Survey: Rick Santorum Has Sizable Lead Over Mitt Romney Heading Into Saturday's La. Primary March 20, 2012

Jonathan Tilove

WASHINGTON -- Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum has a significant lead over former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in Louisiana heading into Saturday's primary, according to a survey conducted Monday by a Republican polling firm.

According to the survey of 2,018 likely Republican voters conducted by Magellan Strategies BR, and not paid for by any campaign or political organization, Santorum was leading Romney by 13 points -- 37 percent to 24 percent, with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, right behind Romney with 24 percent.

(snip)

According to the survey, if Gingrich were not in the race, 61 percent of his support would go to Santorum, and only 22 percent to Romney. In a one-on-one contest, Santorum would defeat Romney by 21 points -- 55 to 34 percent with 11 percent undecided.

According to the poll, without Gingrich in the race, Santorum's lead skyrockets to 21 points.

We need to unite and fight Romney. He needs to have his coronation stopped.

If Ricky were running for Jeff Davis’ job, this’d be great news! Unfortunately, he’s running for Barack Obama’s position!

I am just glad that Romney is below 50 percent tonight. Also only 600K out of 12 million voted in Illinois? That is the big problem that needs addressed.

It's a 3-man race in LA now and some of Santorum's support could shift to either/both Romney and Gingrich.

Nothing suppresses a vote more than then belief of loss.

Rick Santorum usually wins in the conservative states; Romney wins in the liberal states.

Why is that? LOL

Right now - Rick has 35% to Romney’s 47% in IL, that’s pretty impressive. He’ll have some tailwind even if not a victory...

If Willard hadn’t pumped millions of dollars in attack ads against other Republican candidates, he would be toast. You Mitt-Bots must be very proud of him.

Have you noticed Romney trails by double-digits every week before every primary and in most cases comes away with a double-digit win? Say what you want (and I am no fan), but that is a talent. Santorum has proven he cannot close the deal. Santorum ought to drop out and stop taking votes away from Gingrich.

You ain’t a kiddin’....

Jesse Jackass Junior won with over 50,000 votes, the Republican challenger won his primary with fewer than 10,000 votes.

It doesn’t matter much, because Louisiana has so few delegates, and they are all “unbound” to the convention, but to the degree you trust the selection of delegates, the goal in Louisiana is to keep ROmney below 25%, which is the cutoff for proportional assignment.

So in this case, we want Gingrich to stay in the race, and to take a few percent from Romney.

What isn’t helpful is Gingrich taking votes from Santorum, if it helps Romney get over 25%. If Romney ends up below 25%, conservatives win.

Your comment is a pathetic snide comment .
What’s your point outside of making a snide comment about my family’s state which you know nothing about.
Odd how you leave the real enemy Mittens alone ?
