CNN used their favorite type of Republican.
” At first glance, the death of Trayvon Martin seemed to be a straightforward example of ugly, racial conflict resulting in the killing of an innocent black teenager by a white man,....”
First glance? Where? CNN ? ABC ? CBS ? MSNBC? Video?
What a maroon : )
Good find! This is a thoughtful reconstruction, and at least a possible scenario.
Suggest posting as a thread. It may get lost here.
I think the media puts out all the crap and it gives a one sided view of situations...back in the 50’s our group of friends were both colored (not a insult in those days) and white....afro, black, afro americans etc came in during the mid 60’s..but hard core thugs do exist of all colors..some are just punks....
I used to live in a gated community. It waz gated to keep out the riff-raff and criminals in the surrounding neighborhood. It cost us an extra 2,000 dollars a year to live there, but it was worth it. And yes many expensive homes were there.
Yes absolutely there is a connotation in “gated community” that goes well beyond the simple denotation of the two words. It wasn’t necessary for the news media to mention it in the Zimmerman case except they wanted to impose a narrative on the reader.
Why did they even mention it, genius? There’s your answer, even if you don’t like it.
re: “They would be bigots. And prejudiced. Im not among them.”
So, if I understand what you’re saying, you think the media is simply trying to be accurate when they keep refering to Zimmerman’s neighborhood as a “gated community”?
And, if I’m wrong please correct me, you think that anyone who believes the media IS attempting to create a template of “bigoted white community vs. poor black kid” by constantly using the term “gated community” are themselves racist and bigoted?
If the back yard is gated, does my dog live in a “gated community”?
The next time I hear about a pit bull escaping from someone’s back yard and mauling somebody I’ll be expecting the news to say he escaped from a “gated community”. LOL
” Yes absolutely there is a connotation in gated community that goes well beyond the simple denotation of the two words. It wasnt necessary for the news media to mention it in the Zimmerman case except they wanted to impose a narrative on the reader.”
Like constant pictures of a 12 year old Trayvon?
>>>If the back yard is gated, does my dog live in a gated community?
If the yard is also in an area where there is limited street access, and that access is controlled by gates.
Nice logical fallacy known as “straw man” you fling like a hand full of poop thrown by a monkey in hopes it sticks...
The media should be held complicit in any injustice inflicted upon Zimmerman.
There has been an absolute disregard for evidence and due process notwithstanding the loss of life.
The media is using the term “gated community” as bigots in furtherance of their meme - and a few people here are eating that crap with a spoon, and believe it as gospel.
The rest of us can see through the meme, and know that the media - especially MSNBC and Rev. Al are using this case to foment racial tensions, and incite further violence.
>>>And, if Im wrong please correct me, you think that anyone who believes the media IS attempting to create a template of bigoted white community vs. poor black kid by constantly using the term gated community are themselves racist and bigoted?<<<
Anyone saying “gated community” is synonymous with “mansions” and/or “bigoted white community” is indeed showing their own prejudice and bigotry, and are falling victim to the media meme.
“targeting, arresting, convicting blacks and ultimately killing us is big business.”
Arresting them is big business for those who profit from the Drug War, some of whom are black drug dealers. They happen, also, to make up the vast, vast majority of those who kill black people. So why doesn’t Jackson go picket South Central LA, or something?
“A random act of journalism from CNN”
Too late. People remember the original story, and CNN knows that. This costs them nothing.
“Youd lose. In my world, ‘gated community’ is any area where access is controlled by gates. Doesnt matter what kind of housing is behind the gates.”
Would you be comfortable admitting most people aren’t Mr. Literal like you, and that the MSM, as well as everyone else, is fond of using prejudicial language to mislead people? Further, you are aware, aren’t you, that “gated community” has meaning beyond “a community set behind gates,” correct? And one of these meanings, the best know meaning, is a community exclusive of people who aren’t rich and white? That much, at least, you can admit.
Read down the thread.
If you are equating “gated community” with “mansions” - you are falling for the media’s line of crap = hook, line and sinker. Falling for the propaganda being spewed my the media.
Which phrase carries a connotation of “wealth” and which one implies “poor”?
“lives in a gated community”
“lives in a trailer park”
So you’re a “bigot” too!
More logical fallacy from you.... thanks.
And Im smart enough to not fall for that meme”
Yes, but are you smart enough to know that the code word exists, and that other people fall for it? If so, why did you bother posting in the first place? Because all the original poster was saying is that it is a code word, and that the MSM intentionally used it to trick people into thinking Martin was killed for being black in a rich, white neighborhood.
What I’m lamenting here is that there actually are FREEPERS who can’t see though the media meme, and actually are falling for the crap, and equate in their minds “gated community” exclusively with “mansion”. It’s idiocy.
“People who jump to that conclusion are prejudiced, and bigoted. Youre in good company with Hulka. Congrats on that.”
