With a single punch, Trayvon Martin decked the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who eventually shot and killed the unarmed 17-year-old, then Trayvon climbed on top of George Zimmerman and slammed his head into the sidewalk several times, leaving him bloody and battered, authorities have revealed to the Orlando Sentinel.
That is the account Zimmerman gave police, and much of it has been corroborated by witnesses, authorities say.
Zimmerman has not spoken publicly about what happened, but that night, Feb. 26, and in later meetings he described and re-enacted for police what he says happened.
In his version of events, he had turned around and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from behind, the two exchanged words then Trayvon punched him in the nose, sending him to the ground, and began beating him.
Zimmerman told police he shot the teenager in self-defense.

Police have been reluctant to provided details about all their evidence, but this is what they've disclosed to the Sentinel:
Zimmerman was on his way to the grocery store when he spotted Trayvon walking through his gated community.
Trayvon was visiting his father's fiancée, who lived there. He had been suspended from school in Miami after being found with an empty marijuana baggie. Miami schools have a zero-tolerance policy for drug possession.
Zimmerman called police and reported a suspicious person, describing Trayvon as black, acting strangely and perhaps on drugs.
Zimmerman got out of his SUV to follow Trayvon on foot. When a dispatch employee asked Zimmerman if he was following the 17-year-old, Zimmerman said yes. The dispatcher told Zimmerman he did not need to do that.
There is about a one-minute gap during which police say they're not sure what happened.

Interesting. Other reports indicated that he had assaulted a school bus driver.

Lawyers for Trayvon's family say it was Trayvon, but police say their evidence indicates it was Zimmerman.
This is a new twist. An earlier report says that Martin's father confirmed the voice crying for help was not Martin.
It should be fairly easy to confirm the truth with voice match technology.

Very convenient twist if someone wants to prove a point. I believe the evidence points to Zimmerman yelling, the MSM can say whatever they want, post it to a thousand news sources and blogs, scream it from every rally - it doesn’t make it true.

Really. Based on what facts?
In Colorado this would be a legal use of deadly force. If the story is true. Even if someone initiates a fight, if that person then withdraws and makes it clear he does not want to fight any more he has the right to use deadly force if the other person persues him and he feels like his life is in danger. So if Zimmerman followed him or even had words with him that doesn’t give Martin the right to attack him. If someone was on top of me bashing my head into concrete I’d shoot him too and worry about the consequences afterwards. If the story in the article is true.

Did anyone see his friend Joe (I forget his last name) who appeared on the Today Show this morning? While Ann Curry furiously tried to get him to denounce Zimmerman, he defended him with class, style and intelligence.

You are making things up. The 911 operator suggested not to follow, it was not an order. It is NOT against the law to get out of your vehicle. It is, however, against the law to bash someone's head repeatedly into a sidewalk.

This is why police do these reports a.s.a.p. after the incident.
Not doubting for a moment he received head injury and broken nose, but can someone suggest a reason why he would not go to a hospital for that? I’d be worried about possible hematoma, or passing out and winding up even more injured on the way home.
