Trayvon Martin, the Florida teenager shot dead during a scuffle with a neighborhood watchman, was suspended from his Miami school three times over the past year, according to the family attorney.
The revelation that Martin, 17, was dogged by disciplinary problems at school was the latest salvo in a war of leaks meant to bolster each side amid rising tension over the Feb. 26 shooting. Martin's parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, will appear before a House panel today and rallies continue around the country demanding that George Zimmerman, the 28-year-old watchman who shot Martin, be arrested.
Martin may have cut a more imposing figure than previously known. Recent pictures on the web and social media show him with gold dental grill and making obscene gestures to the camera. In addition, Martin's Miami school records show that he has been suspended three times. Family attorney Benjamin Crump confirmed to ABC News that Martin had been slapped with a 10 day school suspension after a bag with suspected marijuana was found in his backpack.
Last year Martin was suspended for spraying graffiti on school grounds. The Miami Herald reported that the school guard who stopped him searched his backpack and found 12 items of women's jewelry and a flathead screw driver that the guard believed to be a "burglary implement." But Martin was never charged or specifically disciplined for the incident. Crump alleged that the Sanford police had leaked damaging information about Martin into order to muddy the case, calling it a "conspiracy."

Women’s jewelry? Screwdriver? At SCHOOL??? What’s THAT about???? These facts,plus the drugs and various twitter “tweets” (”**** some bi***”) paint a picture of a young punk...or at least that he was well on his way to becoming one.Although I don’t have nearly enough evidence to be sure my hunch is that the shooter was justified...that the kid *did* assault him without *real* (as opposed to imagined) provocation.

He is an official victim. Therefor all the bad things he did, that can now be mentioned, are someone else’s fault.

Hey "trapped"...just wondering,are you,in fact,in Canada? If so,how much coverage is this getting in the *Canadian* (as opposed to the US) press? I know that many Candians live close enough to the border to get US radio and TV and obviously you can read many US papers on the web. I know it's getting at least a *bit* of coverage in the British press and at least one Australian paper had a piece on it.
It’s amazing how the media, professionally outraged such as Al Sharpton, Black Panthers, politicians, all weighed in and rushed to judgement before all of the facts were known.
Is the media backpedaling now? They are saying these are disturbing reports about the type of person Trayvon apparently was?
Is the media upset that Trayvon was apparently headed down the wrong road? Or are they upset that their rush to judgement is making them look foolish in retrospect?
Or, is the bottom line still that he is black? And as a black man, Trayvon is a member of an officially aggrieved group. Is the bottom line still going to be that Zimmerman was full of racial animosity?
Now that the well has been poisoned, will these professional agitator types such as Black Panthers ever be satisfied? For example, a grand jury is supposed to look into this case. If the grand jury does not return an indictment, will the Black Panthers again be outraged?
Or, if it did go to trial, but they don’t get a conviction, will they be outraged, and try to whip people into a frenzy at that point?
Could we see a rerun of the Rodney King riots, or the riots of the ‘60s?

I live two hours north of Detroit in London, Ontario. There is quite a bit of coverage here (same type of agenda driven coverage; most of it horrible) of the events in Florida. I don’t watch Canadian news much.

It is becoming more obvious to me that this kid fancied himself a gang banger. I’m betting that we will hear about what gang he was in at some point.
Can you or somebody else tell me exactly how this came to the attention of the media in the first place? I live in Florida (although not near Sanford) and I honestly didn't see much of anything about this until about last week. Who started it off?
Also, while I think it is possible that they could prevail in a civil claim against the HOA or the neighborhood watch group (normally, neighborhood watch people aren't armed, precisely to prevent things like this), that isn't what they want. They won't be satisfied with anything less than criminal homicide charges against Zimmerman.
I hope Florida holds fast and that the courts do not knuckle under, the way they have done in virtually every other situation where a pressure group has been howling for blood.
What we need is a “Skittles Summit.”
