Peyton Manning has a new home.
Manning will be playing in Denver next season.
This is coming from ESPNs Chris Mortensen.
The Denver Broncos have signed Manning as the legendary quarterback is playing somewhere other than Indianapolis.
The Colts released Manning in early March, which made him the one of the biggest names in NFL free agency history. The Broncos were the first team to get an interview with Manning and they were one of the favorite teams all throughout the process.
The Broncos are taking a chance on Manning. Hes undergone four neck procedures in a short period of time and nobody knows how effective he can be in an actual game. There was a video of him throwing the ball at Duke University, but thats nothing like a real game situation.
The Broncos are also saying that quarterback Tim Tebow is not their guy. I dont see any way Tebow and Manning stay on this team together. This means that Tebow will need to be traded somewhere else, which brings up the question, how valuable is he?
Tebow was able to bring the Broncos back from being one of the worst teams in 2011 and got them in the playoffs. Once they were there, Tebow helped the Broncos win a playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, he did have the worst completion percentage out of any starting quarterback and he doesnt play a traditional style.
It should be interesting to see what happens with Tebow now that Manning is with the Broncos.
Wow, never thought he’d go to snow country, figured he’d want to finish in the climate control.
Well, being the heathen that he is he better get used to being second team there. /s
Wild horses-—couldn’t drag him away. Oh well—he’s keeping his career in the horse family at least.
LOL
...7...6...5...4...3...2...1...
Here they come.
Will he get a GUARANTEED contract?
Hahahahaha...got in early enough to tell them to kiss my butt!
If Alex Smith stays with SF, I could see Miami making a play for Tebow. I wouldn’t mind seeing Tebow come to Cleveland, but he would never fit the West Coast Offense that Holmgren and Shurmur want to run. Gonna be interesting to see where Tebow ends up.
I like the move for both him and the Broncos. Of course, it means my Pats will still see him on occasion (I would have preferred he get banished to Seattle or some team like that who we only see once every few years...)
I try not to get too caught up in all the NFL drama, but I always got the distinct impression that the Broncos never really liked or wanted Tim Tebow. More like he was foisted upon them.
It was obvious that the Broncos never warmed to Tebow and let on as much, albeit just below the threshold. Looks like they may give Tebow the bums rush now.
ESPN is reporting that Denver wants to trade Tebow.
Why shouldn't he not only start for the Broncos, but mentor Tebow to get him truly ready to take over the team in a couple of years?
Only if Elway took too many head hits in his career. No guarantees for a guy coming off his 3rd neck surgery that kept him from playing for an entire season.
Tebow should stay in Denver....a few years under Manning as a mentor is a good thing. Learn from the best and then take over at the helm when the time comes—and it could be a lot sooner than expected.
As well they should. Talent-wise he is barely a practice squad quaterback. I wonder if anyone would be smart enough to move him to tailback where he might be pretty good.
“Wow, never thought hed go to snow country, figured hed want to finish in the climate control.”
I would have thought that too. That said, I hope Peyton’s comeback is a successful one. I never saw a player with a mind like his. He’s given so much to the excitement of the game. I’m a Manning family fan. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him as GM or head coach one day.
Tebow. What now?
Well, good luck to Manning. And in the words of Duke Tumatoe, Lord help our Colts.
BTW, NFL is a big Dem contributor.
I think Tebow’s NFL career would be enhanced by a position change to tight end or slot receiver. If he could learn one of these positions, he’d make a beast of a possession receiver.
Allow me to make a slight clarification.
The Broncos head office and coach never liked Tebow. The fans love him.
As a first rounder Tim isn’t making backup money. He probably isn’t going to want to be on the bench into his second contract (which would certainly see a MAJOR pay cut since he’d be a backup). And he’d be 27 if Manning did 3 more years, not really a good fresh start age.
I agree 100%. I should also let the front office know that I am SIGNIFICANTLY less excited as a fan with Manning that I am with Tebow.
I'll guess and say they riff on him next week, (or perhaps the last epi of the Spring season).
I think I'll wait for the epi to find out all I don't want to know about this particular Manning.
