Neighbors are calling on prosecutors to drop charges against an 80-year-old owner of a local tavern who allegedly shot a burglar in his Englewood home on the South Side.
"If a man can't defend himself from harm, what can he do?" asked Darryl Smith, surrounded at a news conference by dozens of longtime Englewood residents and activists. "If he hadn't defended himself, we would be here for a different reason -- because an intruder came in and killed him.
"We're outraged as a community and we're calling for the state's attorney's office to drop the charges," he added. "This man has done nothing wrong."
Police say Homer Wright and his wife were sleeping when someone broke into their home in the 6400 block of South Morgan Street about 6:30 a.m. Monday. The intruder, identified by police as Anthony Robinson, broke through several boards and entered through a rear bathroom window attempting to steal some liquor.
Wright was awakened by his wife and grabbed a handgun and shot Robinson in the lower right leg, police said.
Robinson, 19, of the 6000 block of South Wood Street, was charged with felony burglary after he was treated at St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center and released.
Wright was charged with one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon...

Homer stood his ground.
Second amendment matter. A Constitutional right that third world politicians cannot stand.
“If a man can’t defend himself from harm, what can he do?” asked Darryl Smith....
Ain’t it funny how that question doesn’t apply to George Zimmerman.
I go for the homeowner, who probably is not allowed to own a gun in liberal-land.
Of course, we’re talkin’ Chicago...where you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villany.
IOW, Wright was right to exercise his rights.
Aint it funny how that question doesnt apply to George Zimmerman.
If it is black on black it’s O-tay
Actually he gave up those rights with two prior gun related convictions.
I do however believe that certain rights should be restored post conviction and fulfilling any imposed penalties.
I will always think I have a right to defend me and mine.
How can a man who has two prior Convictions for guns hold a liquor license?
Well it is Chicago, and the man despite convictions was home, the burglar wasn.t
I vote for jury nullification.
Wonder if Wright has any relatives in the clergy? Wonder if Robinson has any relatives living in the White House?
Reporter to Wright: “So what you did was right?”
Wright: Ha, ha, ha...(at the stupidity of the young libtards question)
Yup. If I’m on the jury, Homer’s walking.
I know what you are saying, but you and I won’t be on the jury. I wonder if there’s some way we can help Homer Wright out...by sending dough. I’m just speaking for myself because I don’t know if others already do this, but we should start sending people that are under attack by left and its machine money for their defense. I know the homeschooling organization does this for homeschoolers under attack but I think you have to be a paid member to their organization. Does the NRA set up fundraisers for people exercising their 2nd amendment rights? Does anyone know or how to find out? What about George Zimmerman? Does anyone have a defense fund going for him?
I couldn’t find anything on a defense fund only this from Lucianne...someone else thinking along the same lines.

So the 80-year-old small businessman has two prior weapons convictions. From similar situations? When you own a tavern in an area where there’s crime, you may have to use a gun once in a while.
Chicago’s draconian gun laws make the term “weapons conviction” meaningless. Gimme the details on that or don’t bring it up.
This was a good shoot. He didn’t kill the kid and he protected his property. If he sets up a defense fund, I’ll give to it.
Oh and Homer Wright is an Army Veteran. Anthony Robinson a big POS.
