Skip to comments.Santorum Suggests Obama Preferable to "Etch-A-Sketch" Romney.
Posted on 03/22/2012 6:27:59 PM PDT by true believer forever
Rick Santorum's latest attempt to use a Mitt Romney aide's "Etch-A-Sketch" remark against the Republican front-runner instead gave his rival a chance to fire back on Thursday, after Santorum seemed to say he'd rather see President Obama reelected than send Romney to the White House.
Speaking at an event in Texas, Santorum again made the case that Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom's comments Wednesday on CNN about a "reset" of the campaign if Romney clinched the nomination showed the former Massachusetts governor's efforts to appeal to conservatives were insincere.
"You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who's just going to be a little different than the person in there," Santorum told a crowd in San Antonio, according to NBC News. "If you're going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch-A-Sketch candidate of the future."

Rick Santorum is a Hard-Core Conservative.
When Romney ends up being the nominee, will FR zot everyone?
(OKAY - Not sure how to respond to that. Obama isn't my choice)
Sure, the USA will still exist in name, but we as a people will be a hollow shell of what made our Country the greatest that ever existed in history.
***We already are, thanks to Libs AND RINOs.
(AGREED - I don't like RINOS either, but I hate Marxists)
Oh yeah, are you guaranteeing
***WTF? Who am I to guarantee anything?
(You came up with the idea that another four years of Obama would mean a Conservative Victory in 2016. Are you saying you don't stand behind your own rhetoric? I will substitute the word “believe” for “guarantee” if that helps)
that another four years of Obama will result in a Conservative Republican Victory in 2016?
***Classic false dilemma argument. Heres a false dilemma argument for you: If most of Gingrichs support would fall to Romney when he drops out, then what good is he?
(I didn't mean to provide a false premise. You stated the idea that 2016 would result in a Republican Victory after another four years of Obama, no? I will have to go back and reread your original post to see if I misunderstood)
If you are wrong, and I think you are taking a 50/50 chance of being wrong, whats next, cooking up Jim Jones tried and true Kool Aid Recipe?
***If you are wrong, and I think you are taking a 70/30 chance of being wrong, whats next, Newt begging for 5 states so he can make a difference on the convention ballot other than being a spoiler? Why is it that several Newt supporters have publicly asked him to drop out, even here on FR? Its because hes a spoiler; he isnt in this to promote conservatism any more hes promoting Newt.
(Sorry, I don't agree that Newt is a Spoiler. If you think he is just promoting Newt, I would ask to what end? Fame, fortune, pissing off Santorum supporters? Unfortunately Rick will implode since he has a nasty habit of tripping over his tongue and saying things that will come back to bite him in the butt should he become the Republican Nominee. I thought Romney was the gaffe king, now Santorum is giving him a run for his money. BTW - I don't agree with “several Newt supporters” who think he should drop out, I speak for myself. When the Primary season ends we will know what's in store for the Convention. Who will mix it up, Newt, Palin, Mittens, who knows?)
Oh boy I am gonna need the flame suit. The Social and Economic conservatives got split. Reagan was both. Same dang thing Huckabee screwed Thompson maybe even more than his lack of energy. For better or worse faith based Conservatives are voting for the man or woman that is more faith centric. This is the 2nd time it has been nothing but a spoiler from a macro view.
As I see it, the nation would easily survive four or even eight years of Romney in the whitehouse; it would not survive another four years of Obama. There would be no pieces left for anybody to try to pick up or put back together four years down the road. My first choice in the thing is Newt, but that starts to look like wishful thinking at this juncture.
Kevmo, just reread your statement (above) and upon reflection I read more into it than your words meant to convey. I still disagree that after another four years of Obama we will “get a true conservative in 2016”, but if that is your belief so be it. Obama is not just a Liberal, he is a tried and true Marxist masquerading as a typical modern Democrat.
My apologies for reading too much into your original post...
This is the same “conservative” who, in Michigan, asked Democrats to switch parties in the primary and vote for him.
I liked him at first, now I’ve lost most of my respect for him. I’m glad we have had this long primary.
We’re screwed. I can’t do anything about it but I can go to the next g_n show and buy more lead throwers. It’s gonna hit the fan sooner (Obama wins) or later (Romney wins).
Thanks to Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and North Dakota for voting for this idiot over Newt.
Just absolutely stupid voters.
