As if Rick Santorum's campaign trip to Puerto Rico couldn't get any more cringe-worthy.
The Republican presidential candidate is red-faced after a tourist snapped a less-than-flattering photo of him sunbathing poolside on the island.
"I know I probably should lose, 15, 20 pounds, but I'm working on it," Santorum said during a radio interview on the Steve Cochran Show on Friday, after the flabby photo made the rounds.
The picture was first posted by Buzzfeed.
The former Pennsylvania senator said he snuck some sun in during an hour he had to spare between campaign events ahead of Sunday's primary in Puerto Rico.
Santorum said he was simply trying to "catch a few rays," adding, "I didn't know that anyone was taking a picture of us. I apologize to all of those because I'm sure that's not a pretty sight."
The embarrassing photo comes the same week Santorum came under fire for declaring English would have to be Puerto Rico's official language if the U.S. commonwealth wants to become a state.
He later sought to clarify his remarks.
"Obviously Spanish would be the language here," he told reporters in Puerto Rico on Thursday.
"We understand that you know the people of different cultures speak different languages but we have a common language, and that's what I was saying yesterday,” he added.
Of all times he should have worn a sweater vest-- and a blanket.
And who belongs to that thigh sitting next to him? St. Rick said he would never sit wt any other woman on a couch, other than his wife-- guess it doesn't apply to beach chairs.
He won the woman's vote in Miss and Ala-- too bad this pic didn't come out before then.

I support Newt all the way, but I won’t pick on Santorum for this. The guy was sitting poolside in a tropical country——what did they expect him to do? But of course, a boatload of sodomites had to snap his picture and act like it was some big deal.
Not everybody has a fantastic body like, say, Michelle Obama::::cough::::
Why is he apologizing? It’s not like he did it on purpose FOR the photo. See, it’s a simple thing but I don’t like this “I’m sorry.” stuff.
Has politics become so shallow that something like this carries more weight with political observers than boring things like - oh - integrity? Policy? Beliefs?

I was merely responding to a post that insinuated Newt was far too wise to take his shirt off in public...as though Rick was somehow foolish for having done so.

Yeah, I don’t imagine George Washington and Ben Franklin were exactly hot beach bods, either. Didn’t seem to make a lot of difference to their ability to be statesmen.
Makes you wonder what kind of trivial garbage they would have had to wade through to found the country, if people in their time had idle time to spend on the nonsense of our day.

Relax - the original poster said he was just having a little fun, I sure the Newt picture was posted in the same spirit.
