"I am not a member of any organized political party. I am a Democrat," the American humorist Will Rogers once said. He also said, "Democrats never agree on anything. That's why they're Democrats. If they agreed with each other, they would be Republicans."
Will Rogers must be turning in his grave because this is the year that Democrats are organized and do agree on something the need to defeat the Republicans.
That means if Republicans want to win this election, it's time to unite behind the only candidate that can still win the party's nomination, Mitt Romney, and then explain to voters how the core Republican philosophy of less government and lower taxes will rally the economy.
[SNIP]
Once the general election begins, Republicans must be sure to fight the battle on their terms. They'll have a businessman who created jobs versus a big-spending Democrat who has presided over four years of unemployment. They'll have a man who has succeeded at everything versus a failed president.
And they'll still have the issues that matter most to Americans on their side. According to a December Gallup poll, 64 percent of Americans said the biggest threat to the economy is big government, which can't be good news to Democrats, who love big government. Another 8 percent cited big labor, a Democratic Party ally. Only 26 percent said the same about big business, which traditionally is associated with Republicans.
A strong nominee, a united party, and a coherent message about the dangers of big government versus Obama and his big-government record. If that's what Republicans run with, they'll win.

So, do you have any principles left that are not subject to sacrifice on the altar of perceived political expediency?
"Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote that he is not making a present or a compliment to please an individual--or at least that he ought not so to do; but that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country. "-- Samuel Adams
You are right. After four more years of Obama, this country won’t BE America anymore. Those who are willing to let Obama win the election had better have a plan for how to prevent his grand schemes. If you won’t stop him at the ballot box, then what?
Voting to insure the ouster of Comrade Obama is "infinitely more dangerous to the survival of the republic"?!
Are you serious?!
Never mind ... of course you are. You're PRINCIPLED! :^D
‘If we cant get united over getting rid of the worst president EVER - - - - - - - - - - Then we are stuck on STUPID. . .’
Agree, except ‘the worst president’ should be changed to
‘the worst illegal occupier of the oval office’. Even Chester Arthur was not so bad!
I’m with you. I hate even thinking about it, because Romney turns my stomach (see my posting history as evidence). But Obama detests America and will destroy this country given the chance. No matter how much of a boob he might be, Romney does not, and will not.
Hang in there Brother, we have all had our days on this forum, and I agree with your analysis. Looking at sites like Drudge, who has over 32 million visits per day, 850 million per month, and 11 Billion visits per year, it shows what happens when a site generates interest.
When I first joined this forum, the threads were huge, and participation was massive. Fund raisers only took a few days to complete. And there was a strong sense of civility and unity. It was actually fun to visit here.
Lately, it seems like the most cynical, rude and vitriolic personalities dominate the political threads. I spend most of my time defending myself against all the deep personal attacks that follow my opinions.
Oddly enough, I am still here. But is is getting more difficult to listen to these malcontents rip the throats out of anyone who simply has a different opinion than they do.
Let me ask you this:
If your choice is between:
1. The most liberal president in history.
2. The most liberal governor in history.
3. Someone who agrees with every single item of the political agenda posted on the home page of Free Republic, and who has a twenty year track record of resolutely acting on that agenda.
Who do you vote for?
Those are your words, not mine.
Haha.
I hope Newt and Rick stay in and force a brokered convention.
At the same time, IMHO it’s important for us all to begin contemplating how indeed we can - once whomever wins - find the common ground to unite against one foe.
Let’s agree to disagree.
I want Obama sent packing in November. That’s my goal. Period.
No need to discuss further.
Thx.
How can any conservative principle allow Obama another four years?
We are beyond any lofty, philosophical debates. Its gonna be Obama or the Repub nominee.
Take your pick. You are either for Obama or against him.
If you can’t support his opponent, don’t try to make yourself out as any kind of conservative. Just admit your a zealot and be done with it.
Hey Tom,
The fact that you are running for President as a no name third party candidate, wouldn't have anything to do with your sacrificial principles, eehhh?
Don't talk to me about principles, hypocrite, and what I said still holds, when the shooting starts, get to the other side because you won't be welcome in my foxhole.
First, Obama isn’t simply the most liberal president, he’s the most dangerous. Second, Romney is not the most liberal governor ever, and it seems ridiculous to make that claim. Finally, the gap between what America will look like under Romney and what it will look like under Obama is about like the distance from here to the moon.
