No link yet. I'm just seeing it on CNN. Reuters said Fox called it as well.

It’s not going to be Rubio. It is going to be Susana Martinez. She is seen as less controversial by the GOP-E and she appeals to more demographics (Mexican Hispanics and women).

Rubio MAY-—MAY get a cabinet post. But that’s it.

"so why bash a conservative man like Santorum just because he was doing better in the polls?"

Because Santorum is an idiot and Gingrich is not.

If Free Republic morphs into a supportive site for Romney, I'll conclude my 13 year participation

I sincerely believe JR will not go there.

But, I do agree, although I'd get great satisfaction out of being banned instead of resigning.

If I recall correctly, Santorum was not on the ballot in six congressional districts in IL.

I heard that the Newt delegates from those CD's said they'd be Rick's delegates too if he won there.

He wasn’t on the ballot in my district.

Try not to panic. Ok, which primary is next? Is Illinois proportional or winner take all?

What do we have left?

Newt had to know this was coming.

What was the vote split?

Levin was on saying turnout was PITIFUL. Way to go GOP!

““The problem is that Romney is a little too liberal for the Republican base. But that’s the only way you can win. You’ve got to get the independents.” - Norm Jay, 78, from Wheaton who voted for Romney.”

Thinking a ?moderate? Republican can win the General, is a misconception that some people make.

I wish I could ask them how did McCain do in 2008? McCain was the nominee because of the Independent and Dem votes in the early Open primaries, but it didn’t help him win the presidency..

ah, I see.

And yet for all the brilliance that Newt supposedly has, he never figured out how to campaign for the “idiot” voters, who it appears clearly now make up a majority of the Republican Party.

It’s time to admit the obvious. Conservatism is in the minority. Even if we make up 40% and liberals make up 21%, the squishy 39% of Moderates that don’t want to be called “liberal” are still liberals.

It’s ridiculous. The GOP under the current nominating rules will never be able to elect a conservative...again. The moderate/RINO will always out perform in the cities and suburbia, then get crushed in the same areas in the General Election.

According to them, if you supported Newt, you are a secret Romney supporter, pretending to take down Saint Rick to help Newt.

But really,.........They all know your REAL motive, the super secret plot to get Romney elected all along. The accusations are beginning to flow like Spring sewage already!

Well, the Romneybots signed up on this forum who have kept their heads low, but then ramped it up and endlessly bashed Rick Santorum,

So true. Sort of surprised the moderator allowed the continual negative toxic comments from these guys, horrible. Probably did their share of damage on various boards. People can only take so much of that crap and they give up.

“This is typical of how the Liberal RINO’s win; they can’t carry the Conservative voters, they carry the parasites”

Romney supported bailing out Wall Street. I wonder how many of his rich buddies contributed to his pac?

Going to be a lot of poor losers after tonight. Best to just let them "marinate" in the vinegar of their misery. Tomorrow the caravan moves on.

Krauthammer just said that he believes the ticket will be Romney/Rubio.

Rubio is a Romney in training; i.e. flexible as circumstances require, and I think Krauthammer has correctly predicted this most predictable outcome. I'll go back to sleep now.

Hasn't been an election in the 20th or 21st century won by pulling in the Independents.

The way you do this is you hold your base and peel off one of the other party's factions.

Currently the YOUTH VOTE is up for grabs. Bammy had it. He blew it. They haven't had employment for the last four years.

They are NOT looking for Leftwingtard solutions, and that's all Romney has to offer.

Romney demonstrated a decided inability to draw in the Republican base.

As in Virginia, they stayed away from the primary. Just didn't go there.

It is entirely possible that Romney is the ONLY Republican candidate who can't actually beat Obama.

Newt is a lazy and weak campaigner who had little going for him other than a few debates. He has not run a good campaign, picks and chooses states(wow, whatta fighter)and he is also broke.

Couple that with a seedy reputation and it is easy to see why he went nowhere.

Talk about an idiot.

The RNC should have assisted the candidates in getting through all state qualification standards. The Democrats do that.

Priebus has let us all down. We need him out of there ~ NOW!

I’m familiar with the argument, and aware that accusations are flying. Very silly. Rick’s demise has nothing to do with “Newt supporters that are really closet Romney supporters”. He is a deeply flawed candidate. He’s had more Doh! moments than I can ever remember any candidate having.

LOL! “Venting” a bit, are we? I hardly think that attacking Newt matters a whole lot, and Newt certainly could care less what you think about him.

He will do quite well after this election, in various ways.
