The White House said Tuesday afternoon that President Obama’s older daughter Malia was unharmed by a 7.4-magnitude earthquake that shook Mexico, where she was traveling on a school trip.

“In light of today’s earthquake, we can confirm that Malia Obama is safe and was never in danger,” said Kristina Schake, communications director for First Lady Michelle Obama.

The quake struck the Oaxaca region of Mexico at 12:02 local time, according to the US Geological Service, and spread over roughly 10 miles.

Spring breaks are for college students... not 13 year olds.

It's OK. She can always get an abortion.

You really have to wonder why this guy would broadcast over and over where his daughter is.

I said “personal attacks” on the children because they will get yanked and besides we have enough to slam Obama on just for them going.

I have no idea what kind of school would allow a trip to a country on the travel advisory list?

They might as well have gone to Afghanistan.

strangely enough, there was a guy on FR telling of a major earthquake on march 22 in roughly the same area

this was the original link... now dead:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2861294/posts

i don’t think it was the major event he predicted (a 5 degree shift in the axis), but still a significant event.

could it be a warm up?

It's funny how the article never mentions that it's the Obama administration that issued the travel advisory that they just ignored themselves.

Ignored? Heck, it was an effective way of sweeping the travel destination clean of debris-- er I mean regular American tourists.

I read that it is a “school service project.” What kind of service project? Are these 13 year old privileged American school children doing the work that Mexicans won’t do? OR why are these children doing service projects in Mexico when they come from a city that is full of poverty and run-down projects. They could walk around the corner from the US Capitol building and find embarrasing slums that could use with some improvement. They could mentor some impoverished American children who are relegated to the worst schools in America. But it is probably too dangerous to let these children loose in DC.

From Travel Warning Mexico posted by U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE, Bureau of Consular Affairs on February 08, 2012.

Oaxaca: No warning is in effect.

I was being tongue in cheek - all initial reportage was that her trip (taking her friends along) was for spring break.

After what I’m sure was considerable fall-out once the public got wind of it, the WH is now calling it a “school trip”.

As I said, wonder when will we hear more details.

(crickets :-)

Kind of strange that Oaxaca is a major drug supply route from Central America.

Tomorrow the media will be calling it a “Listening Tour”.

By Friday, they will announce his daughter is running for the Senate.

A very good friend of mine was killed in Oaxaca back in hte day, 1975. Evidently, there was a disagreement over payment of something.

Good for you. We didn’t go on Spring breaks either. We hung out at home and helped around the house as we prepared for the summer. We lived in a place where EVERYONE worked during the summer months to make their money for the following school year. Poor us, no spring break. It really affected us... NOT!!!