‘We could unite around Romney. He stands a decent chance of beating Obama. But, then, whats the point?’
the point is to get rid of obozo and all his thugs/agenda and win the war against his ‘fundamentally changing America’ into a third world country and a islamofascist country!
We need to remove the puppet first, dealing the masters behind the puppet a big blow, then work on removing the power behind the puppet.
We are NOT for romney, but seriously he is not anti-American, not the ‘bowing to Saudy king’ kind, not a muslim, not American-hater, not Jihadist-lover, more subject to influence by a conservative congress and vigilante people.
With obozo, there is NO HOPE!
With any other there is hope!
Do not give up hope!
It seems many here are drinking the santorum ‘nectar’ loaded with big labor unions and big ‘compassionate gov’ and a heavy dose of perceived ‘sainthood’!
Really? Name one other governor in the history of the United States who implemented socialized medicine, complete with $50 co-pay taxpayer-funded abortions, instituted "gay" "marriage," completely homosexualized state government and the public schools, and banned scary looking guns.
Just one name and I'll retract my claim.
If you can't come up with one though, I'll be watching for your admission that I'm correct.
If we keep delaying this, it sends out a message that our side is unstable, undecided and completely lacks unity.
The General public pays very little attention to politics, but they do note that this Republican food fight is starting to effect the outcome. We are creating a strong image of weakness to the voters. The behavior of the malcontents among the base is creating the image to the rest of the voting world, that this ideology is the cause of our own failure.
We really can't afford to let this drag on much further if we hope to win the country back. And the general public is too far gone and ignorant to even understand what is at stake. They will easily vote Obama back in, like they voted for him in the first place.
I was a Cain guy, But I am also for the Country. Voting the ticket, Not easy for me either. But I voted Ford, Dole, McCain because the alternative was worse and now its the end of the country if zer0 gets 4 more. So I’m voting ... morman.
What happened to my party, country?
I’m running because of the my principles. My principles are not dependent on me running. And I have a long political track record to back that up.
Me too, but I get more sick thinking about another 4 years of obama and his crew.
If the bamster gets re-elected then SCOTUS ends up being at least 6-3 if not 7-2 super-liberal and the Constitution and the Country is finished.
I'm 70 years old and have enough money that no matter what this halfrican, communist, mooselimb, prick does, he can't effect me, all that much.
I can leave the US and never look back, except my kids and grandkids, would still be here.
From just a selfish point of view, I don't care, but there are others that follow and someone needs to care about them.
The best to be said about about Romney is that he would merely be a more effective advocate for the Oligarchy than the present advocate has been.
......meaning Flyover Country will only be more thoroughly shafted than Obama’s so far been able to do.
Think effective RomneyCare implementation, “immigrration reform”, and “ carbon credits”......for starters.
No thanks GOP-e......
does it matter who owns the collapse? Once it collaspses, we all fall with it.....
Removing the agent of the collapse is much better than allowing it to collapse!
We seem to be on the same side often, but I’m respectfully not sure I agree.
Any publicity is good publicity, as long as we (all) start to think how despite honorable differences based on deeply held convictions - we can once the time comes - shake hands and turn our attention to the real adversary.
Look at how fascinated the average Jane and Joe in America are with shows like “Survivor” where contestants are one by one voted off the island.
I see the GOP field as a sort of long-running Survivor episode.
The longer the focus is on the contest, the less Obama has a monopoly on the message, and the less time the left has to slime our eventual nominee.
It’s all good.
Let me translate that out of Romney Republican-speak:
"Support a socialist or you're not a conservative."
LOL...hilarious.
Why do you think anyone is going to take you seriously?
4 more years of obozo, there will be no scratch left to reset with!
With the dump-down Americans, the ‘give-me’ obots, and the gung-ho ‘conservative’, we will probably live miserably ever after as slaves to the tyrant you allow to keep the rein!
The collapse is inevitable with the imposition of universal suffrage, there was no Right to vote in the Constitution for a REASON
The Founders warned against enfranchising all, the Washingtonians didn’t listen.
The sooner the collapse happens, the sooner we can pick up the pieces and keep morons from the ballot box again.
