Smaller than some, bigger than a few.

But this one is the thinnest I’ve seen.

Thanks for clarifying.

Cheers!

IMHO, Bond Arms make some of the best derringers around. Dad has one of theirs that shoots 45lc or .410’s. It is fairly heavy and certainly much thicker and it’s not real small. I liked it, but saw no advatage to having one. I have a Kahr PM9 that is lighter, thinner and maybe smaller and holds 7 rounds. There probably are smaller derringers out there.

.45 from a 2inch barrel.

1. Hang on tightly.

2. MV of 400fps?

I once fired a S&W scandium alloy .38 Special with some +P ammo. I thought the 2” revolver was going to jump out of my hand. Those lightweight guns are nice to carry, but they’re not exactly a joy to shoot.

I bet it has a brutal recoil.

The law of conservation of momentum guarantees it. A gun which had the same mass as the bullet would result in the gun being propelled backwards with the same speed as the bullet going forward. This thing would NOT be fun to shoot.

They couldn’t have put a pair of iron sights on the thing? If they’re only giving you two shots you really want to be sure they count, no?

Well S&W all but admits that this one will break your wrist if you fire it, but considering its purpose is to be jammed into the mouth of an attacking bear before firing, I guess they figure that's a good trade off:

This 2-shot .45 ACP derringer is very similar to the 4-shot .357 Mag derringer or COP (Concealed Off-duty Pistol). The COP was stainless steel and well made, but it's high price killed it and the company. Original COP derringers are prized by collectors.

The porting should help with the recoil from such a light pistol and heavy caliber. Sights aren't really necessary because is is a very CLOSE range defensive pistol. As far as recoil goes, if you had to use the Heizer Double Tap to defend yourself, odds are that your adrenaline would be off the scale and you wouldn't notice the recoil. I'd be interested in the Double Tap, if the company offered a “Double Double Tap” with 4-shots. I like the extra two rounds of life insurance. This is a perfect backup pistol.

The goal of that gun was to get a soldier’s real gun away from them.

Kind of strange that the gun that is the topic of the thread looks so similar to the Liberator.
