Multiple suspensions paint complicated portrait of Trayvon Martin
The Miami Herald ^ | 3/26/12 | Frances Robles

Miami Gardens teenager Trayvon Martin was suspended from school in October in an incident in which he was found in possession of women’s jewelry and a screwdriver that a schools security staffer described as a “burglary tool,” The Miami Herald has learned.

Trayvon, who claimed that an unnamed friend had given him the jewelry, was not disciplined because of the discovery, but was instead suspended for graffiti, according to a Miami-Dade Schools Police report obtained by The Miami Herald.

The jewelry was turned over to the cops for further investigation.

I just went back and re-read the article, and discovered that the jewelry had been impounded and photos of the items sent to the police. I wonder why they didn’t send the actual jewelry? The police should have been called to come to the school, to take possession of the items, interview Martin, and provide him with a detailed receipt of the items that were confiscated. Why the school became a repository for possible stolen property is beyond me.

I am guessing that the crime in that neighborhood will be down significantly now.

purely coincidentally though...

Martin was a 17 year old, 6'3” football player weighing in at about 160 lbs

My son was about 6'4” and 175 lbs when he played high school a football at 17 years old so he was a “bean pole” just like Martin has been described as.

Despite being a “bean pole”, my son could easily bench press 285 lbs and curl over 100 lbs for multiple sets of 12 reps. He was also an accomplished wrestler and could throw a heck of mean punch, and when you are in the 6'3”-6'4” range you have a huge reach advantage over a much smaller opponent like Zimmerman

At the time I was middle age, 6'0”, 235 lbs and could bench press over 300 lbs and was actually stronger than he was in the weight room, but I have no doubt he could have hurt me really bad if he was angry and push came to shove.

Zimmerman was pushing 30, 5'3” tall and 200 lbs and reputedly not in the greatest of shape.

It would be a mistake to underestimate how badly Martin could hurt Zimmerman and how mismatched the fight between an in shape 17 year old 6'3”, 160 lb football player and a an out of shape 30 year old 5”3”, 200 lb man would be.

"The jewelry was turned over to the cops for further investigation."

Not according to the article:

"School police impounded the jewelry and sent photos of the items to detectives at Miami-Dade police for further investigation."

School police? Are these Rent-a-cops?

If he wants to be Trayvon he’d better clear it with Momma Martin—she’s got the rights to the name and a lawyer to enforce it.

Why do they keep using that picture of him when he was 12 years old? Why do the news stories still say he was in a gated community?

Propaganda and opinion manipulation. We are being played.

I’m not sure where I read it, but George Zimmerman is reportedly 5’9”. Wherever I read it, I considered it a legitimate source, and it makes more sense to me than 5’3”.

I lived in a town where that was the standard pattern for burglaries. They didn’t take anything big, they’d just swoop in, grab the jewelry or even change off the dresser top, and be on their way.

The article also mentioned that he had a watch in his bag. He sounds to me like a typical “dresser-top burglar.”

I live in FLA, not Miami though (different country), and the cops at the schools I went to were all real officers with the city I lived in.

She (Travon's mother) is expected to appear Tuesday before House Democrats in Congress in a quest to have Florida’s controversial “Stand Your Ground” law examined.

Didn't take long for the Dems to choose the next Sandra Fluke.

He doesn’t look like Barrack’s son. Perhaps this one takes after his paternal grandma, Ann Durham.
