SANFORD, Fla. -- FBI agents on Monday were questioning potential witnesses in the Trayvon Martin shooting, confirming to NBC News that the agency had begun a "parallel investigation" that focuses on whether the teen's civil rights were violated.

Agents are seeking information on George Zimmerman's background and whether he was racially motivated when he pursued Martin after calling a 911 police dispatcher about his presence in the community, an FBI official told NBC.

The agents were at the Retreat at Twin Lakes, where Martin was shot dead by Zimmerman, the gated community's neighborhood watch captain.

RAce riots and Martial Law are now being paved.

I hope to be wrong with this but I'm afraid we are in for a long hot summer, now that media can incite at will and without fear of being liable for its actions...

-- Based upon what ? --

Facts not in evidence.

The death of an unarmed individual by someone carrying a gun is plenty of probably cause. If stand your ground applies, it more than likely applies for Treyvon. Furthermore, because Zimmerman followed Treyvon after being told not to puts him in a position that he will probably be unable to avail himself of standard self-defense OR stand your ground.

"I believe Zimmerman should be arrested and charged with manslaughter"

I have to ask; what evidence have you seen that suggests this is appropriate? To me, the 2 most solid bits of evidence to the contrary are:

1) Police dispatcher telling him (about following Martin) "We don't need you to do that" and Zimmerman responding "Ok", then stating he lost the guy. 2) an eyewitness stating he was physically present and witnessed Zimmerman being held down and beaten and Zimmerman yelling for help to which the witness replied he was going to go call e911.

We haven't seen the medical reports or a lot of other things just yet so I'm unwilling to make any assumptions about what we will see. Everything else is speculation... even the part about Zimmerman claiming Martin was trying to get hold of his gun and threatening to kill him... all unsubstantiated.

I believe that tape edit is actionable, in a court of law. Possibly criminal as well. Rush had to clear this show content with his attorney, no doubt.

As a former Prosecutor, I have gone on record (to the consternation of some here) that I believe Zimmerman should be arrested and charged with manslaughter,

Of some? LOL!

Also, I'm sure that since you were a prosecutor, you are the only one able to render a good opinion of what happened, and what should happen. Sarc/

The theory is “Victim could have been the president’s son, if the president had a son.”

So sick of this stuff, willing to get banned:

“What exactly does a half Kenyan/Half White and South Chicago Values Wookie Teenager look like”? Cha-Cha & Malaria don’t count, as i’m sure a full-body waxing/fang file-down was part of the deal for admission to Sidwell Friends.

If I saw one in its natural state, I’d promise it a vacation on the taxpayer dime, throw some beef jerky at it & hope Jack Links was filming a SuperBowl commercial.

Ban away...it was TOTALLY worth it.

not correct.

If he was going back to his car and had lost sight then he was attacked he get stand your ground protection.

Apparently there is no video or evidence fo the iced tea and skittles.

It also does not explain Martin hitting a back on the ground zimmerman.

So, you've seen who's finger print was on the trigger and where the gunshot residue went?

there is no reason for any arrest if martin attacked. This is why stand your ground give immunity from slap prosecutions that existed before the law. Prosecutors would prosecute ALL self defense in order to scare people from their self defense options.

Perhaps it is because the “victim” looked like the President’s son?

Thanks.

I had brain lock and had forgotten the expansion of the statute as a result of the Matthew Shepard case extending federal jurisdiction to drop the requirement that there be a specified activity involved.

I can't help but see a parallel to the extension of federal authority in Obamacare.

If Obamacare is upheld, there is virtually nothing the feds cannot compel or prohibit.

The same question must now be applied to the feds involvement the criminal law, is there now anything the federal government cannot investigate, police, and prosecute or at least contrive to have a law passed granting itself power to do so, which will not withstand constitutional scrutiny?

Combine Hussein’s hankering for a son with the Black Panthers’ bounty and Bubba Clinton coming out to say the “stand your ground” laws need to be rethought along with the FBI now being ordered (by whom?) to investigate. Smells to me like this is the very incident that Hussein was looking for as an excuse to make good on his new expanded executive powers.
