Romney's Health-Care Duck
WSJ ^ | March 22, 2012 | KIMBERLEY A. STRASSEL

Posted on 03/23/2012 7:23:53 AM PDT by throwback

Illinois has come and gone, and Mitt Romney's team is plotting how best to squeeze the magic number of delegates out of the remaining primary states. But the candidate's real problem isn't geography; it is history.

Friday is the two-year anniversary of Barack Obama's health-care law. Republicans spent this week highlighting this legislation's taxes, mandates, unintended consequences and partisan aims. On Monday the Supreme Court hears arguments about its constitutionality. Everywhere, the talk is ObamaCare.

Rick Santorum's strongest argument is that Mr. Romney won't provide a clear enough contrast with the president, and his strongest example is the Massachusetts health-care law Gov. Romney signed in 2006—which was a model for the federal law, and which he refuses to disavow. RomneyCare is why a significant contingent of Republican primary voters refuse to vote for the putative front-runner.

Mr. Romney had his chance to fix this via his big speech on health care at the University of Michigan in May, 2011. Yet fretful of furthering his reputation as a flip-flopper, he stuck by his law, hiding behind the 10th Amendment. "Our plan was a state solution to a state problem," he said, meaning that while it might look like ObamaCare and walk like ObamaCare and quack like ObamaCare, it was really just a harmless Massachusetts duck.

Mr. Santorum has been nimbly skewering this argument, pointing out that just because a state may have the power to institute a program, that doesn't mean it should. The law Mr. Romney signed, he says, is "government-run health care," pure and simple. Forcing citizens to buy a product, imposing new mandates, creating new health entitlement programs—these, he notes, are mistakes at both the federal and the state level.

What most surprises many conservative observers is that Mr. Romney hasn't taken the obvious steps to fix this mess. While he is not likely to do a U-turn, long primaries do allow candidates to slowly adjust their positions until they arrive in a new place. And Mr. Romney is not lacking the skill, or the opportunity, for some RomneyCare damage control.

Strassel tries to offer Romney some advice to remediate his problem with his big government solution, but it doesn't work. His real problem is that his core impulses are usually wrong, and you can't fix it.

Not a real problem. Supremes dash it down. Republicans ignore the problem

I think you’re correct. Only if the court takes it off the radar does Romney have a chance, and then a poor one. Romney himself is saying the economy is improving. No reason for him. The relentless expansion of government will continue.

So let’s look at all the issues that will be off the table if Milt is the GOP candidate against Obummer:

Obamacare
Tax and Cap
High Gas Prices lead to Green solutions
Man Made Global Warming
Govt’ Mandates

And those are just the issues off the top of my head where Milt at one point or another agreed with Obummer. I remember a guy once saying something about the difference between Pale Pastels and Bold Colors.

The major problem with THE NINE SUPREMES is that they are chosen for political reasons by the POTUS, and then they vote as an un-accountable democracy, for a Nation that is NOT a Democracy, but a REPUBLIC.

As a result, THE NINE SUPREMES commonly vote 5 to 4 on most issues. Constitutionality is seldom a consideration, and their up-coming ruling on Obama”care” will prove my point.

Now is the time to stand and deliver to address our grievances to the dictates of the Left.

Oppose the dictates of Dictator Baby-Doc Barack!

Our ONLY chance to ABOLISH Obama”care” rests with THE NINE SUPREMES, because Romney will be defeated by Obama.

IMHO, if Romney is anointed as the RNC Nominee, THE main issue in the National Election, Obama”care,” will be taken off the campaign table. Hence, Romney will not only lose, but suffer another crushing, and sadly typical, RINO defeat.

To those who want poster ideas, here are a few ideas for demonstration posters:

Obama”care” was robo-signed by Congress, and is therefore illegal.

Obama”care” was 2700 pages long, but is still being written, but not by Congress: witness the forced contraception coverage recently.

Obama”care” has caused “The Catholic Spring.”

Obama”care” reduces competition, and therefore is illegal by the 1890 Sherman Anti-Trust Law.

Obama”care” is designed to be a US Federal Government monopoly, with no competition.

Obama”care” also is illegal according to the US Constitution, because it violates our freedom of choice.

Will THE NINE SUPREMES notice any of these three violations? I seriously doubt it.

Impeached Bill Clinton proved that the US President is above US Federal Law, so anything that the President wants he gets, regardless of the Federal Laws that he has violated.

Romney as the GOP nominee this election is a HUGE fail on the part of the Republican party. Could they be anymore out of touch with there base? . Romney is the only possible GOP nominee that Obama could beat. No wonder Obama is giddy that Romney will most likely be he nominee. It makes me sick, and I unloaded on he RNC when they called for a donation yesterday!

So let’s look at all the issues that will be off the table if Milt is the GOP candidate against Obummer:

You might as well throw in:

1. Reducing the size of government.
2. Any serious Tax Reform
3. Any serious defense of the 2nd amendment
4. Any push back on the Gay Agenda
5. Any good Supreme Court Justice nominations.

So where is the difference between Obama and Mitt "Progressive Liberal" Romney again?
