Santorum Suggests Obama Preferable to "Etch-A-Sketch" Romney.

Rick Santorum's latest attempt to use a Mitt Romney aide's "Etch-A-Sketch" remark against the Republican front-runner instead gave his rival a chance to fire back on Thursday, after Santorum seemed to say he'd rather see President Obama reelected than send Romney to the White House.

Speaking at an event in Texas, Santorum again made the case that Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom's comments Wednesday on CNN about a "reset" of the campaign if Romney clinched the nomination showed the former Massachusetts governor's efforts to appeal to conservatives were insincere.

"You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who's just going to be a little different than the person in there," Santorum told a crowd in San Antonio, according to NBC News. "If you're going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch-A-Sketch candidate of the future."

Words fail me too!

A Republican Presidential candidate says he rather see the DEM (Obama) re-elected than to send a fellow Republican candidate to the White House?????

So Rick Santorum rather see Obama in our White House for four more years than Mitt Romney???? I hope that statement makes folks realize Santorum is NOT who we need in the White House!! AND I DON'T FAVOR Romney either, but I certainly would vote for Romney against Obama!!!

I hope every LA Freeper will support the best Republican Presidential candidate running, and that is Newt!

It is very possible that Romney winning the election will do more damage to the Republican party than Obama winning reelection. Gridlock is probably better than a newly powerful, fundamentally dishonest, decidedly liberal Republican party. Consider the following scenarios.

Scenario A: If RINO Romney wins and is unpopular, as he was as governor and is to an historic degree in this primary, then the Democrats will sweep Congress in 2014. The opposition party always does when a sitting president is unpopular. Then the Democrats will run a new far-left candidate or maybe even Obama again, booting Romney out in 2016. This will be an exact repeat of 2006-2008 when disgruntled Republicans stayed home and let Democrats take power. What follows in 2016 is a hard-left majority government with a wide mandate. Using their new Congressional majority, they wouldn’t hesitate to institute pure socialized medicine, full abortion up to partial-birth coverage, big tax increases, shutdown of American energy production, etc.

Scenario B: If Mittsky Romneyev wins and IS popular, then conservatism in government as we know it is dead. We’ll get 16 years or more of GOP elite “moderate” rule. The only options to vote for president will be left and hard-left. Every issue conservatives care about will be compromised, which will mean liberals get most of what they wanted. Our entire party structure and the conservative media that they’ve proven they control will no longer be defending conservatism, they’ll be defending this sickeningly amoral, unprincipled RINO.

Scenario C: If Bishop Willard loses, the Tea Party will be motivated to vote in yet more Republican conservative Congressmen in 2014 to continue gridlocking Obama. There’s very little Obama has done besides Obamacare that isn’t reversible under a new administration. That’s the benefit of him having no choice but to do everything by executive fiat. If Obamacare is overturned by the Supreme Court this year, then his worst legacy will be wiped out even before the election. We will have proven to the GOP elites that we were right, liberal Republican Presidents are not what the country wants. Then in 2016 we get another chance to nominate a conservative for President, with more people willing to listen to our argument as to what kind of candidate we should run.

There’s a lot to be said for forcing the GOP’s hand-picked liberal Republicans to go down in flames, until the elites and/or their sheeple party line voters finally get the message. If we want conservatism to win the day and Massachusetts Mitt is the nominee, then it might do the most good for conservatism if conservatives make a strategic retreat in this election.

Rather your brain fails.

Santorum did not say he preferred Obama. Read his damn words before posting garbage.

The title of the article posted did not originate from the O P (t b f), but from the LA Times' M. Meoli.

So, you should direct your wrath accordingly.

From Santorum.....

If you're going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch-A-Sketch candidate of the future."

If I could, I'd type the word STUPID with a font size of +400

Santorum DOES have a point. Romney has lied, cheated, stolen. He destroyed all the other candidates with his money. I would rather a democrat destroy this country, than a republican. Of course, I might not be a republican if I change parties.

The Mormon church is baptizing a quarter million new members a year and bring more that that in as children. That add up to about 5% growth a year. There may be people leaving the Mormons but there are a lot more joining.

- - - -
Not true. I can provide sources, even from your own members.

The LDS is at a ZERO percent growth rate and that includes the fact that they have changed how they report baptisms to include children of record whereas they used to be reported separately. I can source that as well.

Additionally, Evangelical churches in Utah are bursting with Ex-mos. Also, the ‘activity’ rate is less than 50% for the one year mark.

It isn’t a lie, it is stone cold fact that many are leaving the LDS church, far more than are joining. Many don’t bother to go through the hassle of name removal (and it is a hassle) so are still counted as members but they no longer consider themselves LDS and many have moved on to other churches.

Want sources?

