Finally, Romney gets tea party support
The Washington Times ^ | March 19, 2012 | Ralph Z. Hallow

Posted on 03/21/2012 9:41:01 AM PDT by RobinMasters

The organization that ignited the tea party as a national mass movement gave Mitt Romney perhaps his biggest victory yet, deciding to drop its opposition to his candidacy, a top executive in the group told The Washington Times.

FreedomWorks, which organized the Sept. 12, 2009, mass demonstration on the Mall, says that while it will not give an explicit endorsement, the time has come for Republicans to unite around the former Massachusetts governor and focus on defeating President Obama.

“It is a statistical fact that the numbers favor Mitt Romney,” FreedomWorks Vice President Russ Walker told The Times on Tuesday. “We are dedicated to defeating Obama and electing a conservative Senate that will help Romney repeal Obamacare and address the nation’s economic and spending challenges.”

Mr. Romney has been winning a majority of delegates and has more than twice the number that former Sen. Rick Santorum has, and he continued that run Tuesday with a victory in Illinois.

I say let the shit hit the fan sooner. Let Obama have his second term if the alternative is having McRomney foisted upon us.

Agree. Better Romney than Obama any day of the week. Four more years of Obama and with major lifetime Supreme Court appointments and the rest of the federal judicairy, we are cooked if Obama is re-elected. The old adage is true, never cut off your nose to spite your face.

Problem is, that Romney can't win.

Obama and his minions in the MSM will utterly destroy Romney if he is the nomnee. His Progressive Liberal record coupled with his continual lying will provide them with more than enough ammunition for Obama to easily win POTUS again.

Romney's record:

1. Supported and forced Gay Adoption on children in MA.
2. Supported and implemented Gay Marriage
3. Supported the Brady Bill
4. Implemented an "Assault" Weapons Ban in MA AFTER the Federal AWB had been allowed to expire.
5. Supports Global Warming
6. Supported a Cap-and-Trade program for MA.
7. Supported TARP.
8. Supported Amnesty for Illegal ALiens (Pathway to citizenship).
9. Implemented Socialistic HealthCare in MA called RomneyCare complete with $50 Abortions and an Individual Mandate.

Romney's a dead-man walking.

We can either insure Obama’s re-election or we can hold our noses and vote for idiot Romney

I will never hold my nose again and vote for the likes of Romney. I'll write in Sarah Palin first. And if Obama wins again, then the country gets what it deserves. Period.

Let me repeat---NO MORE NOSE HOLDING!

It’s looking more and more like we’re going to be stuck with Romney.

From your mouth to the toilet bowl; just the thought makes me wanna hurl.

If -- like 2008 -- 2012 turns into another choice between bulls**t and chicken s**t I just don't know whether I can pull the lever at all.

Heads, they win; tails we lose. You vote one way, the Dems win. You vote the other way, America, The Constitution, and Conservatism all lose. That's a real choice -- how?

We are stuck with Romney or Obama. Make your choice. I still would rather hit the wall at 70mph rather than at 140mph.

Your problem, and others like you, is that you falsely believe that Romney has a chance at winning.

His Progressive Liberal record says otherwise.

He doesn't have a chance in hell of winning with his record. It will be used by Obama and the MSM to literally destroy his candidacy.

You're proposing that we vote throw away our vote.

Sadly, much, if not most of the tea party has always been behind Romney proving the Tea Party wasn’t what we thought it was, or failed to educate. The truth is, Sarah Palin needed to step up and lead the movement, she chose not to, so it’s failing. Not blaming her, just stating the facts ...

But if our choice is between th devil and the deep blue sea, I’ll take the latter and pray to God. We can’t have Obama and derailing Romney at this point is all but impossible. I'm convinced that first order for the GOP rank and file should be a reform of how delegates are allocated.

A big part of the problem is the delegate selection process which over weighs a state's population versus the likelihood they will actually vote for the GOP candidate.

This cycle, there are 2286 delegates to be chosen. Just to pick a random example or two: the District of Columbia gets to pick 19 delegates, North Dakota gets 28. The probability of them actually delivering 3 electoral votes for the eventual GOP nominee is something like 90% for North Dakota and less than 0% for DC.

Every state or territory should start with the number of delegates they would get based on their electoral vote power. There would be a minimum of 3 for every territory except maybe 7 for Puerto Rico which would be its equivalent electoral votes if it were a state.

