Fox Ratings Down; Romney Scores Historic Negative Rating; Women Love Santorum March 29, 2012by Lisa Graas
Mitt, don't count your chickens before they hatch. Sincerely, A Chicken Farmer. Several things are happening that indicate to me that some truth is coming out
albeit slowly. In my humble opinion, Fox News ratings are down 17% because viewers grow weary of their being so clearly biased in favor of Mitt Romney, but dont look for them to see it that way. For the month, Fox News is down -17% in Total Viewers and down -27% in younger viewers for Total Day viewing vs. March 2011. The loss in Primetime is not as great: -9% in Total Viewers and -26% in younger viewers. Despite his millions, Romney has set a record in negative ratings: Mitt Romney trails Barack Obama by 19 points in basic popularity as the 2012 presidential contest inches closer to the main event, with a record 50 percent of Americans in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll now rating Romney unfavorably overall. Thirty-four percent hold a favorable opinion of Romney, the lowest for any leading presidential candidate in ABC/Post polls in primary seasons since 1984. His unfavorable score is higher than Obama ever has received; its been exceeded by just one other Republican candidate this year, Newt Gingrich, and by only one top candidate in 28 years, Hillary Clinton in 2008. Also, women love Rick Santorum. At least, conservative women do. This article at Politico about that can be highly misleading, though. [Emphasis mine.] But far from being scared off by Santorum, conservative women are zealously embracing him. The former Pennsylvania senator, who is ardently anti-abortion and against birth control, has won the female vote in a large handful of states in the Republican presidential contest so far, particularly in the South. He also has the highest favorability rating among women of any GOP contender. Rick Santorum is personally against birth control but he would not ban it. What the Left is so concerned about is that Rick Santorum thinks something about religion that they dont want him to think, and so they tell people that because he thinks it, it means he wants a law about it. This is anti-Catholicism in that it indicates falsehood about what it means to be a Catholic candidate for office and it seems to be done intentionally, to build misplaced resentment against Rick Santorum. The reason Rick Santorum wouldnt ban contraception is because he believes in E Pluribus Unum and also, I am guessing, that our faith requires that we not try to ram our beliefs down other peoples throats. We know that if we try that, we will only succeed in building resentment and that is not in accordance with our faith. Santorum frequently speaks about the American principle of E Pluribus Unum on the campaign trail, so reporters should know where he stands on how to heal polarization. America is a land of very diverse beliefs but we have to find agreement on basic principles as the Founders of America did. The reason he wouldnt ban contraception is because so many in America are not personally opposed to it and because so many actually use it. To try to ban it would go completely against what he is about regarding agreement on basic principles and silence in the law on those matters we cant find agreement on. So, for Politico to say he is against birth control without offering any kind of clarification as to what that means specifically is not really fair at all to Rick Santorum. In other news: HERE IS A MUST READ on the delegate math, according to the Santorum campaign. Newt has cut staff and, according to Stacy McCain, his campaign is unsustainable. Mitt Romney is still tone-deaf. Though Thomas Peters of Catholic Vote has clearly made a good case for Rick Santorum, Santorum isnt winning the Catholic vote writ large with Catholic meaning anyone who identifies as Catholic to a pollster. These would include Catholics who are not at all okay with a faithful Catholic running as president. Meanwhile, Mitt Romney has Mormon Romniacs according to the Washington Post: They are Mitt Romneys superfans. To be clear: These Romniacs are not Wall Street bigwigs or paid campaign operatives. Many of them, but not all, are Mormons like Romney. What unites them is a powerful and unusual excitement for a candidate who struggles to excite anybody else. Im not so sure. Ive seen a lot of bigwigs for Mitt Romney. This race is far from over. Donate to Rick Santorum today.
Your sentences don’t agree: “almost stopped” and then, “stopped.” Which is it?
And I wont vote from Romney ever. It goes against my principles.
I won’t either. I am just afraid that some are going to put pressure on people to vote for the jerk. I hope not but I am afraid that might be true. I won’t anyway though.....he is just way too liberal for me.
Sadly i find myself watching CNN headline morning news more these days rather than fox. At least i get some news stories and don’t have to watch Dick Morris explain how Romney is so wonderful for 20 min.
Looks to me like the RNC, yes, with Fox News fully in the bag, have been pretty successful in marginalizing or subverting the "conservative base".
They lost me when they got rid of judge napolitano.
Another, closely related reason is Fox’s highly biased coverage of the Martin-Zimmerman martter, especially Shepard Smith’s vile, absolutely unwarranted, baseless attack on George Zimmerman as a murderer, a view supported my Megan Kelly, albeit with a few less histrionics, when, if anything, the real crime was Martin attempting to murder Zimmerman by beating Zimmernan’s brains out on the concrete sidewalk.
