The Silent Majority is About to Explode

RUSH: Here's a story from Fox News. This... See, I have a sense of things in this country. I believe there's a great silent majority. I think you're in it. The silent majority is made up of people who are not represented by the Democrat Party or the mainstream media.

The silent majority are the people who get up and go to work, try to play by the rules, try to do everything right according to their morality and sense of ethics and their sense of right and wrong. They get laughed at and made fun of for it in movies and books and TV shows and songs. They're consistently impugned. They're called old-fashioned, fuddy-duddies, hayseeds, unrealistic, what have you. But they're there, and it's a huge number. My impression, my gut instinct about the silent majority is it's about to explode. It's about had enough. A lot of small, incremental things have happened over 20 or 30 years.

But now with Obama, those small, incremental things becoming bigger and more impactful with each instance. And they carry with them close to a call to action. In the past, those incremental changes or deteriorations in our culture, in society, people said, "Oh, okay. We'll just chalk that up to another sign of deterioration," and you go about your life. Now these things that are happening are giving people in the silent majority great pause and they're saying, this isn't okay. They don't know quite what to do about it, but they are ready to explode, and this next story is the kind of thing that I'm talking about. It's from Fox News. It's about Stony Brook University in New York. And I will just read it to you as it's written, as it's published.

"New York’s Stony Brook University has decided to no longer cancel classes for major Christian and Jewish holidays in an effort to ensure that some religions aren’t given special treatment and to 'afford equal support and equal respect to students and faculty from all faiths.'" So Stony Brook University is no longer going to recognize major Christian and Jewish holidays because it might offend people who aren't Christian or Jewish. "Jewish students would be impacted on Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Passover and Holy Week." No longer are classes gonna be canceled. You observe the holiday, you get no credit for showing up 'cause the classes are going on.

"Christian students would be impacted on Good Friday. The Christmas holiday is protected under a union contract and occurs when classes are traditionally not in session," anyway. So there won't be any change over the Christmas break because that's protected under a union contract. But if the unions didn't have a contract saying they weren't working over those two weeks, then I guess we're to assume here that classes would not be canceled for Christmas, either. "The university had considered allowing faculty to schedule exams on Saturday and Sunday -- a time when many students attend worship services.

"However, that decision was tabled after reaching a compromise with students. 'As a secular university, as a state-funded university our priority must be to maximize instructional opportunities for our students,' said Charles Robbins, vice provost for undergraduate education. 'First and foremost, it's important to note that while I respect everyone's concerns, the reality is it's a relatively small number of people who are upset.'" It's just the Christians and the Jews. He didn't say that. I'm just adding that. I'm illustrating. "[I]t's a relatively small number of people who are upset." I'm saying: Yeah, like it's just the Christians and the Jews.

"Robbins told Fox News the university's decision to stop cancelling classes for Christian and Jewish holidays offers 'equal protection under the regulations to everybody and no one is getting quote, unquote, special treatment.' Robbins, who has a background in social justice, said many religions, including the Muslims and Buddhists have never had their holidays officially recognized by the university," and that isn't right. "'Now all segments of our population will be equally recognized,' he said. 'It really is the American fair thing to do.'"

This is the kind of story that's going to cause an eruption in the silent majority. The silent majority, made up of Christians and Jews alike, are not doing anything to destroy this country -- they're not doing one thing to harm it -- and yet they're sitting around and watching the destruction take place all around 'em. And then they hear that because they are a majority, their very existence makes life unfair for others. So we're gonna take away your holiday and we're gonna take away your tradition. Except for Christmas because the unions have a deal there. "However, Stony Brook University's 24,100 undergraduate and graduate students are not as religiously diverse as the vice provost said.

"According to a report in The Jewish Week, 26% consider themselves Roman Catholic, 24% consider themselves other Christian, 8% are Muslim, 5% are Jewish, and 5% are Hindu. Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, told Fox News that the university's board of trustees should conduct an investigation into the matter. 'The goal here is radical secularism being shoved down the throats of the people at Stony Brook,' he said." That's right, and it's coming from some of these "social justice" guys. So once and again, it's an attack on the people who make the country work. It's an attack on the traditions and institutions which have defined the greatness of this country.

It's an attack on people who aren't doing anything. These people are not destroying the country. They're not taking steps to pervert the culture. So call it what you want: Political correctness, censorship, fear, superiority, arrogance, what have you. Here you have a liberal who has majored in "social justice studies" mandating that classes will no longer be canceled for Christian and Jewish holidays 'cause it just isn't fair to the others. "A number of faculty and students are outraged over the decision." I should add that. "'You really have to choose between my faith and my school work and I don't want to be put in that position,' Aaron Gershoff told CBS News."

Well, they just put you in that position.

Too late to explode now.

We have liberal Mittens as our nominee.

I probably won’t be voting.

...or the Republican Party. Sorry to say.

You are correct on that, at least as far as the ruling establishment of the Republican Party, not the constituent voters, who are more accurately Conservative, not Republican. We had example today when one of Romney’s top camapign advisers told how he would shed all his conservative talk after the nomination “like an Etch-a-Sketch” box.

I hope that Romney is not a prisoner of these aides. If he “goes to the middle” or plays for the “moderates” at the expense of the conservatives, like McCain did and as these campaign bigwigs suggest, he will lose big.

That's your prerogative, but not being able to differntiate between Romney and Obama is akin to not being able to differentiate between Germany and Venezuela.

You already see bits of McCainism peaking out with the “I won't light my hair on fire” or “embarrass” people remarks.

Both Romney and Obama are shady, fuzzy creatures and neither of them are conservative. Romney was far left in Mass and now he wants to pretend otherwise, at least until the nomination is secure.

I am NOT a Republican. I will vote for a conservative whatever the party.

Welcome to the United Soviet States of America..where the Pravda State Media “vet” the candidates to the pleasure and needs of the RinoCrat UniParty.

This “election” will be a non-election...featuring the state approved “candidates”-whose only distinction is whether they are black or white.

Geron,

I hear what you are saying.

It is this simple, another 4 yers of Obama is tantamount to destruction for this country. Yet, strangely, Romney is a slightly less liberal vesrion of the same animal. There truly is no choice here.

Obama - off the cliff at speed of light

Romney - off the cliff at speed of sound

I will be voting. IF Romney is nominee, I will ONLY vote down ticket for Reps/Sen/State offices.

Why? The train wreck is coming. There is so much happening now, so fast, from so many directions, it is practically inevitable, without a conservative Congress (House AND Senate) AND a conservative POTUS. I did not Republican for a reason.

Romney LOVES RomneyCare. He will do nothing to repeal ObamaCare. He LOVES it too.

“That’s your prerogative, but not being able to differntiate between Romney and Obama is akin to not being able to differentiate between Germany and Venezuela.”

Not being able to differentiate between Romney and Obama is more akin to not being able to differentiate between Heinrich Himmler and Ernst Rohm.

The two leftwing American activists are essentially the same in their policy records and objectives, but like Himmler Romney is better organized, smarter and more diligent and thus will be able to effect more harm. So there actually -is- a difference.
