This case has dragged on now over a month now and so few FACTS have been able to replace the myths circulated in the press.
Huge fact #1 is that Zimmerman only volunteered the info that Trayvon was black AFTER being asked the question by the dispatcher.
Huge fact #2 is that Zimmerman's wounds were treated at the scene by paramedics BEFORE coming to the police station.
Huge fact #3 Trayvon did not look like that 12 year old boy being circulated everywhere. That "boy" picture was 5 years old! I have a more current photo that I'm told was scrubbed from his FB and the web
Huge fact #4 Trayvon had become a disciplinary problem and was getting into trouble regularly, even burglary, so Zimmerman's assumption of him being up to "no good" was likely accurate.

Huge fact #5 is that Zimmerman clearly had very severe injuries to his head, not to mention a broken nose. Thus, his claim of being attacked before shooting was HIGHLY CREDIBLE. The police were completely justified in not arresting him on the spot.

This initial decision never precluded their later arresting him if disconfirmatory evidence came forward regarding his account. But the lion’s share of eyewitness testimony, the 911 calls and common sense nearly all support his story rather than challenge its accuracy.

There are some whoppers.

100 pound weight advantage to Zimmerman.

2 shots fired, with Trayvon begging for mercy after the first shot, and going silent after the 2nd one.

Completely skipping Zimmerman's account.

Zimmerman chased down Martin (in some versions, with his gun drawn).

The dispatcher told Zimmerman not to leave his vehicle.

Zimmerman made 46 calls to 911 in one year.
