--ATK Wins Five-Year, Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity Contract for .40 Caliber Ammunition from DHS, ICE --Additional .40 Caliber Ammunition Contract with 450 Million Round Potential Demonstrates ATK's Leadership in Ammunition Manufacturing

ATK /quotes/zigman/217145/quotes/nls/atk ATK +1.62% announced that it is being awarded an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) agreement from the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (DHS, ICE) for .40 caliber ammunition. This contract features a base of 12 months, includes four option years, and will have a maximum volume of 450 million rounds.

ATK was the incumbent and won the contract with its HST bullet, which has proven itself in the field. The special hollow point effectively passes through a variety of barriers and holds its jacket in the toughest conditions. HST is engineered for 100-percent weight retention, limits collateral damage, and avoids over-penetration.

...ATK will produce the ammunition at the Federal Cartridge Company facility in Anoka, Minn. Deliveries are expected to begin in June

Just what the hell is the Dept. of Homeland Insecurity going to do with 450 million rounds of ammunition?

It looks like they are planning on some major paramilitary operations.Though knowing the Government it would probably take that many rounds to train an individual agent.

A five year contract with thousands of officers qualifying every year. Isn't really that much ammo.

Why does DHS need hollow point rounds for training and practice at target ranges?

450 million JHP rounds, about 2,250 rounds per DHS employee if all were to be sworn in and holstered-up.

Just curious.

Shoot themselves in the leg as they tell us how professional they are? It seems to me they could do that w/ far less than 450million rds tho. Then again they must be poor shots.

That's only 1-1/2 rounds per citizen...Since it's likely that, unless fired by a sniper, 99% of rounds don't hit anyone, it's not that much.

I was curious about the hollow point requirement too. The military can only use FMJ to kill combatants. Why does homeland security think it’s necessary to us hp rounds against... Well agains who? Civilians?

“Civilian Defense Force”? Many H&Ks purchased and previous order of millions of .40 cal needs to be considered.

Not trying to seem belligerent, but you do realize that the Obama administration operates under the “pay to play” system right? “AKA The Chicago Way” This means that only friendly companies to the administration are awarded contracts, which are inflated to allow enought profit for a set amount to be kicked back to the powers that be.

This is not business as usual, or capitalist market forces in action. This is crony capitalism or technically FASCISM.

Iif you're going to imply that ATK is in bed with Obama, post some evidence. My experience with ATK does not show that. Personally, I think you like to trash American businesses.

Well after some research you are correct. Ronald Fogleman is the Chairman of ATK industries. He also happens to be the retired Air Force Chief of Staff that succeeded the disastrous Merril McPeak. He has donated mostly to GOPe candidates and is a typical retired officer pretending to be a businessman while all he really is doing is whoring for the military industrial complex using his connections within the Air Force. A glorified lobbyist basically with a large stock package and a snazzy military retirement on top.

As a coincidence, ATK bought out Hercules (gunpowder manufacturer) that a NG officer I knew worked for as a chemical engineer. They had to have known each other which drives my opinion of both even lower if that’s possible.
