after removing the usual Administration fee), to whatever the needs of the moment are.
There are NO “Trust” funds in the Federal Tax System, only the General Fund, that makes that giant sucking sound - - - .
BTW, why do politicians con us about having “Trust” funds when the US Federal Government goes broke every year?
Who will be the first Presidential Candidate to write THE NATIONAL FUEL TAX HOLIDAY BILL?
I just sent an Email to Mr. Newt through: NewtGingrich@email.humanevents.com
I sent him your suggestion with a note to follow FreeRepublic and all his supporters. I think it is an outstanding, BIG AND BOLD IDEA, which only Mr. Newt could pull off.
Santorum is going to self-destruct very soon, and his supporters will take another look at Mr. Newt before they will go to Romney. I will sit the election out if Romney is the nominee. I discussed it with my husband and he feels the same way. The media has already begun to direct their negativity towards Santorum and Romney on religious grounds. It will be reasonably subtle at first, but it will be effective. The closer we get to the election, it will get worse. Pastor Rick just does not have what it takes to handle the onslaught from the media. He will stumble badly, just as he did in Puerto Rico calling for English only. How stupid can anyone be? Romney cannot begin to explain Mormonism to those who refuse to believe it is not a cult. I do not know enough about it to make an argument, but that is not why I cant support him. It is kind of like Obama being black. I could care less what the color of his skin is, it is what is in his mind and heart. Romney feels he is deserving of the Presidency because he paid his dues in 2008, and it is his turn in the establishments eyes.
Not again, our party cannot deal with another loss this time around, and Romney and Santorum will be just another McLame election, and I just cannot support Romney. Santorum might not be quite as bad, however, the establishment will run him like a wide-up clock. Nothing will change and he does not have what it takes to win. Now, you Santorum supporters do not have to barrage me with your negative crap. I know how you feel, you are just misguided and of the belief that Mr. Newt cannot win. You are wrong.
THANKS! I am computer-challenged, so I need all the help that I can get!
Will Newt be the first Presidential Candidate to write THE NATIONAL FUEL TAX HOLIDAY BILL? All he has gotta do is model it after the Payroll Tax Holiday Bill.
The stimulative effect on the Economy will be felt before Newt has finished his introductory statement on THE BILL.
BTW, we really, REALLY should NOT be using our Strategic Petroleum Reserves for Non-Military purposes.
Is it time for Republican Presidential Candidates to demand that the Federal Fuel Tax be removed?
Or should they just wait for Obama to make that announcement?
Will Obama declare a National Fuel Tax Holiday before any Republican Politician mentions it publicly?
FYI Ping.
Gingrich