I have regularly watched Fox news from it’s beginning. I have been a news junky.
However, I started to see them building a case for Romney. Then on what I call “Bloody Thursday”, when they, along with the rest of MSM went into a full out attack designed to take out Newt, I began to watch them even less.
I reached a point when I could stomach Fox at all.
This may sound silly, but about 4 weeks ago I began an experiment, I just shut the television off. For me, it was strange at first, but I have adjusted quite well... and I didn’t have to attend any 12 step meetings.
Fox news is dead to me. In my mind they have already gone broke and have been taken off the air.... I am completely done with them.
I read FR, I am posting less, I listen to some talk radio (not Rush) and tend to other interests and I love listening to music. I am actually learning to play an Harmonica.... I ordered two more keys last week. LOL
Surprisingly, I don’t miss any of that garbage and I actually feel more informed and less frustrated.
Rove and his GOP-e crowd can go straight to hell.
Lean left, loose viewers.
There are enough moderately lefty and heavy lefty news channels. We want hard core conservatism, and even the lefties want hard core conservatism so they can tune in and get agitated.
In foxes more conservative days, I had a lefty friend who was an old black lady. She loved to sit in front of Fox News and yell at the TV. It made her day.
Fox is screwing themselves by not going Full on Eligibility and dropping the “moderates” and lefties.
Not only that but their website sucks.
“I reached a point when I could stomach Fox at all.” = I reached a point when I COULDN’T stomach Fox at all.
Fox uses John Stossel and Sarah Palin as shills to draw us in so they can lead us to the George W. Bush-Mitt Romney type of Republican.
After the good interviews-commentators we see Karl Rove and company.
Fox News does stories that appeal to conservative viewers you won’t see on other networks, but then leads us to the GOP-E Kool Aid vat.
That's not fair! Newt loves women, lots of them.
Oops, I misread what you posted and got it turned around.
Hate to point this out but it is spring and the weather has even great ratings for all channels always go down when the weather gets nice....
Hate to point this out but it is spring and the weather has been great. Ratings for all channels always go down when the weather gets nice....
I used to watch FNC, but nowadays I find that more intellectual stimulation can be gained from Chumley on Pawn Stars than from trying to endure all the etchamitt drivel on FNC.
Im sort of glad to see that Sarah Palin will do the “Today” show this Tuesday.
Maybe she realizes that Fox has been using her to draw us in so they can cheerlead for the RINO Establishment.
Palin needs to think beyond Fox News.
I cringed and turned off the TV last week when Shep announced that Zimmerman “gunned down” Trayvon. Shep’s an idiot, and the phrase he used connotes something that probably is not accurate.
Didn’t read the whole thing, the single paragraph is just tooooo long. That said, the writer seems to be blaming it on the Romney bias, but I think it’s more than that. The sliding over to the left in general is the reason I watch it much less often than I once did. If they’d like to regain their audience, I suggest a return to “fair and balanced” IN PRACTICE, not just as a slogan.
My Fox viewing was, pretty much, limited to Hannity and Greta but when Hannity began featuring Willard, almost daily, I stopped watching; besides I got pretty tired of all of that fair and balanced bullsh*t!
It is said that FOX is partly owned by the Saudies.
How much, and how much influence do they exert on the network’s claim of fairness and balance?
“I used to watch FNC, but nowadays I find that more intellectual stimulation can be gained from Chumley on Pawn Stars than from trying to endure all the etchamitt drivel on FNC.”
LOL..Loves me some Pawn Stars.
Yeah, and I am positive that NBC is going to be upstanding regarding Palin. /sarc
Either they will change her or she will be treated poorly.
This will not end well albeit it is just one segment for the moment.
Yep. Their election coverage and breaking news far surpasses FOX.
More often than not, he just sounds whiny to me.
I missed that little attack because I won't watch Shep, and Meghan has been sliding in my opinion, too.
If any network should be calling for a finding of facts and calm until the law has a chance to work (again), you'd think the folks who claimed to be "Fair and Balanced" would be the one.
Summary condemnation of Zimmerman because he isn't black is neither 'fair' nor balanced'.
What happened to "Innocent until proven guilty"?
Moments like that show a network's true colors.
Still, no one has answered the question of "What was that guy doing cruising through what I have read is a gated community after dark, anyway?"
Yes, you are right about CNN—but you do have to keep a barf bag handy for the George Zimmerman coverage. Especially HLN, where they were calling it a “lynching by gun” the other day.
But aren’t you thrilled by Alan Colmes?
Now I know why paragraphs were invented.
So true! The only time I turn CNN on is for election coverage and breaking news - can't stomach them either the rest of the time. Listening to a bunch of pundits does nothing to "inform" me - who cares what a bunch of elitists think? It's just filler.