After that, delegates would be awarded based on the actual number of electoral votes delivered to the GOP candidate for the last four or five election cycles, with a little more weight given to the more recent results.

Bonus delegates would be assigned for GOP governors, U.S. senators, congress people and state legislatures.

Additional bonus delegates would be assigned to those voting in April, May or June and those awarding delegates proportionally rather than winner-take-all.

It really doesn't bother me that under this formula Texas would have more delegates than California despite having lower population. In fact, it is a fair way to encourage California to do something to have a greater voice in the delegate selection process.

In 20-20 hindsight, we should have seen this coming.

Then you are throwing your vote away. Romney can't win.

I am also surprised, that as the Christian you are, that you can still vote for a man who has whole-heartedly backed the Gay Agenda and has not backed away from it, has not repented for it.

It would better for all conservatives involved, that if Romney is the nominee, that we spend our time making sure actual conservatives are elected in lower races and start laying the groundwork for either removing the influence of the GOP-E in the GOP or working on an actual conservative third-party for a home for conservatives.

I’m going to catch flack for this but I agree with Freedomworks.

Newt (to whom I’ve sent funds in support) can’t seem to move forward beyond some portions of the South.

Santorium seems daily more like a High School Nun with her ruler ready to wack someone who misbehaves.

RP...enough said.

So who do you have left?

Palin
Perry
Ryan

None have the funds or organization to do it this late in the game.

The Tea Party movement has moved the country slowly to a more conservative thought. Concentrate on keeping the House, capturing the Senate and kicking Obama to the curb.

Stop playing tick-tac-toe while the RATS are playing Chess.

Look at Romney's record of judge appointments in MA. We are cooked either way. It's bad enough when a Democrat president puts liberals on the bench. But when a Republican president does it, it's *game over* That's why it is absolutely VITAL that we not nominate him.

Most annoying to me is that Democrat presidents never "slip" and put a Souter on the bench by accident. Ever wonder why it's only our guys that do that?

You make a good analysis and I won’t quarrel. But as Rush says maybe just maybe Romney is the “conservative alternative” He has agreed to defund Planned Parenthood, a convert to the anti-abortion cause, and does not believe in gay marriage and is prepared to take on the Chinese and the Iranians. We’ll simply have to hold his feet to the fire. But this is not an election for anyone who believes in God and country to sit it out. That would border on treason. In the general, it’s anybody but Obama.

There is nothing in Mitt's record so support the following assumptions:

1. He has made an honest conversion to conservatism.
2. He has quit lying. (Quite the opposite, remember the recent "I've always been Pro-Life" statement at CPAC?)
3. That anyone would be able to hold his feet to the fire.

freedomworks is not the tea party. more like a republican attempt to co-opt the tea party. anyway, we simply use these umbrella groups to coordinate our actions as individuals.

my main focus is to continue to stop or slow the immoral, r-elite anointed romney, and work down ticket (especially right now in wisconsin for scott walker). that’s where the real battle is right now. IMO, the presidency is a side show, until someone gets to the magic 1200 delegates.

we did lose mazullo to the cantor and the r-elite yesterday. that was a loss. His will be done. we in the tea party will continue to do our jobs as individuals. we don’t pay attention to any wannabe “tea party generals,” like armey.

as my two cents, all these “hypothetical” romney supporters here are not close to convincing me to vote for romney. most of their arguments are un-proved propostions which i can easily construct counter arguments too, or simply falsify with historical data.

anyway romney, himself, could very easily convince me as a conservative. all he has to do at a minimum is go on the public record asking forgiveness for his past immoral positions on romneycare (medical slavery), convenience abortion (murder), and man-caused global warming (idolatry). if he did that, i could vote for him.

maybe some of his “hypothetical supporters” could convince him to do that.

We? I have other choices than romney or obama. You may feel stuck with either or however.

Your analogy is spot on. The only difference between 70 and 140 is it takes a hair longer to get to the wall and crash. The end result is the same. Couple that with people like soros and others in the passengers seat who plan on stomping on romenys foot pushing the car up to 140 anyways and we are screwed.

They dream up scare stories about the enemy so that folks will send them money and sign phony petitions that politicians never read. They use the money to pay themselves handsomely so they can sit around and do nothing but send out more fundraising emails. Beats working.
