A new Rasmussen Reports polls gives GOP presidential contender Rick Santorum a double-digit lead going into the Louisiana primary on Saturday, putting the former Pennsylvania senator on solid footing to carry some additional bragging rights out of another Deep South nominating contest.

The survey shows former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney running second and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich running a distant third

“I don’t believe you should be calling me names, but that rolls off my back. I am a gentle grandmother with a very good intellect. I know a slick politician when I see one, and I recognize insincerity in people. Mr. Newt is not perfect, however, I will take his imperfections over Santorum or Romney any day. He at least is man enough to admit when he has made a mistake.”

Ma’am, I don’t question your being “gentle”, however your judgement and analysis equating Santorum with Romney shows your “intellect” is defective. I’m not young myself...I have lived nearly 6 decades and been down many roads.

Like I told you before, Newt is my primary choice. However, even though Santorum is not as intellectual as Newt, he is indeed a sincere social conservative...has been for years. My “beef” with you is that you stupidly equate Santorum with Romney. Romney is evil and phoney and NO BETTER THAN OBAMA. Sanotorum, while not as good as Newt, is still a good choice to replace Obama.

IF, or other here, continue to equate Santorum with evil Romney & Obama....you WILL get a nasty fight from me. I will not be a gentlemen over such foolishness and idiocy.

And I don’t care IF it gets me banned from the forum. I have been a Newt supporter, and still prefer him. However, I think Santorum is just fine IF I cannot get Newt. His “gaffes” just show me he is sincere and not phoney.

However, ROMNEY = OBAMA. One may as well not vote.

“I stand by my statement to you.”

And I stand by my statement to you. Those that will settle for Romney as an acceptable alternative to Obama are fools, and destructive of Ronald Reagan conservatism. They are ENEMIES of conservatism.

By the way. I cc Mr. Robinson because I am using rhetoric that is strong have may be inappropriate for this forum. So, I am “tattling” on myself not you.

I’m sick to my soul of Gingrich bashers and Santorum bashers. The ONLY persons that need be bashed are Romney and Obama. They are enemies of conservatism. The moment Romney gets the nomination....he will be so leftest one will not be able to distinguish him from Obama except by his skin color. That is why I REFUSE TO SUPPORT ROMNEY EVER. Those that do, IMO, are terrible sellouts.

“Santorum was one of the biggest spenders during his years in the Senate. He voted for big labor projects, and liberal proposals as well. On FreeRepublic you can find a very good list of his “so called accomplishments””

This is just further proof you are not very bright. You stupidly assume stuff posted here is factual or not really spun to suit a point of view. I have seen the same type trash posted about Newt.

You CANNOT trust “facts” that are posted by extreme detractors of a candidate. Be it Newt or Rick.

Both candidates have flaws and pluses. I think Newt’s greatest asset is his intellect and that he is balanced in his conservatism. Sanorum’s is his SOLID social conservatism.

On reflection, I do owe you an apology for the insulting language. That is no way to treat a “lady” and I do apologize.

Santorum spoke to a CONSERVATIVE Conference in Harrisburg PA today and later won the straw poll handily. 600+ attendees.
Newt addressed group later and would no doubt be a formidable nominee too. Support for Romney not there AT ALL.

Thank you, and I accept your apology. I too probably owe you an apology for my directness. I so strongly want Mr. Newt to be our nominee, that I get angry with those that do not see him for what he is, a true leader that can repeat the successes he had while speaker, and bring some sanity to this incredible situation our country has found herself in. The true sign of a man is one that can admit his mistakes, learn from them and become wiser. I feel Mr. Newt is deserving of respect for admitting his mistakes and the wisdom to put his entire life out in the public for scrutiny. How many of us would be willing to do the same thing? I believe he is unselfishly laying his reputation and dignity on the line for WE THE PEOPLE. Maybe that sounds a little corny doesn't it? What has happened to our society?

I think we all get passionate about our candidates from time to time. For the last year and a half we have all been told Romney is the only one who can beat Obama, so much so that those who follow the headlines are backing him out of a sense of foolishness. We here at FreeRepublic feel differently. I also think we all want the same thing, to take back the White House from a president who has set out to destroy our country. Obama is our true opponent. When the time comes to back our nominee, we will remember our first and foremost goal.

I only hope that that nominee is Mr. Newt. He is, however, the one that takes the fight directly to Obama and the bias media, and is the only one that Obama argues with through that media. I hope he does well in Louisiana despite what the media wants us to believe.

You’ve shown yourself to lack all reason so why am I posting to you?

Apparently, I lack all reason as well.

I hope Romney is not the nominee but I will certainly vote for him.

While you’re Waiting for Mr. Goodbar and worshipping your own pureness, another term for Obama would ...

You know Rush’s theme song? My City is Gone?

Well, you’ll look up and see My Country is gone.

By the time Obama makes appointments without congress, appoints two more liberal judges, destroys our economy and makes us so weak both literally and in the eyes of our enemies that they do not fear attacking us ... all your virtue will be for nought.

But we’ve kicked this around long enough so let’s declare victory and move on.

“By the time Obama makes appointments without congress, appoints two more liberal judges, destroys our economy and makes us so weak both literally and in the eyes of our enemies that they do not fear attacking us ... all your virtue will be for nought.”

I trully fear four more years of an Obama administration. However, I honestly don’t see that one run by Romney would be any better. I don’t trust who he would pick for judgeships (he will go for easy confirms). He will cave to the Dems in congress every time....just like he did as a governor. He cannot help the economy...not really. He won’t do nada to stop our slide into Sodom. Plus, he will convince many that Mormonisn is a legit form of Christianity. No, he isn’t any better.

In fact, after the disaster a Romney administration would be occurred, it would set back ever getting a conservative Republican in office.

Bottom line for me is that my conscience won’t let me support Romney. I’m not waiting for “Mr. Goodbar” as you put it. Both Gingrich and Santorum have serious flaws and are far from “perfect.” However, I would be happy with eithre of them....although I think that in a general election that Newt would eviscerate Obama in debates and be more effective. Santorum is a social conservative like I am primarily. However, I’m not sure the country is socially conservative enough to elect him....however against Obama...one never really knows. I have been surprised how well he has done in Southern States. Whatever, at least he somewhat represents me. Newt, I believe, is a balanced conservative (social, defense, fiscal) where Rick is mostly social & defense. However, I think he, Rick, would swing towards fiscal conservatism to be elected and stay in office.

Romney will sway which ever way the wind blows. He won’t be an effective POTUS anymore than Obama. Also, he will set back conservatism if he is elected. Ergo, I will take my chances by leaving the ballot blank or voting for a third party conservative (if there is one). Principle and message is what matters to me now. Also, focussing on Senate and House seats.
