An Illinois father of three faces a potential $750 fine and possible criminal charges after he pulled over to ask two teenage girls if they needed a ride during a snow storm on March 2, 2012. Rodney Peterson says he was simply trying to be a good Samaritan by trying to help the girls, not harm them. Peterson says he saw two young girls, ages 13, leave a Shell gas station in the Barrington, Illinois area on cold wintery day without coats, umbrellas or hoods. He said he pulled over and asked them how far they were walking and they just waved him on and he obliged. He told CBS Chicago that his actions were a case of, a good deed gone wrong.
Petersons wife of 12 years, who is also pregnant with their fourth child said that the act was misinterpreted.
The Petersons fully understand why the girls called police. The girls claimed the offer made them uncomfortable, but what the Petersons dont understand, is why the Barrington police are charging him.
The Barrington police defend their actions however. They say he should have called police to offer the girls a ride if he felt they were in danger. They say both girls were alarmed and disturbed by Petersons actions. Peterson is due in court some time today.
I have been Old Uncle to several generations of kids in my parish, have taught confirmation class without another adult in attendance; I give rides home to stranded kids, and sit with them and with grandmothers after events when their rides are late. I have taken kids to piano lessons and home. I am conscious of the possibilities that would normally pertain but this is a Vietnamese parish and they are not so Americanized yet that I fear those possibilities. I do NOT offer aid or protection to anyone outside this community or my family.
This ordinance only applies to White people in ObamHolder world.
That is so sad, but I understand exactly where you are coming from.
On the other hand I see another phenomena occurring, and partly because of that attitude, there are far more parents at games and practices than there were in the past. That I think is a good thing. Occasionally we share off with the parents of some of my daughter's friends, but generally we're all there.
If you hear of the final disposition, please ping me to it.
“Or their parents are hyperventillating liberals who overreact at the slightest provocation (I’d bet on this one - “Yeah Mom, this old guy tried to give us a ride home....” and they’re off to the races.)”
I have seen the crazies libs do just about everything, at one time or another.
I once saw two women pushing a baby carriage in icy weather along a road that was between two towns. It didn’t appear to me that there were any nearby residences, so I was concerned they, especially the baby, might freeze on what was bound to be long walk. So, knowing that my efforts to be a good Samaritan would probably be misinterpreted, I offered them a ride which they turned down. Still think I did the right thing.
Motorist Pleads Guilty To Disorderly Conduct After Offering Lift To Teen Girls
No good deed goes unpunished.
I read the article about his guilty plea, and the facts alleged by the police, if true, make it more likely that they guy had more than interest in their safety in mind, and merits some investigation of him. HOWEVER, until they make it a crime for an adult to offer a ride to a juvenile, what this guy did is still not a crime, and he should not have been charged. It would have been ok for the parents to get a restraining order against him, but there was no criminal act as far as I can see.
Looks like child protective services could now grab his kids. I will never offer a stranger a ride again!
Why has no one posted a photo of the guy so that the women of FR could determine his guilt or innocence?

The bad news, if you haven’t heard it yet, is that the national pedofile hysteria virus has infected this very forum as well.
And the girls certainly did the right thing by not getting in the car with a stranger. Back in the 60s, we, both boys and girls were taught never to get in a car with a stranger.
It is a sad commentary on our times when assuming the worst is the prudent course.
The real villains of the situation are not the police but predatory minority who cast suspicions on an innocent majority.
Sad but all too true. You also see many men leery of volunteering for anything that has to do with children, be it Little League coach, Scout leader or even just having friends of your children over your house or in your car. The potential liability is just too great. Just one false accusation of anything improper will utterly destroy your life - and some of the kids are savvy enough to know it too.
Glad my kids were of a different generation and are grown up now.
There does seem to be a shift from the prudent caution of the old days to a PC blanket suspicion of males as potential predators. Another fruit of the hyper-secular society beloved of the left.
It’s not yet a crime to act creepy. That seems to be what the guy did, if the police are to be believed.
>>>The real lesson is, if you are a man, never help a woman or child.<<<
Soon to be: Never be alone with a woman or child who is not of your immediate family. And even then be prepared to record the proceedings.
What a way to live......