The irony is that these networks, radio shows, etc - need US more than we need THEM! If we don't watch, they don't make money. We have the power to bring them down, if we stop patronizing them.
They had Laurie on for that Virgin Blue Capt’n story. Still hot.
With Directv, they feedback channels watched and since FNC has turned into Mitt-TV, our TVs are on FNC a whole lot less.
It is amazing the length that Romney botts will go to in order to avoid the dreaded ZOT.
‘..There has been a left shift on Fox since Beck left...’
Agree. I’ve noticed many more lib ‘contributors’.....which I don’t appreciate. I can deal with reasonable people, i.e. Kirsten Powers but NOT Sally Kone (sp?)...ugh. It is very irritating when they all speak over each other....Bill Hemmer has a habit of doing this.....click, off goes the TV.
Want to list all those agencies that presented this story any other way? All of FOX still puts up the baby picture of Martin.
Be honest, were you not outraged by this travesty when you first heard the story? The only way you would know any different is to spend a lot of time on the internet. The truth has yet to be covered.
And yes someone should have told Santorum the truth, but they didn't so how was he supposed to respond? It would have been better to not respond without knowing the facts, but you know what the next line of questions would have been. He would look bad either way, but the better path would have been to reserve comment.
If your purpose here is to promote Romney then say so.
Sorry, for me, Newt is the best man for the job, and I’m with him until the end. Seems a lot of people who call themselves conservatives did less thinking, and more feeling; if they had listened to what Newt was saying, the choice would have been clear. Also, I’ve wondered all along if a lot of the people who support Santorum might be older ladies, who look at him and think, “Isn’t he a nice young man!” He just comes across with the wholesome choirboy persona. If women are choosing him for that reason, then they aren’t thinking, and here we are with the frontrunner we have.
As for Fox, I don’t want to hear Romney’s name mentioned every few minutes, so I really haven’t been watching, and I doubt I will in the future. I get my news from FR now.
LOL" What IS it with Greta Van Susteren? Does she really think people are interested in every proclamation out of the mouth of PossumNoggin?
Give him a break, after all he did wash dishes and hang sheetrock, just like the little people.
I quit watching Fox News 6 or 7 years ago when I realized they new longer actually told the news, but were a 23-hour per fay TV talk punditry channel.
Hey you idiots at Fox News, if you want me to watch again, start telling me Who, What, When and How and QUIT telling me WHY. I have my own opinions.
I don’t watch TV news, I get it all from the internet, but I will say, there is 20 times more news stories covered on my local TV affiliate in one hour, than 24 hours on Fox News.
Fire O’Reilly. Move Hannity and Greta to the Weekends. And start covering NEWS you jackholes.
Yeah, that’s what it is. Fox News channel is just a tabloid, and I don’t do tabloid. I want news facts and lots of them, then I want the anchor to STFU and not tell me how to interpret the facts.
Yep, the reason we got President Obama, Obamacare, Kagan and Sortamywhore are because conservatives couldn’t stand to hold their noses and vote for that idiot John McCain. Now because they won’t vote for that idiot Mitt Romney, they are going to risk a 2nd Obama term, and even he has said as much that once his “last elecion” is over, the gloves come completely off.
The nation can’t survive a 2nd Obama term, but some conservatives are going to do everything they can to help him win by throwing away their vote yet again.
With conservatives like that, who needs socialists?
I held my nose for McLame....and I still got Obama.
No way.......never again!
Not a dime’s worth of difference between Romney and Obama.
Well, let’s see - Beck is gone, Bob Beckel has a spot on “the five”, that fruitcake Schwepp is still on the air, O’Reilly is still a blathering statist fool, Geraldo still has a job - what’s not to like!
Why is Soros still alive?
Am 100% in agreement. Shepard Smith’s show is a mob media clone. Recent case in point was his coverage of the Zimmerman story, which mirrored the mob media in its rush to judgement and lack of restraint in the face of a dearth of facts.
For the most part, Bret Baier is the only FOX show I make an effort to catch. Occasionally, the week-day morning show gets it right. But FOX would be better off if they dropped Shep Smith and expanded Baier’s show to 2 hours.
Don’t forget Rino “dumb as a box o” Perino
I counted Romney’s name being mentionned six times in three minutes.
Baier may be fair but he’s a Dem...and I can’t get past that when I watch him.
He “looks” like a Republican. :-)
“I dont waste my time with FOX much these days.”
Me, too. I’m totally sick of the romneyfest being shoved down my throat from the “fair and balanced” station.
What alternative is there? Fox will go out of business. They have a conservative audience or they don’t.
Oh, I don’t doubt it. I actually heard one of them-—Martha McCallum, maybe-—use the term “Mitt-mentum.” It was either turn off the TV, or throw up.