Benjamin Franklin: When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.
Alexander Hamilton, Federalist Papers: We are a Republican Government, Real liberty is never found in despotism or in the extremes of democracy...it has been observed that a pure democracy if it were practicable would be the most perfect government. Experience has proved that no position is more false than this. The ancient democracies in which the people themselves deliberated never possessed one good feature of government. Their very character was tyranny; their figure deformity.
John Adams: Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.
Thomas Jefferson: A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where 51% of the people may take away the rights of the other 49%.
James Madison: Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their death.
John Quincy Adams: The experience of all former ages had shown that of all human governments, democracy was the most unstable, fluctuating and short-lived.
Thomas Jefferson: The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.
Benjamin Franklin (maybe): Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.
James Madison: Democracy was the right of the people to choose their own tyrant.
John Adams: That the desires of the majority of the people are often for injustice and inhumanity against the minority, is demonstrated by every page of the history of the world.
Thomas Jefferson: All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that through the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will, to be rightful, must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal laws must protect, and to violate would be oppression.
John Witherspoon: Pure democracy cannot subsist long nor be carried far into the departments of state - it is very subject to caprice and the madness of popular rage.
James Madison: We may define a republic to be - a government which derives all its powers directly or indirectly from the great body of the people, and is administered by persons holding their offices during pleasure for a limited period, or during good behavior. It is essential to such a government that it be derived from the great body of the society, not from an inconsiderable proportion or a favored class of it: otherwise a handful of tyrannical nobles, exercising their oppressions by a delegation of their powers, might aspire to the rank of republicans and claim for their government the honorable title of republic.
John Marshall: Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.
Oscar Wilde: Democracy means simply the bludgeoning of the people by the people for the people.
Winston Churchill: The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter.
Sydney J Harris: Democracy is the only system that persists in asking the powers that be whether they are the powers that ought to be.
G. K., Chesterton: Democracy means government by the uneducated, while aristocracy means government by the badly educated.
George Bernard Shaw: Democracy substitutes election by the incompetent many for appointment by the corrupt few.
Dr Laurence J Peter: Democracy is a process by which the people are free to choose the man who will get the blame.
Alan Coren: Democracy consists of choosing your dictators after they’ve told you what you think it is you want to hear.
Karl Marx: Democracy is the road to socialism.
I’m only 54, and I really don’t plan on leaving the country, no matter what happens. But we are presently headed down a very dark path, led by Obama, and especially by the people surrounding him whose intentions and ambitions are not similarly limited by Obama’s obsessive self-adoration.
Let me translate your position:
Allow Obama to be re-elected or your not a conservative.
Good luck with that.
I’ve said my piece EV, I’ll leave you alone now. We beat this to death on the other thread.
your=you’re
Add to that, the fact that there will be many solid Conservative who will join his administration, who will remind him every day of those promises. This is no longer Liberal Massachusetts we are trying to appease. This is a country that is on the verge of collapse. And if we do not get a strong fiscal manager/professional in office to stop the bleeding immediately, the free enterprise system dies and becomes even more vulnerable to Totalitarian rule.
History has proven this rule all through out time. Just recall what happened to Russia and China under the same scenario.
If you are actually for this, then there is something wrong with the way you think.
If America collapses there will be no “picking up the pieces”.
We will if that happens be invaded and most all of us will die.
That’s the truth.
Russia, China, Iran, Venezuela, even Cuba will not stand on the sidelines watching a rag-tag group emerge from “Galts Gulch” waving Wolverines flags, to build some new world.
They’ll obliterate us all.
If the price of removing Obama is the sacrifice of all principle, it hardly matters.
But, in any case, the idea that I in any way support leaving Obama in office is ludicrous.
I doubt there are any FReepers who have worked harder, or longer, against Obama than myself.
No, you are not correct, your bit of evidence doesn’t support your claim. Certainly you’re aware that the ideas behind the MA health care plan was originally supported by some conservative groups, and even Newt, as an alternative to the far more radical single payer plans (advocated by most Democrat governors, by the way).
The fact that the MA plan emerged under Romney does not make him the most liberal governor in history. Moreover, if MA citizens decide they’re unhappy with their plan, they can organize and vote to remove it. Other states are free to observe the MA experiment and devise other ideas more in line with individual freedom.
