The Marine Corps Times previews its cover story about anti-Obama Marines at their 'Battle Rattle' blog.
According to the article, of the 792 active-duty troops and mobilized reservists who responded to this year's Military Times Poll, 44 percent said that they disapprove of the way Obama is handling his job as commander in chief.
The article cites hot button issues such as repeal of "don't ask, don't tell," relaxing restrictions of women in combat, and steep budget cuts, behind the disapproval numbers.
The report highlights the recent controversy over a Tea Party Facebook page operated by active Marine Sgt. Gary Stein.
The full article is available only to Marine Times subscribers.

Only 44%???
We in the Corps are quite leery of “polls” and are loathe to voice disention against the President. So these numbers are not unexpected. Further, they may be holding Congress accountable (rightly so) but not realizing how this President has undermined national distrust as well as international discontent that is helping to drive our dollar lower and prices on imports higher.
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Speaking as a child of the military, that 44% of MARINES show or admit any sign of disagreement or rebellion against Dear Reader is serious business. The US military is not made of refusniks or rebellious souls.
Someone needs to post the front of the paper..have no idea how to do it
It is probably only 44% because most feared that if they responded to the poll that somehow they could be identified and punished.
This is the same response and reasons that I see in low participation in polls about morale, admin, etc where I work.
I would guess that the percentage in the Corps and other services is much higher than most anyone would suspect.
dissension
I see...
Well, if the SHTF I hope those 44% and their buddies will help us in our battle.
Guess who won’t be getting their absentee ballots on time this election year?
The Marine’s job isn’t to question whether the CiC, or Congress is “doing a good job”, his is to follow lawful orders, plain and simple. That comes from a 10 year Marine Veteran, so I don’t say that non-nonchalantly.
Here’s what the poll proves, at least to me. Many military members are starting to understand that the current CiC, and his regime are at odds with what they are supposed to defend. Every one of them took the following oath, upon enlistment:
“I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God. “
They are beginning to understand that obama and crew are not playing by the same rules and understanding of what America is as they are. There are the first real and true inklings, that they may have to actually decide whether the man, or regime issuing orders is Constitutionally and/or morally qualified to do so.
These questions are WAY outside the scope of “is he doing a good job”. The fact that 44% would openly question the CiC, is very telling. This will lead to a lot of turmoil in the near future, if obama is re-elected and/or the liberals continue down the path they’ve set for America’s future.
Just my two cents.
My thoughts exactly when I saw this. I believe it is artificially slanted due to this.
Thanks for your service, FRiend.
Well said.
Those who have taken that oath, especially us on FR who have, understand it is a binding contract.
To a large portion of America and the politicians who hold office, the oath they took isn’t worth a cup of warm spit to them.
soetoro works to destroy the military as as does the country.
But much appreciated. I ran across this quote in my files the other day and it dovetails with you're assessment of our situation:
"We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution."Abraham Lincoln
Good post!
Please pull my post.
I did not realize it was a Gannett Publication.
thnx
Oh, good grief! Abraham Lincoln of the denial of habeas corpus and institution of an income tax?
Me too. I’m shocked. I go to church with about 10 other military retired guys. NONE of them support Obama. That is 100% against.
You probably don’t like any of the things King David said in Scripture, either, just because he committed adultery with another man’s wife and had the man basically murdered to cover it up. Do you?
Don’t answer...I don’t care. God said he was a man after His own heart and that settles it.
No problem at all.
As soon as the Socialist-In-Chief has his “civilian corps” in place (funded and manned equally with the real military - don’t you remember?) this “old” military will be deemed homophobic and illegal, and will be disbanded.
Then we will all be properly protected by the OWS & NBP goons who are currently in what amounts to boot camp for their future positions in The O-Corps.
Lucky us!
What? What on earth are you replying to?
Right on! Yes, that Abe Lincoln; but, be prepared for the Church of Lincoln members.
ALL VOLUNTEER!!!
Speaks volumes all by itself...
Any disagreement with the “civilian authority” will start at the top of this organization, because respect goes both ways...
The buildup of nonsense is reaching critical mass...
The bottom may fall out of this and retainment levels will disentegrate...
My nephew, who just hit the ground over there last week, told me they are forcing senior non-coms to take an early out at 15 years (if I understood him correctly)...Promotions are very hard to come by, as the selection process is tightened...Sure, you may have tons of qualified people to promote, but if the slots are not available due to the downsizing...
That “civilian authority” policy obviously creates negative retainment issues...
I had no idea. Wow.
thanks, a great quote from one of our greatest, God fearing, conservatives, who, i believe, was not second in his love and reverence for the Constitution, and it’s framers.
i’m not surprised. i’m sure most in the military, as conservatives, realize the man who lawfully commands them is simultaneously stretching them thin and hollowing them out as he would his chief enemy.
i believe that most in the military are conservative from personal experience, being the son of an ex-marine and air force msgt, but i also infer this logically as a defining traits of conservatism is self-sacrifice for God, country and family.
You took the time to scoff at my Lincoln quote in post #20, yes? I took the time to show youvia an analogy I figured was obviouswhat I thought about it.
End of item.
It made more sense when you said that you weren’t going to reply.
I guess your intent was only to insult and not explain your prior odd comment.
You sure you were replying to my comment? Nevermind, please don’t answer...
Lady, YOU insulted Lincoln re: a quote I shared to someone ELSE. I never posted to you in the first place so play your "Nobody in here but us chickens" routine on someone else. I don't have to know a thing about you to know you (or any other FReeper) are not worthy to diss Abraham Lincoln (who, like King David before him, was flawed but still considered worthy by God).
Just wow. Good luck to you, and hope you get that big ol’ beam out of your eye.
If you don't like confrontation why are you posting on the Forum, to people who did not post to you? I went straight for the heart of your unsolicited remark* because it was scoffing. I'm not about to take lessons in humility from some modern lady who thinks she's up to assessing/dismissing the likes of Abraham Lincoln. And then speaks of beams!
*Oh, good grief! Abraham Lincoln of the denial of habeas corpus and institution of an income tax?SuzyQue the Humble, post #20
I’m ok with confrontation. Why would you think otherwise?
I don’t like it when people post odd and apparently irrelevant and accusatory statements and then not only refuse to explain what it is they’re trying to say, but instead making accusatory and downright silly responses.
I do like clarity. You don’t. It’s a draw.
Oh, and don’t alter my words and then quote the altered version as if it were something that I had written. Very uncool.
What we have here is a failure to communicate. No point in disagreeing any longer because I think we've each missed the other's meaning. I took your post 20 in a certain way and reacted constructing a house apparently built on sand. My intention was standing up for Lincoln; I'm hair-trigger when it comes to moderns slagging the men who took our country through perilous times. I apologize for the barbs and unmerciful stance. Take care.
No need to stand up for Lincoln. He was what he was, and I hope I treat his memory fairly.
You take care too. It’s trying times right now.
