Posted on 03/31/2012 6:59:26 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer
Who would have thought it? Given the flack the Chevy Volt has received at Republican hands over the last few months, former Republican president George H. W. Bush dealt the Volt attackers a serious blow, deciding to purchase one of GMs extended range electric cars.
The Volt, which has become a symbol of all thats wrong with the Obama administration according to a number of conservatives, might finally be getting a break. In addition to Bush Sr.s purchase of a Volt (for his son Neil), theres growing sentiment among the right that the car might not be that bad after all.

Barbara wanted a car he could get out of the driveway....
Nobody reads the story anymore. He bought it for his son Neil.
Does George H.W. still have Secret Service protection?
Good...then they can push.
These elites have no concept of market economics. 99% cannot afford a stupid decision to buy a $50,000 lemon that goes 12 miles before blowing up.
Apparently you missed the article about GHWB endorsing the Mittster.
George Senior is the gift that keeps on giving...
All the Bush’s are New World Order socialists, Bush I gave us him no offshore drilling exec. order, and stupid II waited till 5 months before his term ended to cancel it...
Lay off Bush. He bought the volt to use as a golf cart.
Don't forget, you and your kind are not the regulators of the entire free world like you think you are.
The rest of the world goes on without you. If you want to influence it in any way, you will have to stop making yourself look like a completely cynical and anti-social jack wagon.
GHWB was a handler sent in to keep Reagan from going ‘too far’.
He thought it was a golf cart and purchased it for his rounds at Kennebunkport CC.
We think alike. LOL!
are people still confused??
he’s a progressive.
just like his sons.
just like bjclinton ... and 0failure.
they’re ALL progressives.
Right. I try to save money and keep regular expenses down in any reasonable way I can. But even with a huge tax-payer subsidy, a Chevy Volt is an unimaginably stupid way to save money.
This is nothing but a politically correct, greenie gesture. Only someone with more money than he knows what do do with would do this.
The fact that people find this surprising is just testimony to the power of the MSM to push total lies.
Young Bush was incredibly environmentally aware and conservation minded. His ranch was what conservationists would like America to really be. It was only about 2000 sq feet, and ran on unique and green fuels. Gore on the other hand had a monster mansion that wasted energy like no tomorrow. That they are “surprised” the Bushes are like this means they just believe their own propaganda.
And the Bushes are really RINOs, anyway.
“Most of us cant afford to make a $40k statement.”
I can, but why would I want to say:
“I am a smug, utterly ignorant, condescending douche.”
“Is there a member of the Bush family who’s not a d-bag?”
The word “flak” derives from the German words Flieger Abwehr Kanone = antiaircraft gun = antiaircraft fire = opposition to something. The correct word in this application for AutoGuide.com is “flak”.
Yes, I was addressing the stereo type of Conservatives being out just to waste gasoline, when we know about 50% of those in higher consumption vehicles are Democrats. Just look at that ebay motor listing for the President’s car when he took his choice, a Chrysler 300C with a Hemi V8,
Yeah, its got a Hemi in it. Thats probably what led aspiring presidential candidate Obama to ditch the muscle car in favor of a Ford Escape hybrid to shore up his green credentials back in 2008.
“GHWB is, and always has been a Globalist.”
Yes. A very sly one too.
“and has established a legacy that will endure for centuries.”
It may prove to be true. NWO Skull and Bones boy from the Bohemian Grove successfully derailed the Reagan revolution and conservative progress for over a generation already.
You, my friend, are a fruitcake.
Continue with your delusions...
A quick reminder why George H. W. was a one-termer.
I had the same thought: there’s a word for a 56-year-old man who needs his father to buy him a car:
It means, he doesn’t have anywhere to go very fast.
Any politician who gets on stage with the likes of Obama to promote anything is not a conservative in my book.
Bush (either the block (HW) or the chip (GW)), Romney, McCain, Graham, Nixon, Snowe, Collins, Brown - all have one thing in common: “compassionate conservatism” - the likes of which got us into this mess to begin with. George senior can go F himself!
Do you always hate and denigrate great Americans as viciously as this?...
If anything, I would say you are jealous, or you are hopelessly ignorant. The least you can do, is show some deserved respect for this great man, however, I think that there is no such ability anywhere within your hollow interior.
KMA and I promise I'll pick out any random d-bag Bush out of the pile and say something nice about him.
Yes. He just wanted one with more options than a standard golf cart has.
And you paid for it, bud, and continue paying the generous salary and health benefits, no, not only of papa, but of his SS chauffer! And the chauffer’s family!
Even though I don't agree with some of what the elder Bushes say/do, the general hatred toward GOP leadership does get vile at times.
And I am very greatful to the Bushes as wartime Presidents. They fought hard to keep us safe and that doesn't deserve the vitriol they get from both left and right.
For a 10 year old, you are way ahead of your class.
George HW Bush is a war hero and a very great American, who risked his life for his country and served his country up until he retired. He truly deserves far more respect than what he is getting here.
And, thank you for acknowledging that.
So now Americans get to pay for your Volt TWICE, George “read my lips.”
1. We pay for the bailout.
2. We pay for your big FAT pension for the Volt.
Is GHWB running again to have to posture? Are we about to see him visit a supermarket to see a checkout scanner for the 2nd time in his life?
WAS...an American hero....
“fought and won vs. the British as they made their way down the Hudson..”
If this were his only car, I could see a reason for some profound point.
Since it is not, it is just another story about a rich guy with lots of toys. His money, a non-story.
When I bought my Prius in 2003, I got a LOT of trash talk, and it was (and still is) my ONLY car. I bought it because I was curious.