But I know you won’t be happy until I give you the name of a more liberal governor. So, just go find a list of all the current Democrat governors, get a sharp pencil, close your eyes, and make a check mark.
"As a conservative site, Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America. We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc. We also oppose the United Nations or any other world government body that may attempt to impose its will or rule over our sovereign nation and sovereign people. We believe in defending our borders, our constitution and our national sovereignty."
Uh, by collapse I mean DC can’t pay it’s obligations, the people don’t get SS checks, a run on the banks, riots, etc.
The army takes over for a while, the Republic is reset.
Provisional military government for 6 months, then new elections for all congressional seats and the WH, incumbents need not apply, strict term limits.
Only tax paying citizens and veterans are enfranchised in the new Republic.
All amendments other than the original bill of rights are repealed.
Dueling legalized within Washington DC limits.
Problem solved
We will never be invaded to a significant degree, that’s the nice part about being oceans away from your enemy
“April Fools!”
....
You totally got me!
Laughing even as my hair is bristling . . .
Of course you couldn't. There isn't one.
America has approached the level of complete moral decay and is about to become irretrievable. The younger generations have been brainwashed with Liberal/Marxist ideology and philosophy. They even decided to vote one in as President, believing that he would create the world that they had been misled into advocating.
I am to the point where I hope it is not too late to stop, but we need to do it immediately. We cannot play around with 3rd party experiments or letting the Democrats take it because our selfish pride is too important to relinquish.
Certainly I'm aware. That's what Romney Republicans do.
The old joke is so often apt these days:
"The Democrats propose to tear down the Washington Monument, and the Republicans respond with a workable plan to do it in three stages."
Why not just say you support Romney because you are a Mormon and stop making ridiculous arguments.
If Barry wins it is important to put the blame where it belongs - on the backs of the liberal elite GOP.
“If you cant support his opponent, dont try to make yourself out as any kind of conservative. Just admit your a zealot and be done with it.”
Yes, vote for Heinrich Himmler. He is a hard working family man who loves his country, and Ernst Rohm is a dissolute and disgusting thug.
You party sell outs deserve your shackles.
The correct answer is NEITHER of these malevolent freaks.
Not sure I agree with your confidence in big oceans as modern day moats.
Military capabilities shrink the virtual size of oceans daily.
Already Mexico and Mexicans are recapturing the American southwest.
Deliberately.
Russia would probably love to take back Alaska, and perhaps let 200,000,000 Chinese troops establish a North American beachhead in the state as a prelude to the sometimes-predicted intrusion of that size and origination.
Cuba is close to Florida.
Canada though an ally, would not likely use military force to defend America - meaning our land border to the north is only as strong as Canada’s willingness to stay near it to keep a focused attack somewhere along it by an invader from elsewhere, from moving south unopposed.
We’re all sorts of vulnerable if we allow ourselves to fall into chaos.
This is the problem I have with “free trade” as well.
All these erstwhile conservative positions, lead not to more conservative realities on the ground.
They lead to American chaos.
In effect, a giant, inadvertently conservative created Cloward-Piven strategy.
With the same result.
“The Democrats propose to tear down the Washington Monument, and the Republicans respond with a workable plan to do it in three stages.”
Nice one! That really is the difference between these Bolshevik and Menshevik parties.
“All these erstwhile conservative positions, lead not to more conservative realities on the ground.
They lead to American chaos.
In effect, a giant, inadvertently conservative created Cloward-Piven strategy.
With the same result.”
Agreed. We have had nothing but globalist presidents since 1989.
These are the only two choices we have. One or the other is going to lead the nation.
Get over it, and try for better choices next time.
OI think there are several who are pushing for it. Don’t forget, it was the MA Supreme Court that established gay marriage. I don’t recall Romney advocating it at a national level. Romney was governor of a politically radical state and was limited in his ability to apply the brakes. This is a man who Rick Santorum labeled “conservative” four years ago and, as another poster put it, has spent the last year promising to govern from a conservative perspective. I believe he will strive for this. Of course I’d prefer a more conservative choice. But when push comes to shove I will vote against Obama by voting for the Republican candidate.
“If Barry wins it is important to put the blame where it belongs - on the backs of the liberal elite GOP.”
And the credulous peons who parrot and obey them.