Oh, come off it. They aren’t coming to that conclusion, if you could read their post through the haze of superiority and self-satisfaction at being able to take the words “gated” and “community” literally. They are concluding that the MSM wants people to be prejudiced and bigoted and whatever other bad names you can think up. And in order to do that, which you’d understand if took a moment to ponder it, they’d have to realize “gated community” has a literal and a coded meaning, wouldn’t they?
re: “The media is using the term gated community as bigots in furtherance of their meme”
Okay, now you get it - that’s all others are pointing out - they are not agreeing that it’s true - only that this is what the media is doing.
re: “ - and a few people here are eating that crap with a spoon, and believe it as gospel.”
No, I think you’re reading something into their comments that is not there - you just admited that the media is attempting to further their own agenda - that’s what everyone is trying to get you to agree with.
re: “The rest of us can see through the meme, and know that the media - especially MSNBC and Rev. Al are using this case to foment racial tensions, and incite further violence.”
I totally agree - that’s all everyone is saying (at least the one’s I’ve read in response to your posts.
“And i DO see exactly what the media is doing, but Im smart enough to see past it.”
Now you’re getting ridiculous. The original poster can see past it, obviously, otherwise he wouldn’t be able to take the MSM to task for it.
re: “Anyone saying gated community is synonymous with mansions and/or bigoted white community is indeed showing their own prejudice and bigotry, and are falling victim to the media meme.”
No - no one is saying that - this is what the MEDIA is doing. You’ve already admitted that that is what’s happening. Why are you arguing?
As to me, “showing their own prejudice and bigotry”, well, I call your “bigot” card and raise you three bigot cards back at you for assuming I’m bigoted for seeing through the media’s attempt to define “gated community” as “bigoted white community”.
I triple-dog-dare you to over bigot my triple bigot card at you, you bad bigot you!
“If you are equating ‘gated community’ with ‘mansions’ - you are falling for the medias line of crap = hook, line and sinker. Falling for the propaganda being spewed my the media”
I conclude, Keith, that you are blustering and no one, and are on a fool’s errand in the pursuit of nothing. All—got it, all!—the original poster as up to is making exactly—exactly!—the same point you just made: that the media has a line of crap, and is trying to propagandize everyone. You’ve wasted multiple posts and called various people bigotted and prejudiced, for what? To prove that you, personally, don’t immediately think of racial and economic exclusivity when you here the phrase “gated community”?
Well, bravo! Guess who else doesn’t? The original poster. And every other poster who dared argue with you, including me. Know how I know?> Because our position was the same as yours: that the MSM is intentionally using it to mislead people. So what was your noble cause again? That you’re too literal for the rest of us dupes, who by the way have proven themselves unequivocally not to be dupes.
Might I suggest you go tilt at windmills next?
>>>Might I suggest you go tilt at windmills next?
I’ll follow your lead then.
“What Im lamenting here is that there actually are FREEPERS who cant see though the media meme”
What Freepers? Use your eyes, man! No one is responding to you by saying “gated community” = rich, white neighborhood. Everyone’s saying that’s what the MSM wants you to think. Which, by the way, you’ve admitted yourself. So why do you keep posting? What do you think you’re getting at?
Could it be that you’re still offended that the original poster proposed to wager that your knee-jerk response upon hearing “gated community” was to think rich and white? Well, get over it. You’re smart and literal and all good things in the world. Now, can we get back to bashing the MSM?
re: “I conclude, Keith, that you are blustering and no one, and are on a fools errand in the pursuit of nothing. Allgot it, all!the original poster as up to is making exactlyexactly!the same point you just made: that the media has a line of crap, and is trying to propagandize everyone.”
Amen and Amen!
re: “Could it be that youre still offended that the original poster proposed to wager that your knee-jerk response upon hearing gated community was to think rich and white?”
Maybe you’re right. I kept thinking in Keith from Iowa’s posts, “what am I missing” here? Where is anyone arguing the media’s point? No one. I still don’t get Keith’s beef.
>>>No one is responding to you by saying gated community = rich, white neighborhood.
Scroll up. Posts 76, 86, 95 are post where I’m being told “gated community = rich white people in mansions”... and to that, I say “bovine digestive byproduct” — because they’re not. The location of this incident is a gated community consisting of apartments & condos. There are places in this country that call themselves “gated communities” that are made up of condos/apartments/townhomes/ and even mobile homes.
It is bigoted, prejudice, and perpetuation of the media meme and stereotype to assume any mention of “gated community” equates exclusively to “ rich white people in mansions” .
re: “It is bigoted, prejudice, and perpetuation of the media meme and stereotype to assume any mention of gated community equates exclusively to rich white people in mansions.”
So, if we are all “bigots” for seeing through the media “meme” - then, what does that make you?
Smart enough to not be swallowing the media meme.
I hear “gated community”, and the LAST PLACE my mid goes is “mansions with rich white people living in them”. THE LAST PLACE... not the first.
AND, if you’re one of those who’s brain goes straight in mansion-land at the first utterance of “gated community” - you’re not seeing through the media meme - you’re eating up with a spoon, and loving every bite.
According to Rush, NBC edited the 911 tape to eliminate the operator's asking Zimmerman if Martin was black or white, so Zimmerman's response, "He's black" can be used to perpetrate a racist fraud.
I knew this from day 1. So why CNN, did it take you so long? Could it be that your value free news organization was making political hay.
