The deadly shooting of an unarmed teenager by a neighborhood watch captain is sparking outrage in New York and across the country, and now, the Occupy Wall Street Movement is getting involved.

Trayvon Martin's family meets with the justice department Thursday to demand answers about the way their son's shooting was handled by local police in Florida. But on Wednesday night, hundreds rallied in Union Square Park as Martin's parents spoke to the crowd.

"My son did not deserve to die," Tracy Martin said after thanking those who participated in a march in the teenager's memory.

Demonstrators chanting "we want arrests" converged on for what was dubbed the Million Hoodie March.

Sybrina Fulton, Trayvon Martin's mother, told the crowd: "My heart is in pain, but to see the support of all of you really makes a difference."

Here's the original source for the Van Jones quote about the time he spent in jail following the Rodney King/LA riots (Jones was arrested in "peaceful" protests in San Fran). It was in a 2005 interview he did with East Bay Express. They of course (what else?) claim he "renounced his rowdy Black Nationalist ways" since then (yet he's calling for "complete revolution" in Aug 2009!):

Killing of Black teen, Trayvon Martin sparks outcry, national mobilization - March 20, 2012 - Najee Muhammad, who heads the New Black Liberation Militia in Atlanta, told The Final Call his group is determined to make a citizen’s arrest.

“Everybody is making great speeches but somebody has to do something different. Nobody is thinking like this. We can’t keep looking to the enemy to give us justice,” said Mr. Muhammad.

He says the militia group has had “well-trained members” on the ground in Sanford the past few weeks and even obtained the address for the parents of Mr. Zimmerman in Lake Mary, Fla.

“We were able to obtain information that his father, Robert Zimmerman, got him out of the country because they are spooked out and scared by what his son did,” said Mr. Muhammad. “People want to debate about whether there is probable cause to make a citizen’s arrest. George Zimmerman killed a 17-year-old boy in cold-blooded pre-meditated murder. What more probable cause do you need?”

Since making their efforts public, he says the New Black Liberation Militia has received numerous calls from the Justice Dept., FBI, the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center in attempts at “finding out details of our plans because they know how we move. We’re not playing games.”

At least until David Horowitz and Accuracy in Media took notice and wrote about it. Now the page features photos of boxing great Muhammad Ali. Hill's MySpace page is also gone.

Interview with Representative Shelia Jackson Lee - March 19, 2012 - REP. SHEILA JACKSON LEE (D), TEXAS: It is OK to have a neighborhood watch, but not a neighborhood vigilante, and frankly the question has to be whether this young boy's life was taken and his civil rights denied and an ineffective investigation.

The reason why I suggest that this is a civil rights case, no matter what background the individual has -- civil rights belong to all Americans -- is that sometimes a federal law has to say the protection of this child's life is superior to state law and federal law trumps state law in terms of protecting his life.

What about the elderly white couple savagely beaten in an Oklahoma home invasion? The man’s wife, nearly blind; beaten to death by blacks? Hate crime? Hello? Anyone?

Here’s what I don’t understand: how can you say Zimmerman was “trying to kill” Martin? Does that sound even remotely reasonable?

Consider:

1) Zimmerman was armed.
2) There was a lengthy struggle caught on tape prior to the shot being fired.
3) Martin’s father has reportedly said the voice yelling for “Help” on the 911 tape is not Trayvon.

So, if Zimmerman was trying to kill Martin, you’d think it would be handled a bit more efficiently. The points outlined above suggest more to me that:

1) Zimmerman confronted Martin and asked what he was doing.
2) Zimmerman was then attacked by Martin.
3) Zimmerman fought back and attempted to call for help.
4) When no help arrived, Zimmerman finally shot Martin in self defense.

Same conclusion the police came to. Read the article I posted back to you. Given the injuries sustained by Zimmerman, I’d say the police were right. Also, confronting a suspicious person in your neighborhood is not “being an aggressor.” It’s being a vigilant neighbor.

Hillary and the Black Panthers: The Real Story

A series of hard-Left mentors introduced Hillary to the brass-knuckle realities of revolutionary activism. As a Wellesley undergraduate, she met and interviewed radical organizer Saul Alinsky, whose Machiavellian tactics she admired. Hillary's senior thesis supported Alinsky's call for class warfare. (4)

At Yale, Hillary found a new Svengali in the form of left-wing law professor Thomas Emerson, known around campus as "Tommy the Commie." Emerson recruited Hillary and other students to help monitor the trial of the New Haven Nine for civil rights violations. Hillary took charge of the operation, scheduling the students in shifts, so that student monitors would always be present in the courtroom. She befriended and worked closely with Panther lawyer Charles Garry. (5)

Some believe that the enormous pressure exerted by the Left helped ensure light sentences for the New Haven Nine. Whether or not this is true, the punishments were mild.

"Only one of the killers was still in prison in 1977," reports John McCaslin in the Washington Times. "The gunman, Warren Kimbro, got a Harvard scholarship and became an assistant dean at Eastern Connecticut State College. Ericka Huggins, who boiled the water for Mr. Rackley's torture, got elected to a California school board." (6)

Hillary's defenders argue that she played no "significant" role in the New Haven Nine's defense. This is semantic hairsplitting. Obviously, Hillary was less "significant" than Charles Garry or "Tommy the Commie" Emerson. But Hillary served as a trusted lieutenant to these movers and shakers. Moreover, she had a national profile as a campus activist. Hillary was no rank-and-file student protester, as her apologists claim.

Indeed, Hillary's work for the Panthers won her a summer internship at the Berkeley office of attorney Robert Treuhaft in 1972. A hardline Stalinist, Treuhaft had quit the Communist Party in 1958 only because it was losing members and no longer provided a good platform for his activism. (7) "Treuhaft is a man who dedicated his entire legal career to advancing the agenda of the Soviet Communist Party and the KGB," notes historian Stephen Schwartz. (8)

The defense of the New Haven Nine marked Hillary's initiation into the sinister underworld of the hard-core, revolutionary Left. To my knowledge, Hillary has never publicly renounced nor apologized for her role in that movement.