You are correct lying is a stupid thing, so why does the LDS church lie to their members and others about their history, their membership numbers, etc? I left the LDS church when I discovered how many lies they were telling me, even from the stand at General Conference - like the health of then Pres. E.T. Benson when his own son, Reed, told me something vastly different.

With any luck Palin will be the VP nominee for somebody.

That'd make me vote for just about anybody.

"I never had any. "

Me neither. The man is an idiot that knows how to play the SoCon violin...very well...but still an idiot and traitor to everything that is small government.

He just wants a DIFFERENT big government.

Enemy of the people.

He wants a big government to implement his vision and version of what he thinks is right and good - just a flip of the coin re Obama.

And we just started our new outreach to Santorum supporters yesterday...

Instead of playing silly games with Santorum supporters, maybe you should find your checkbook and dig deep. If you didn't get the memo, Newts campaign is beyond broke. He can't even muster the cash to have the Girl Scouts volunteer to post handmade Go Newt signs on lamp posts because he can't afford the paper, markers and tape.

Rick says all kinds of things and most of his supporters here on this forum never come out to say it was wrong. I have said things when I disagree with my choice (Newt) Rick’s gaffe about the economy-the economy didn’t matter or was the focus of his campaign. He says things all too often and the others such as Rush Limbaugh step in to tell us what he really meant. He gets away with too much-his attitude or it’s incompetence. I was nice to say, it was his all knowing attitude. sorry, I just disagree. You and I can say things, we are not running to be president. I have not said what he did earlier. I just say that I am not voting for Romney because he is a liberal democrat engaging in a huge masquerade as being a conservative. This will probably help Romney to get sympathy support or hopefully, voters will help Newt so Romney doesn’t run away with this thing now.

Have fun planning your glorious GOP takeover in 2014 while listening to inspirational Obama quotes from tinny loudspeakers and shucking corn for the People's Energy Initiative behind an electrified cyclone fence.

Santorum is right.

Nominating Romney rewards repeated, endemic, bad anti-Conservative base, GOP Establishment behavior and is the heighth of enablement. You better believe he will change his tune (after posing as a conservative in Southern States in the primaries) just as quickly as an Etch-a-Sketch. The old "bait and switch". We do this in 2012, I guarantee you they will roll it out in 2016 with Jeb Bush or some such other nonsense. Bush 1, Dole, Bush 2, McClame, Bishop Romney. What a pathetic party.

To ME, that was the biggest gaffe of the week--that by Romney's aide, who let the cat of the bag about how they feel and know we are so gullible, naive and mere pawns on their chessboard. And believe me, this little dustup today will NOT raise Romney coffers a bit--his guys are tapping out and their ROI has been very poor, but will help in further fundraising for Santorum and should raise Rick's positives in conservative Louisiana, North Carolina, conservative belts in Pennsylvania. I say, "go with it and make the best of it." GOP-e can suck on it, not going to facilitate their institutionalized corruption and dishonesty any more, either in this cycle or future cycles. We are not the saps they think we are. This is called "pushback" and they deserve every bit of it.

Santorum is tripping all over his own tongue on a daily basis. Getting mighty sick of him

Indeed. He spends half his campaign backing and filling and "explaining" what he meant to say, and why what he really said isn't what he really meant.

Sheesh. Fuhgeddaboudit.

Santorum is finished in the Republican party and with the Tea Party.

BS. If he does not get this nomination, he is next in line. And if you tell me I am crazy than look around. Everyone screamed for years....NO WAY Romney and he got it. NO WAY McCain and he got it. The system stinks but at least next round we will have an even better Rick Santorum.

“How is Obama worse than Romney? I keep asking this over and over again to people like you, but all I seem to get is the same party-line refrain over and over again. Is it really so difficult to break with the establishment talking heads?”

1. Romney is nominally a capitalist and will defend that system. Obama is certainly a communist at heart, and will do all he can (as he IS doing) to destroy the capitalist system in this country.

2. Romney will abide by at least _some_ respect for the Constitution, rather than Obama, who seems to have none (witness his recent defiance of Congress in making “recess appointments” while the Senate is still “in-session”). And we’ll certainly get more acceptable Supreme Court (and federal court) appointments from Romney.

3. Romney is white, and will represent “white interests” vis-a-vis Obama, who dislikes whites (read quotes from his book) and will do nothing for them (playing that race card when’er he can). And before you go “callin’ me racis’”, remember that the core, traditional values of old America came from white European stock. In that vein, “white interests” very often correlate with “traditional American” values. Whatever Romney’s “values” may be (and I don’t pretend to like him), one thing I -know- deep in my core is that the values Obama has are quite divergent from mine.

You asked what makes Obama “worse” than Romney. For better or worse, there are three examples.

My opinion only.
I realize others’ may differ...
