Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- Afghan President Hamid Karzai cast doubt Friday on the account of events given by U.S. authorities as he met with the families of 16 civilians allegedly killed by a U.S. soldier.
In his meeting at the presidential palace in Kabul, Karzai suggested the Americans had not been frank about what happened.
"We tried to talk to the soldier involved, but there was no cooperation from America," Karzai told the villagers. "Based on what you are saying, the killer was not just one person."
The soldier, whose identity has been withheld by U.S. authorities, is accused of leaving a remote combat outpost on foot early Sunday and heading to neighboring village

I find myself in the peculiar position of agreeing with Karzai. It seems that, in fact, information is being withheld here. There may yet be other heads to roll in this matter.
Under the US/Afghan Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) the alleged murderer will probably be tried by an Army Court Martial under the Uniformed Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), probably in the United States. If reports of this being his fourth deployment and having seen a friend killed or wounded the day before, he may have a case for the insanity defense or something along those lines.
How do you leave without passing the guards.
It makes not one whit of difference what Karzai wants, feels, needs, or requests. He doesn’t give a rip about his uncivilized half breed muslim miscreants killing our guys and girls. He is there by the questionable good graces of the USA and he needs to just shut his piehole.
Pull our troups out and let these creatures ROT. The whole middle east would be better off left alone so they can kill each other. Yes, I’m sorry a bunch of innocents got killed by a stressed out GI. But in their world, the women are nothing but meat and the kids are just potential human bombs.

Karzai may think playing this game will save him when we pull out, but it won’t.
Why are we still there defending Karzai, the goat groper? Bring our troops home...TODAY.
You don't. However, another young man became a POW when he walked off post about four or five months ago. His contact with the enemy seemed deliberate.
I’m having troubles here. Two sources...CNN and a Muslim leader.
The trouble is not whether or not they are lying (obviously), the trouble is which one tells the biggest lie at any give time. However, since it’s against us (CNN is NOT us), they had no problems being in agreement this time.
Pull them all out tomorrow and let the Taliban do whatever they want. Then when Karzai calls, hang up on him.
"Based on what you are saying, the killer was not just one person."Oh, yeah -- it was the Mossad, with help from their trained vultures and sharks.
Like anyone believes or cares what karzai says. He has played America for some time. Isn’t it time for an end to his 15 minutes of fame?
Ironically, the alleged perpetrator in this case might be in a very good position from a purely legal standpoint. The U.S. military -- which would prosecute him -- will be forced to buy into a PTSD/"he snapped" defense in order to hide the very real possibility that: (1) the guy didn't act alone, and (2) these were not just random victims, but targeted. Item (2) is an interesting angle that came to mind when I read the report that one guy came home and found eleven of his family members dead. What was the guy doing away from home at night in such a remote, rural area?
We will see if this non commissioned officer will receive the same punishment as Major Nidal Milik Hasan.
“How do you leave without passing the guards.”
If he was already on the outpost, he could easily abandon the post, do the deed and be back without even being noticed. Then, there are the sound of shots being fired. Were they even heard by the US troops?