Yep but the Newters eat up any out-of-context Santorum quote the MSM dishes out and peppers it with insults like “Bible Boy” and “Saint Rick.”
I will NOT vote for Romney if Rick or Newt is not the nominee. I might even write in Ron Paul as a metaphorical FU to the GOP-E.
To do so would be to reward Mitt’s horrendous anti-conservative campaign.
>> Wouldn’t matter anyway. They’re true believers. Zealots for the most part.
The Moral Vanity Brigade as I call them.
Anyway, your objective call on that hideous post was indeed noted.
>> Perry and Herman Cain have had brain freezes... but not Rick, at least not until lately.
The lengths Rick’s supporters will go to cover his ineptitude boarders on maniacal desperation. At least the rest of us acknowledge the fallibility of our chosen candidates. How about a little object candor for once.
Romney campaign should send a thank you note to Santorum. Santorum took away the heat (at least part of it) from their own gaffe. That the statement came from the candidate himself, not an adviser, carries more weight. Romney can always fire his adviser and denounce the statement. Santorum can’t. That Gingrich now has weighed in, and sides with Romney, doesn’t help Santorum.
Ultimately, we’re at fault for allowing the perpetuation of the scum that’s inhabiting the GOP. To be fair, not all the members are intransigent, self-serving dirtbags; many reflect our mutual interests. We just need to continue pounding away. We’ll eventually hammer the shit out.
He has a point in that, why are we running a candidate who has shared many of the same positions with Obama? Because he says he's shifted right? People will see that, and when it comes to liberal vs. liberal lite, why won't they just vote for the real thing?
The problem we have with the establishment is that they are moderate and want moderates like McCain and Romney. They chirp that it's to get the independents, when the truth is because they are moderate and want a moderate. The primary process is such that the moderate has the establishment money, and the conservative candidates split the votes. They get their moderate, and even though their moderate (in this case - Romney) ran a scorched earth campaign against the conservative candidates, they expect the conservatives to jump on board. They are counting on conservatives to pull the lever because they know their moderate is better than the leftist on the other ticket. They take the conservative vote for granted. When/if their moderate (Romney) wins, then they can feel affirmation in that they get the moderate they want, they can get independents, and conservatives will be forced to vote for their candidate anyway. Then they can gladly move the party to the left and claim that a true conservative like Santorum is too far to the right.
I think that Santorum was saying that with the above paragraph in mind and in trying to get people to think, "What's the point in running someone against Obama who has held many positions (until the flip flops) that are similar to Obama?" Obama will use that against Romney.
I don’t hope that Santorum gets beat in Louisiana by Romney. I hope he gets beat by Newt. I once kinda liked Santorum until he, like Rick Perry panned out to be a light-weight, who is really kinda D-U-M-B. No wonder he got beat in his last Senate race by the largest margin ever for a defeated incumbent Senator. The guy has no political moxie. He and his advisers must be retarded. How can one person make so many gaffes and put his foot in his mouth almost every stinkin’ day without someone saying, “Hey dude; shut up.” And would someone please tell Karen Santorum to comb her damn hair!!!
I also have heard from a number of folks from PA who say they doubt Santorum will carry PA.
That would be so great. Maybe that would force him to get his DUMB ass out of the race and quit embarrassing us. Don’t be surprised if he does lose. Remember; he lost his last Senate race by the largest margin ever by a sitting Senator.
I`m stunned by how easy the GOP candidates are making this election for Obama. Even though he has the voter fraud machinery at his disposal in case the election appears close, it`s looking ever more clear he`s not going to even have to open that crate.
Much has been said and many take solace in Reagan`s comeback against Carter in the closing days of the 1980 campaign. Problem is.... none of the GOP`s gang of four bear any discernible similarities to Reagan.
Remember the GOP`s advantage in the “enthusiasm gap” just a few months ago? Contrast that to the abysmal turnout in IL`s primary.. something that told volumes about the disgust people are having toward the GOP.
It`d be nice if all four and their campaign managers would step back and put a lid on the intramural BS and focus on Obama from time to time. That`d be a refreshing development.
Dang it all Rick!
Way to McCain yourself, the GOP and every true conservative. No matter if you or Romney are the nominee, the Dem’s will run that soundbite 24/7.
Still, I guess we don’t have to wonder about you being the VP pick anymore if Romney takes the nomination ....
Wrong church and pew. I’ll be pulling the lever that helps the most to rid us of the Satan in office now.
We are back to baby steps now.
