Did not see a thread started for tonight. About 50 mintues before polls close.
Tonight, it's important to keep track of the actual delegate count. Even though Romney will likely be projected the winner within 30 minutes, the delegate math will what's important.
Romney has solid leads in the 7 CD's in Northern IL/Around Chicago. These total about 19 Delegates
3 Congressional Districts covering North/Mid state are too close to call. These total about 9 Delegates.
Santorum's got the edge in the Downstate 8 Congressional Districts. These total about 26 Delegates.
Depending on how the 3 CD's swing, it is possible that Santorum could lose the popular vote, significantly, and yet still walk away with a split of the delegates.
Romney 45-46% Santorum 35-36% Gingrich 8-9% Paul 6-7%
OK, thanks. That's a worthy conservative cause. I should have included Bachman, she's taken major arrows for us the last few years.
None of these guys is perfect but to bitch about either Newt or Santorum is stupidly counter-productive.
I agree. If one were to check my posting history, I never said a word about Gingrich until a couple of days ago (actually I rarely post at all...once every few months) even though I've been pro-Santorum since Cain self-destructed. A couple of Gingrich supporters doing victory laps on a Romney win caused me to question their loyalty to our cause.
If Romney wins the White House, at least he will be mildly conservative at first, which will give us time to start a whole new party to start weeding out the GOPE who control Washington.
It will take at least 4 years to get a party out of the planning stages. Such a movement will also strike fear into the rest of the RINOs now in office.
Does anyone know how Don Manzullo is doing? He was gerry-mandered out of my district. He is a solid Christian conservative.
My county 100% reporting and we kicked Romney’s butt by more than double. I can be happy about one thing tonight at least.
Last I checked, Kinzinger was up around 60-40%. I’m surprised. Tea Party worked hard to get him elected the first time. But he has been a disappointment.....
So why does Santorum beat Romney heads up among both sets of conservatives, except where the vote is too split. He then loses the liberal vote. Romney is winning states where the LDS or liberal vote (from cross-overs) overwhelm that.
I know what you mean by the lemmings. There is an 11% group in the polls that keeps shifting to whomever is ahead. Since Romney’s campaign and Newt’s PAC started savaging Santorum, that 11% seems to have finally settled on Romney. If Santorum could ever pull back ahead in the polls, he could go into the convention with the most delegates.
All delegates in Illinois are unbound:
That bugs me as well. I kind of wonder if they are real Gingrich supporters.
Final gap between Romney and Santorum: ~100,000 votes. Difference in Cook and Cook Suburbs: ~100,000 votes.
If you think that the republican party is too liberal, please don’t start a new party. I hope that, instead, you’ll join the Constitution Party, a conservative party that was founded in 1999. I voted for five of their candidates, two for president, two for the U.S. Senate, and one for governor.
