I bought a very nice ford focus last sept for 8k, with 73k miles. I am very surprised how much I like the car, I just wanted better gas mileage but it has turned out to be a car that is fun to drive.

Today’s econ cars, with power windows, locks, etc, are equivalant to the lux cars of the 70’s. Yes, if you want new then 18k is about the minimum for a decent car.

This vehicle was the club soccer mobile. Lots of miles around the Southeast. We carried ours and theirs. Shin guards always went in the topper.

In our household, Mom drives the 15 year old Explorer and Dad drives the 8 year old Expedition.

Not only do the kids not buy new cars, the Moms and Dads don’t either.

Considering that the cost of a new car today
is the cost of a house when I went to high school
I don’t blame them. I have never owned a new car
in my life and the three I own now range in age
from 20 to 70 years old.

The two oldest, I can work on MYSELF!

They have been brainwashed to detest the American Dream.

Family, children, home ownership, hot cars, Dodger dogs.

That, and the fact that all the jobs that could lead to the above have been taken by illegal aliens.

Why not just pick a side?

I always hear this disinformation. “there’s no difference”. Why can’t we all get along?

My last two American cars were made here, in American ... FACTORIES.

Not places they bolt together prefab imported tinker toys.

Factories. Both have been supurb. Choose to believe that or not, but American cars are very good now. And rock solid.

And frankly, there’s nothing quite like driving where everyone is in an import, most of which have an American flag on the back to (ineffectively) compensate for EXACTLY THAT - and proudly, confidently drive: the real thing.

Buy American.

Nailed it. We are not really free any more, we only fool ourselves now. There are so many laws now that you cannot move without breaching some law. We are shackled and it was all sold as safety with the promise of the government to protect us. The government has become a tyrant that has enslaved us.

“my Mom’s Pinto”
While wearing a much younger man’s clothes I was crammed into the back of one of those things with a couple other suckers, and we were on an icy I-70.
We were bumped from behind, and I almost kicked that big rear window out. But we didn’t burst into flames that day. Remember that minor defect?

“I understand that some or even many of the “rank and file” folks aren’t leftists, but the dickwads they vote in to lead their union are. “

Cool, you get it. There are many people on this site that think we should buy Fords (or GM or Chrysler) because “the fellas” that build the cars are just like us.

But they are not - we did not vote for a Communist to lead us, they have voted, time and time again, for Communists to lead their unions. And it’s nothing new. It was so bad during World War 2 that FDR had to cut a deal with the mob, just to get dock workers to do their job.

Unions need to be deleted and erased from our memories. They are, by far, the biggest NIGHTMARE this country has ever seen.

Not really. Based on a search of “Ford Pinto Exploding” I was ~4 or 5 y/o. But like I said, it was the American Trabant - a POS deathtrap.

One good memory of the Pinto: A drive-in double feature of “The Island of Dr. Moreau” and “Star Wars”.

This showcases the insanity of the implacable liberals.

People in America have too many cars. We’re evil.

Now people in America aren’t buying cars. They’re evil.

Bipolar, hypocritical, out of their minds, liberals.

The answer: Obama’s economy is why they aren’t buying cars. Thank Cash for Clunkers getting rid of a lot of the cars young people and lesser well off, or frugal people buy.

I’ll join you when the UAW shows some sign of not being OWNED by the Democrats. Until then, I might as well hand just over a few thousand dollars to the Democrats instead of buying an American car - cheaper that way and the same result.

Of course it won’t. But I saw my (Republican) Congressman get thrown out of office from absolutely HORRIBLE union advertising - he never had a chance to fight back.

I simply will not subsidize the Democrats, but you’re welcome to spend your money as you wish.

When I was young you needed a car to go places, to see your friends and of course you needed a back seat...

But now kids have their computers, cellphones, and twitter and facebook accounts and its just as easy to sit around in your parents basement and stay in contact with your friends than drive anywhere...

I remember there was a thread a while back saying they aren't interested in sex either so no need for the back seat...

You subsidize the democrats by having a job yourself via ever-increasing taxes.

Democrats give that tax money to people whose jobs have been lost to foreign workers.

Just saying.

Even smashing a union, still results in more democrats.

What we’re doing now, isn’t working. The GOP needs to become aggressively pro-America once again.

“Free trade” has been a GOP disaster.

“This has been the argument since Ross Perot warned us of the “Giant Sucking Sound”. What we’ve seen since then, is that Perot was right. Buy American.”

Unfortunately Perot was looking at the symtom, not the cause. The cause was and is THE UNIONS, THE EPS, OSHA, and our LAWYERS.

Perot, instead, blamed it on Mexico. Mexico was simply filling the void that we abandoned in our quest for Utopia.

Now it’s the Chinese. If anyone thinks that people would be better off today with union-made everything, rather than Chinese imports, they are insane. Maybe other don’t remember, but I certainly remember the cost of just about EVERYTHING before the Chinese started moving in and selling cheaper (roughly 4 times higher than today). The US companies that could fight back (i.e., non-union) gave China some competition, other companies (and unionized workers) got EXACTLY what they deserved, for their attitude.

"Unions need to be deleted and erased from our memories."

I agree, except that the unions that once employed us evil "males" with families have nearly all been busted by the real, government-linked, global corporate commies (now in collaboration to help their Chi-Com buddies destroy our country). I, as a union member, made $3.80 an hour as a laborer and $7 an hour making fine custom parts in the late 70s and early 80s. I spent seven years as a combat engineer (combat--light, infantry related type), while my employers chased other men's wives in their offices (before they conspired with foreign communist nations against the USA).

I agree with your desire to get rid of unions, because that, along with other measures, is shutting down revenues enough to eventually lay off hundreds of thousands of overpaid, regulatory and other local government tyrants using federal funding. That, in turn, with stop the other half of the traitorous debt regime from stealing from everyone else (their government-linked globe-trotting buddies in the not-really-private sector).

As for Democrats, they're only half of the commie equation, and you're looking at a big no-vote, come year's end. Let the bond collapses commence. It will be for our own good. Wait'll you see how the hard working and technically inclined folks do after the default process ahead (better than any fat bureaucrat or government-fed service).

Friends, avoid buying anything that you don't really need. Become more self-sufficient each month, and learn to make something useful. Starve the B.

Over half of new passenger vehicles sold in Europe are diesel.

Mileage over 30 is commonplace higher too.

Yet no American maker offers us this option.

VW (VW, Audi), BMW, Mercedes offer diesels.

Too big to fail has cost imagination, risk taking, etc.

300 HP

Mustang has come very close to this in a V6!

Also, take a trip down memory lane and look @ our older cars..they had style!..Now everything is eco-boxes..We went from cool sounding names like trident v8/440 six pack/ to eco-boost and 1.2 liter turbo... Ask a young kid who is Delorian,Iaccoca,Shelby,or larry Shenoda...I guarantee you.The answer will not be “the creator of the GTO,Mustang,AC cobra or boss 302 Mustang..We need Harley earl back..(Google it if your under 40..LOL)
