OXFORD, Ohio (CBS Cleveland) — A transgender student at Miami University has filed a complaint against the school after not being allowed to serve as a residential assistant in an all-male dorm.
Kaeden Kass, who was born a female but identifies himself as male, filed a complaint with the dean of students and the Miami University council over the incident, according to WLWT-TV. Kass was offered the same position for a female suite.
“The problem is, I’m a male-identified person,” Kass told WLWT-TV. “As soon as I’m in a space that is all female, my identity gets erased.”

Nice. Tuition money going to good use. Specific dorms for every sexual persuasion but scant monty to teach the students any useful skills or knowledge.
I’m sure the judge could reach an equitable settlement.
There are two conflicting sets of problems here.
The first is a transgender who identifies as a male. The second is the other dorm residents who may feel uncomfortable with a transgender person who is allowed intimate access to their lives.
It shouldn’t be a problem. That is, the university no doubt has many jobs equivalent to a dorm resident assistant they could offer this person, that are in no way dependent on, or sensitive to gender.
While the law may say that this person cannot be discriminated against as far as being hired, at a particular pay level and grade, they law should in no way force either employment that makes someone sexually uncomfortable, or makes others sexually uncomfortable, in intimate surroundings.
There is an exception to jobs that require some degree of sexual intimacy, that they may be specific to a gender. But there is no legitimate way in which the law can require an employer to impose what is in effect sexual harassment, on its customers, based on the *desire* of a potential employee to have that particular job.
This reminds me of my favorite poet, Samuel Hoffenstein, who wrote: “Breathes there a man with hide so tough, Who says two sexes aren’t enough?”

What happens when a person who was born a man, and identifies himself as a man, attempts to have sex with this person based on the fact that she is biologically female? Suppose they’re all drunk and he succeeds? Or what if a man who identifies himself as homosexual attempts to have sex with this person based on her identifying herself as male, only to find that he’s a she?
I’m very grateful that all the people in my life are, in fact, the sex they think they are.

The university does offer gender neutral housing, but this student (who is still legally and officially identified as a female) refuses to accept placement there.
I can see how the university would be backed into a corner if this person had taken surgical and legal steps . But this is a “self-identification.”

You know, I have the same problem. I, too, am a "male-identified person." Been that way for years. But, unlike Mr(?) Kass, when I'm in a space that is all female my male identity becomes, shall we say, "enhanced." Mr. Kass must have something wrong with him if he has different feelings.
Maybe it needs to decide once and for all what sex it is.
For a long time, now, I’ve thought “trans-gender” meant the person actually physically changed their sex. Now I see that it means they just “think” they’ve changed their sex.

trans-sexual (which are the ones who go under the knife, I guess...ugh)

Because it's not politically correct to think of this individual as "disturbed" and she is milking it to the bone (so to speak). I once worked at a job where there was a guy who had undergone a lopadickoffome; none of the natural-born women would use the restroom while he was in there.
Our secretary’s desk (we still called ‘em ‘secretary’ back in those days) was situated such that she could monitor passage of people going to the restroom; it became one of her unofficial duties to let the other women know when it was safe to use the facilities.
I think everyone should be allowed a test drive.
