Obama takes a shot at Supreme Court over healthcare (Obama's trying to intimidate the SCOTUS)
reuters ^ | 4/2/2012 | Jeff Mason

Posted on 04/02/2012 2:41:10 PM PDT by tobyhill

President Barack Obama took an opening shot at conservative justices on the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday, warning that a rejection of his sweeping healthcare law would be an act of "judicial activism" that Republicans say they abhor.

Obama, a Democrat, had not commented publicly on the Supreme Court's deliberations since it heard arguments for and against the healthcare law last week.

Known as the "Affordable Care Act" or "Obamacare," the measure to expand health insurance for millions of Americans is considered Obama's signature domestic policy achievement.

A rejection by the court would be a big blow to Obama going into the November 6 presidential election.

Republican presidential candidates, who are vying to take on Obama in November elections, have promised to repeal the law if one of them wins the White House.

Obama's advisers say they have not prepared contingency plans if the measure fails. But the president -- who expressed confidence that the court would uphold the law -- made clear how he would address it on the campaign trail if the court strikes down the law.

Low class behavior. This guy was a constitutional law professor or some tripe that I read. It's seems like becoming an entomologist because ‘I like to kill bugs’. He gets a pass on every action. The worst part.

He must have gotten leaked info from his ass kisser Kagen that the Mandate is going to be declared Unconstitutional. If Big Ears thought the ruling would be upheld he wouldn’t already be trashing the Supreme Court

When you note the ‘strength’ of his commentary...he obviously got the results of the Friday straw poll taken at the Supreme Court and knows how the results will go this summer with the final opinion rendered. He’s discouraged about this and fairly angry. Based on this commentary, I’d say that the individual mandate has been voted down, and the entire law declared null and void...five to four. So everything they wasted an entire year upon and he had to make various promises to Democratic Senators to get the final deal done....is totally wasted. You can grasp his hostility and how he has to form up his entire September and October election speech topic list.

The comical side of this is that he’ll start every speech in Sep/Oct....with the anger directed toward the Supreme Court....but obviously can’t do nothing to fix his health act. It’s now dead, and he can’t get any majority in the House to re-start it. Toss in a fifty-fifty split in the Senate for next year, and even if he wins...there’s nothing much for him to accomplish for the remaining four years. Legacy-wise, it’s a blank chalkboard except for winning the Nobel Prize.

I suspect he’s heard from his operatives, Kagen and Sotomayor, that deliberations didn’t go well and Kennedy has sided with the constitutionalists.

Why else would he risk negatively affecting the outcome?

You’ll know the answer if they really gin up the heat on Kennedy. Justices may change their minds up until the decision is announced in June.

My guess is that Kagan has leaked the info to Obama that the Individual Mandate is going to be ruled unconstitutional and she has informed him that she will try to change Kennedy's mind or at least get a positive ruling on separability.

Huh? That was their preliminary vote before they write their summary briefs. No doubt Kagan gave BO the bad news of what the vote was - which is why he's coming out trying to sway their ultimate decision. I'm just praying his insulting tactic will backfire, as Cheney would say, BIG TIME!

Yes, they can switch positions, though fairly uncommon. However, if there’s a case that could sway a justice due to history and politics, it’s this case. Justices have their own legacies to consider and Kennedy may not want the distinction of being the guy that brought down the landmark achievement of America’s first ethnic president.

My opinion is that it’s more historic to have protected the Constitution and shored up other areas of constitutional law that have eroded over the generations.

A rebuff by this court could put other congressional and judicial overreach into play.

This guy was a constitutional law professor

Mark Simone on radio the other day brought this up. Obama majored in constitutional law, taught constitutional law. So it's the ONE area he has any expertise or experience. And his biggest legislative accomplishment is under fire for being unconstititional.

His point being that if Obama has screwed up the one thing he supposedly actually knows anything about, imagine what a screwup he is on other topics.

Well, the Narcissist in Chief sure has a funny way of persuading the 'thumbs down' Justices to see things his way. As usual, he's arrogantly offended them with his thuggish comments, and probably didn't even notice.

Watch him act all surprised when the whole thing goes down in flames.

Yet more proof of the thumb on the scale. He learned about the USC the same way you watch game tapes of your opponent. You can’t defeat it if you don’t at least know what you are trying to destroy.

But for understanding the MEANING? His days at the church of racist wright were his learning grounds.

I find Mark Simone to be an excellent commentator on subjects with which he's well versed, but in some cases, he's less well-informed than your average Democrat sheeple. This is one of them.

Obama was never a "professor", and is not an "expert" on Constitutional Law. It's not an area that he has any expertise in. There have literally been reams of data posted on this website that utterly refute that claim.

It's nothing more than an overblown liberal propagandist's exaggeration of his college and university track, meant to burnish his woefully thin credentials, and has no basis in fact.

You and I know more about the US Constitution than Obama ever has, or ever will.

Thanks for taking responsibility for your error, but P.O.E. also made the same mistake by echoing Mark Simone's echo of the liberal propagandists.

It's important that we counter all such false data wherever we find it. The crap self-perpetuates, even on our side. We simply shouldn't allow that.

You may recall Obama dissing the Supreme Court Justices before Congress and the American public in his annual State of the Union speech a couple of years ago. He doesn't have many admirers among those that sit on the US Supreme Court. This will only add insult to injury ... the Supremes are going to give it back to him in spades.
