An 80-year-old Army veteran was arrested after he shot a burglar who had broken into his Chicago-area home.
Police have charged Homer Wright with one felony count of unlawful gun use. They charged the man who broke into Wright’s home, 19-year-old Anthony Robinson with felony burglary.

Sounds like the Homeowner had some firearms violations himself and may have been a prohibited person himself.
That being said, I expect a jury to toss this, or the prosecutor before hand. It’s untriable. This guy is eighty for Petes sake.

The home owner was forcefully interfering with government sanctioned redistribution of wealth therefore the home owner is guilty - in Chicago such action might even rise to a hate crime.
In Texas the guy would get scolded for letting the perp live.........

Looks like his crime was possessing a gun after he had been convicted of crimes involving guns twice in the past. So the issue is the lifetime ban, not the use of the gun.
