Police: Zimmerman says Trayvon decked him with one blow then began hammering his head

With a single punch, Trayvon Martin decked the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who eventually shot and killed the unarmed 17-year-old, then Trayvon climbed on top of George Zimmerman and slammed his head into the sidewalk several times, leaving him bloody and battered, authorities have revealed to the Orlando Sentinel.

That is the account Zimmerman gave police, and much of it has been corroborated by witnesses, authorities say.

Zimmerman has not spoken publicly about what happened, but that night, Feb. 26, and in later meetings he described and re-enacted for police what he says happened.

In his version of events, he had turned around and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from behind, the two exchanged words then Trayvon punched him in the nose, sending him to the ground, and began beating him.

He called 911 where there was a 911 operator which is different from a police dispatcher. Again, the Sanford PD (in their own statement to the public) said the 911 operator did not command Zimmerman but only suggested he not follow Zimmerman.

I heard right on the audio that he said he was returning to his truck after Trayvon fled into the darkness. He then concluded his call with 911. You might go back and listen to Zimmerman’s call again if you even did it the first time.

Zimmerman never stopped him. When Zimmerman got out of his SUV Trayvon ran off into the darkness. He told the 911 operator he was heading back to his vehicle and then ended the call. That’s when Trayvon came back and attacked Zimmerman.

I don’t mind a busy body in my neighborhood if he/she is looking out for possible bad guys. Trayvon was dressed like thug, acting suspiciously or on drugs (he did get suspended for 10 days because of drugs), and attacked Zimmerman like a thug.

Have you ever worked retail store? If the store employees suspect a customer is possibly shoplifting they constantly busybody the person until they leave by going up to them. If the potential criminal knows there are eyes constantly on him/her they are going to go elsewhere to victimize another place.

I said in a thread yesterday that based on what was out there in the news it may have been a bad shoot, but this story blows that out of the water. If the kid started the escalation with a punch and was on top of Zimmerman smashing his head in, it not only is a good shoot but seems to have saved his life and possibly others lives had that drug using kid gotten a hold of Zimmerman’s gun and then went out looking to score.

According to the transcripting the dispatcher asked him if he was FOLLOWING, to which he said yes. I didn’t see anything about “pursuing.”

That may seem like semantics but in a legal venue, if I turn on the lights and sirens of my police vehicle and go after a vehicle or person with the intent to capture or stop them, I am pursuing.

If I am just following them around the neighborhood because of suspicious activity, that is all that it is, following.

Not pursuing, not stalking.

Here is another people thing are forgetting to look at. Zimmerman said in his call that Martin was acting suspiciously, then started walking toward HIM with his hand in his waistband.

This is a common thug tactic to intimidate people into making people think they are armed. Or it could have been Martin playing with himself, something thugs do often in public.

Either way, it further aroused Zimmerman’s suspicions and when Martin ran, Zimmerman followed. If he is guilty of anything, it’s not being a coward.

Having said that, one of the first things you have to train new cops is don’t be in too damn of a hurry to chase people off into the dark. Gang members have used this tactic to kill officers by separating them from their partners and laying up an ambush, sometimes even coordinated ones.

Zimmerman was no police officer, surely, but he is/was not going to let the usual suspects take over his neighborhoods like so many have in the past.

I am used to seeing a lot of ‘suspicious’ folk around, I live just north of east san jose. They got a pretty good mix of everything there and closeby is heavily flavored too so to speak. Cops usually shoot first and then clean up afterwards.

Whatever. Zimmerman's dad WAS a U.S. District Court Magistrate in Manassas, Virginia. He moved bk to Lake Mary, Fl in the early nineties. He had the ability imo to scrub George's priors and had the ability to get Trayvon's record released even though Trayvon was a minor and also dead.
