"I will closely monitor this situation to assure that the market can continue to accommodate a reduction in purchases of petroleum and petroleum products from Iran," he said in a statement.

Ahh yeah, UN wrist-slap incoming.
I read somewhere, years ago, that if you marked out 3'x 3' boxes, every human on earth could stand in a fraction of Florida.
0bama: I’m watching the situation, focused like a laser, actually!!
No, Canada is the largest single country supplying oil to the US, but it is ~2.2 MMBPD from Canada while we use 16.5 MMBPD of refined product (another 2.2 MMBPD of natural gas liquids for our total petroleum use.

We import about 4 MMBPD from OPEC nationa.
That is funny. If the oil was produced within the earth at the same rate we use it today, going back a few hundred million year, the oil would cover the earth several miles deep.
Thanks the invisib1e hand.
"NOW what would you expect to pay! Bwa! Haw! Haw!"
And, more importantly, the shortfall of oil production that will result from leveling Iran will reduce the worldwide supply — Canada will get more for its product from its US customers, or sell it elsewhere.
Oil evaporates much like water. Does that explanation make sense to your lack of understanding of the deception that the ignorant (and biased) “nay sayers” claim about nature? There are many vapors in our air which exist and nourish plants and the earth itself.
If you pore oil on a field it will at first kill most vegetation. In a year or so you will find the field flourishing as it as never done before because oil is organic and when it breaks down becomes an perfect fertilizer.
I'm a geologist. To put it mildly, that statement is news to me. Or is this like the AGW consensus thingy (I sided with Linus Pauling on that one).
The good news is, the image didn’t appear until I clicked on it as a link.
The bad news is, it worked after that.

How about when oil is broken down with dispersants, lots and lots of dispersant?
Then explain why wells that were pumped completely dry were full to the brim 3 or so decades later (in the greater majority of cases.)
Have you knowledge of abiotic oil? It is found very (Very) deep under the oceans and in some cases under continents (such as is the case of the tar sands in Canada.)
There is so much that those exploring it can’t even estimate how much there is because they find it in unfathomable amounts virtually everywhere they look.
I lost a friend who told me of this in the mid 1980’s. He went down with 5 others in the Amazon Jungle (helicopter) and their bodies were not found for almost 4 years.
I am a geologist and have been working in the oil industry well over three decades. Where are these marvelous wells? Kindly cite examples.
Have you knowledge of abiotic oil?
Yes. It is the scam used to produce investors. Unscrupulous promoters sell over 200% of a prospect, drill a well where there will be no production, and when it does not produce, pocket the difference.
We do our best to police the industry of such scam artists.

The Canadian Tar sands are so deep, they are pit mined at the surface.
Who found abiotic oil very deep beneath the oceans? Where? Do you know how deep very deep beneath the oceans is? What oil rigs are capable of drilling in that part of the ocean?

This must be the best kept secret in the industry--even the industry doesn't know about it.
Most of the components of crude oil does not evaporate. Some of the lighters components will, but the medium and heavy components oxidize first and then breakdown into simpler components, similar to combustion but not as fast.
But that says nothing to the volume of oil that would have to be in the earth to make that claim true.
The Facts - the core of the earth converts carbon, oxygen (etc) via nuclear reaction to produce oil (abiotic as well as anabiotic) in (Pardon the exaggeration) GIGANTIC quanties that there is no way possible to calculate just how much is actually produced.
Well Smokin’ Joe - - you have NO idea how powerful the core of the earth is nor do you have much faith in technology which is finding ways to drill deeper virtually every day.
Give man credit where credit is due and blame where blame is deserved.
British Petrol made a first stab at deep “abiotic” oil and has consequently learned that they much use MUCH MORE Concrete Capping techniques than they originally applied in the Gulf of Mexico.
They also failed to utilize a technique of funnel capture and capture separation which would have resolved everything and produced (MASSIVE) (I repeat “MASSIVE”) quantities of abiotic oil but due to political pressure and their own insecurity they failed to take advantage of their (almost) windfall and good fortune due to bad press and their stumbling over their own feet in trying to cover up their original BOO BOO.