Tebow is likely on his way out of Denver but I can envision a series of plays with Manning and Tebow in the same backfield.
Yes, I think you are right.
Wow! Shocked. Would have thought he’d go to the Jets. But he probably didn’t want to be in ny with Eli.
Hope he stays healthy.
Anyway, Go Pats!
Ok, So they are benching a young QB who took a 1-5 team to the second round of the play-offs and who makes money for the team in merchandising and tickets sales hand-over-fist (As ecidenced by the inability to find a Tebow jersey around Christmas last year) in favor of an older quarterback who is one hard hit away from eating a steak through a straw. Yeah, that’s freaking brilliant. I hope that Tebow’s next team appreciates him and that the Broncos go 0-12.
Where are all the folks who will claim that Manning was signed because Denver hates Tebow's PDFs (public displays of faith) or that Elway doesn't want to be upstaged or something?
I’m really surprised at this. Manning’s record inside a dome is far better than in open air. And Denver, in Nov, Dec, and Jan.is COLD....snow...lots of it...takes a toll on an older body..and when you get hit by a 300lb lineman in 10degree temp..it hurst a LOT more than in Florida..
As a lifelong Browns fan -- please, no!
Colt's not the long-term answer but neither is Tebow. I'm not the first to say Jacksonville is the most likely destination for Tebow.
Unfortunately, the styles and talents of these two are diametrically opposed. Peyton is the classic dropback quarterback with incredibly accuracy, and he only runs as a last resort. Tebow is about as inaccurate as Manning is accurate. He has an unconventional throwing motion that will never be confused with that of a pure thrower like Peyton.
On the plus side, Tebow is very big, very strong, and highly motivated. he would make an excellent change-of-pace QB, who could be brought in for wildcat formations. His running ability makes him very tough to stop in third (or fourth) down and short yardage to go. He could even be utilized as an H-back or tight end, to take advantage of his size and power.
Tebow I think goes to Miami or Jacksonville (who should have drafted him in the first place), where he will play very exciting games winning with mediocre stats, putting butts in seats though not sniffing a ring.
“Why shouldn’t he not only start for the Broncos, but mentor Tebow to get him truly ready to take over the team in a couple of years?”
I was thinking the same thing.
With Denver’s soggy offensive line, Manning will be in a chin-controlled wheelchair within a month!
.
This Bronco fan is seriously bummed. Trade the future for the possibility of one or two years? Tebow made football I. This town actually fun to watch for the first time in a decade. Let’s hope the broncos do the right thing and use the manning years to develop Tebow.
Because John Fox and John Elway don't like Tebow as a quarterback. Elway know signing Manning was the only way he could get rid of Tebow without a public relations disaster.
It would be justice if he ends up becoming a Pro Bowler somewhere else.
I agree with everything you said. I would like to add I hope that piece of work Elway gets run out of town for good when Tebow leads his next team for the next dozen years or so and we (broncos) are back to suffering through years of retreads and also rans.....
Why not? The Browns are one of the most boring teams in the NFL. Tebow would inject a little of excitement and Thas a better chance of becoming a good quarterback than McCoy.
I can’t remember a front office ever appearing to be so hostile to a starting quarterback in my life. You have players beating up wives and girlfriends, you have people getting arrested on gun charges and brought up on murder charges and getting caught soliciting hookers the ngiht before the Super Bowl, setting bounties on injuring opposing players and that’s cool. But let Tebow bow his head to God after winning a game, well, they don’t tolerate that kind of behavior in the NFL.
Tebow ruined their plan to go 1 and 15, and then draft Andrew Luck.
One of the reasons certainly must be Elway couldn’t stand being near the Light inside Tebow after his sordid and pathetic life. Darkness always had and always will hate the Light all Christians carry with them
And with some Luck, that the Colts go 20-0...
Why not? Because Tebow is a pretty crummy NFL QB.
But, hey, if it would only cost a 6th round pick or something then go for it.
Yep, heard that too.
Denver is not that cold, it doesn’t snow that much (I lived there) and John Elway won 2 Super Bowls there when he was older that Manning.
Or maybe he just likes his QB to have a completion percentage over 50.
