Wife of Staff Sgt. Robert Bales' (releases) statement
KiroTV ^ | 19 Mar 12 | Karilyn Bales

Posted on 03/19/2012 4:15:37 PM PDT by xzins

Karilyn Bales, whose husband, Staff Sgt. Robert Bales is accused of killing Afghan civilians, released this statement on Monday:

What happened on the night of March 11 in Kandahar Province was a terrible and heartbreaking tragedy.

My family including my and Bob’s extended families are all profoundly sad. We extend our condolences to all the people of the Panjawai District, our hearts go out to all of them, especially to the parents, brothers, sisters and grandparents of the children who perished.

I know that all good people around the world, regardless of nationality, religion or political values, join me in grieving that such a terrible thing could happen.

Our family has little information beyond what we read and see in the media. What has been reported is completely out of character of the man I know and admire. Please respect me when I say I cannot shed any light on what happened that night, so please do not ask.

I too want to know what happened. I want to know how this could be.

I have no indication that my family’s own safety is at risk, but I appreciate the efforts that have been undertaken to protect us. I hope there will soon be no reason for protection of families, whether here or in Kandahar Province, or anywhere, because the pain inevitably inflicted in war should never be an excuse to inflict yet more pain. The cycle must be broken. We must find peace.

I know the media has a right to pursue and report news. As you do your jobs, I plead with you to respect the trauma that I and my extended family are experiencing. Please allow us some peace and time as we try to make sense of something that makes no sense at all.

All I can do now is emphasize my sadness and my condolences to the families in Panjawai for their terrible loss. The victims and their families are all in my prayers, as is my husband who I love very much.

End of Statement

“We must wonder if she is sending a message about the “protection” she is receiving.”

I doubt very much that she would be getting any...

We can be sure any statements released to the public by the wife or family have been and will be carefully composed by the family's lawyers. Nothing will go out that isn't carefully crafted and vetted by sharp legal-eagle eyes.

Behind the facade, the wife is undoubtedly terrified for her husband and their future. Her whole world is collapsing around her.

It's heartbreaking. You can imagine Sgt. Bales family and friends are broken, grieving, ill and apprehensive.

They deserve our sympathy and prayers.

Huh? Considering how the accused violated General Order #1 by consuming alcohol in a war zone, went AWOL off of his lightly manned FOB (thus putting his fellow soldiers at risk) and proceeded to murder unarmed men, women & children, the issue of ROE’s is superfluous.

You have no idea if any of what you just wrote is even true.

I had a soldier one night don camo, paint his face, and prowl our base because he believed he was a Delta operative.

Turns out it was some kind of adult onset psychosis.

I had another, a sergeant first class, who had an angel in a tree tell him to take over the preaching in a church that was meeting down the road. He walked in and tried to take over.

Again...adult onset psychosis.

What should we have done with them?

When that prick who massacred troops at Ft. Hood hangs, then they can string up Mr. Bales right along side.

Until then, lets back off on the calls to hang this psycho, we would all be a lot better off here in the west if the muhammadans were extinct.

________

Sure, I was Navy and we would search the ship high and low when someone didn’t show up when they were supposed to. In this case, if someone saw him leave the base, they would send a search party out after him as well.

“What should we have done with them?”

1) Disarmed them
2) Removed them from the battle space under guard
3) Hospitalization

Keeping them in the FOB, armed, should be considered dereliction of duty.

Meanwhile, considering how the accused, when he straggled back on to base, surrendered, refused to answer questions & “lawyered up,” am somewhat skeptical of the psycho defense.

I can assure you that is not the case. Protection only. The media wolves that have surrounded their off base house and her work place proved it to be the right move.

Presumption of innocence aside, why shouldn’t they hang both for cold blooded murder? What difference is there between the two??

This man and his family deserve our support and sympathy. From all I have heard and read, he should never have been returned to battle.

An adult would be in the war to win it, and not to tie our soldier’s hands with outrageous rules of engagement.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Obama wants our fine troops to crack from over posting them.Thats a plus on his balance sheet. He wants a reason to exit Afghanistan with a taste of defeat in the mouths of our soldiers. Our army is just an instrument of oppression of minorities, according to the Ralph Wright liberation theology , of which Obama is a chief subscriber.

Obama avoids making a decison on policy. He withdraws Afghanistan ostensibly because our own military is at fault.

The rift is clear. Penetta was so skittish he recently asked that US Marines be disarmed in his presence in Afghanistan.

Our military is paying the price of Obamas personal theology and apologetic foolishness. Its a grift, a fascist grift, just as Gun Runner was in Arizona and New Mexico.Obama needs to be keel hauled in November.

It has Alinsky written all over it.

From your screen name I can tell you are one of those “goat guys” IE; a rag sympathizer...

The fact is; you know nothing of what went on. There’s nothing that’s more “special” about killing them than there is about them killing our brave men and women in combat. My vote would be to pull out and nuke the country killing all of them. Yes, that includes women and children... War is Hell.

When we exceed the number of innocents killed in 9-11, ping me...

I think we’re going to find that Robert Bales was not as squeaky clean as some reports.

His stock firm was judged guilty of unauthorized trading in a client account. Bales was hit with a #1.4 million judgement as a result. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted.

Color me dubious about this guy.

Oh, today he says he does not remember a thing.

Today, he says he has no memory of the night.

Also, now we learn he had a $1.4 million dollar judgement against him just before he enlisted.

Actually, I’d be inclined to give the soldier the benefit of the doubt and consider him innocent until proven guilty.

I’ve listened to those rights read to troops and they really do say “anything you say can AND WILL be used AGAINST you.”

So, I would also lawyer up right away. I would NEVER talk to CID. Ever. Or write or sign any statement. I would never advise any soldier to do so.

ROTFLMAO! Yeah because we’re going to win the war by murdering Afghani kids. Any other grand strategies you got up your sleeve there General?

The facts are not all in yet. You are curiously hard on this soldier. Why?

Do you not think that he should be given a little due process just as the Fort Hood Assassin was by Obama and his little command puppets? At least?
I say the jury is still out on this one , Cabron. Stay your hand for a few months yet.
